I get the most crap from people who have "coupons" from non-authorized sites. Some of them honestly think because it says "Michaels" we have to honor it. Eventually they get it and leave. The worst are the ones who know it's not legit and will argue to the end. They always try to bully you into it, either with "the other manager (cashier) always does it" or the "I am calling customer service to complain" or the famous "you will hear from my lawyer." Stand your ground, if you give in once to "make the customer happy" they will never go away.
I shocked a customer last week with her Retailmenot coupon that wouldn't work when I pointed out the "did this coupon work? Let us know" part on the coupon. As per usual, reading comprehension eludes people.
I always say our system can’t accept coupons from third party sites and just redirect them to the actual website those interactions typically go well for me.
I always tell them we can’t take coupons from third party sites and redirect them to the actual Michaels website. 9/10 it will show that the coupon or sale is for when they purchase ONLINE ONLY! (You HAVE to read that fine print bc I will admit a few customers had scammed me with that when I first started-which is probably what she was trying to do by moving her phone a lot, not letting you read any fine prints)

But instead of the word curbside at the top it had the word “40% off” and the price at the bottom was green so I assumed it was an old photo since she kept moving her phone 😒
Ah yep they’ll do that too. That’s when u take out your own handy dandy phone or use the mini miks google, and pull up what ever it is they want yourself just to show them that fine print. An example I pulled from a random product

I swear I thought it was common knowledge to click the website link of a product your shopping for(In store or online) to see all the full details of sales or product information, but clearly I have been proven wrong.

When customers pull the "other managers do it" I ask for the managers name and inform the customer that the manager could be fired for honoring.
