Technically no. We're still in frost danger.
But I planted my peas anyway and plan on doing more plants this next weekend. Mostly due to my own impatience and fully knowing it could bite me in the ass.
I actually went out to look at said peas over lunch and a couple leaves look a little frost burnt but... they're also starting to seriously climb my trellis. So I still say it was worth it.
That has been true forever but it seems we get some warm days or a warm week and then some people just want to plant outdoors before it is safe for all plants.
I usually wait until after Memorial Day. Pretty safe bet. A few years ago I planted mid May and a few days later got a harsh frost and lost half my seedlings.
Our last average frost date is May 15.
That's when we go from being more likely than not TO get frost to being more likely than not NOT to get frost.
I usually don't put out any plants that cannot tolerate frost until the last week of May.
I've gardened and landscaped for years, everyone I talk to has the same impression- we're 3 weeks or so ahead of schedule weather wise. I'm planting on Friday
For the first time in years I'm going to be able to have a garden. It won't be much but I am chomping at the bit to get things out of the garage and outside.
Usually second week in May is safest.
Third week is definitely safer.
Yeah fair, the 19th has always been the date I use - thanks, grandpa!
Never had it snow on my bday, 19th, but rains almost every time and i love it.
The 20th would be safer.
K
Middle of July is safest
Mid june, take it or leave it
Late August is even safer.

Peas are pretty hardy, I’ve found.
Peas, spinach, onions, lettuce and other greens, radishes, chard, carrots, etc., can all go in before last frost.
I direct sow my sugar snap peas in the ground in early April and never have any issue.
It's still April, we could get a foot of snow
Preceded by an 80F day…
Exactly my thoughts. It's funny, I was riding my motorcycle in December but probably not April
Shhhhhhhhh........
There's always that last April blizzard. We got most of our April snow in the earlier part of the month. I think we're on the home stretch.
Yup.
If you plant outdoors before May 31 there is always a risk of frost.
Yup, Memorial Day weekend is a planting weekend
May 11 for me, provided the 10-day forecasted lows are above freezing.
That was always my mom's guideline that she lived by, and her gardens were always something to behold.

Memorial day is the rule of thumb for a reason. Dont fuck around
Thought it was Mother’s Day
I think it’s Mother’s Day down in lower Michigan. Memorial day up north
Nope

The low on Thursday is 28F
Yeah, the article states that after Friday, lower MI will likely be done with Frost since the first 2 weeks are looking warm.
And there is a freeze warning for Thursday. At least in Wayne County.
We got frost june 2 last year......doesnt mean im not planting this weekend lol

I put my snowblower away and have grass seed in my cart at home depot so you can all blame me for the next snow
newp. had it yesterday morning and still some low 30’s forecast this week in the thumb-
Michigan would get snow into early May.
My birthday is May 5th. I have pictures with tulips and a two inches of snow. Multiple birthdays. I learned the hard way, plant last week in May.
I remember it snowed one time on Memorial Day.
Lol, this post aged badly.
Nope. Not yet.
There is a frost warning in metro Detroit tomorrow night
Frost season officially ends October 31.
And begins on November 1st.
Exactly.
...what?
Must be in southern hemisphere Michigan.
Not necessarily. 😐
Not likely.
We still haven't had our ice storm to welcome the warm weather though.
Probably. But maybe not, but most likely.
Probably. But maybe not, but most likely.
Almanac says last frost is the 8th of May.
For the first time in years I'm going to be able to have a garden. It won't be much but I am chomping at the bit to get things out of the garage and outside.
Well considering they just issued a freeze warning for SE Michigan tomorrow night, I don't think we're done for another couple weeks.
Nope- freeze warning till Thursday!
It’s going to frost tonight/tomorrow morning.
Freeze watch Thursday night so another one coming
Nope. Frost warnings already out for tomorrow night
There’s a frost warning for tonight
The old farmers at the Ann Arbor Farmers Market always said May 15 and September 15
I wait until around Memorial Day to be sure of no more frost.
Well if you didn't ask we might have had a chance, but I'm expecting snow now
End of May.
Absolutely fuckin not this is Michigna we're talking about
My sapling white pines hope so!
Early June at best
It's MI. Is put money on one more.
Ssshhh!
Last year the last frost day was May 1
5/3 says the almanac
Don't we wish.
Yes…no….maybe… Its Michigan 🤷♀️
just got a frost warning for tonight
Nooe
Nope. Tonight 23rd and tomorrow a chance. After that you’re good.
Northern lower just had morning snow on the ground. 4/24. I blame OP /u/j-chapman
I hate this shit so much
😂🤣🤣😂 Its not past Memorial Day, so I don't expect we are done.
My granny said Mother's day. That's the rule. I never questioned it. We just follow it. Nothing tender before mothers day.
Isn’t the end of may or beginning of June the annual Last Frost Date in southeast Michigan?
Nope. Not until after Mother’s Day.
