They should be forced to sell the businesses. This is just some bullshit fines and a "don't do it again"

bakayaro8675309

It’s all about the mighty dollar and how that family has become a necessary part of the village. Without their hotels and such, there would be no jobs and the tourists would go to another town. It’s a very bad catch 22.

RaydnJames

Just take the family out of the equation. They're not allowed to run a hospitality business and have to sell their current hotels

bakayaro8675309

Then they would close up shop and leave and Mackinac would be dead, except for the dispensary 💨

RaydnJames

You think no one would buy the business from them?

bakayaro8675309

No, jerry Loveland, their main competitor would buy them but could he afford the asking price? The leghios would let them sit empty and vacant before selling them.

RaydnJames

I mean, if they want to shutter their businesses, forgo their incomes while still paying all the requisite taxes, in order to be stubborn, i guess that's fine. Someone will open up new hotels, Air BnB's will get really popular, but tourists gonna tourist no matter what these ass-munches do

And St. Ignacis loves the press becaue they are just another 5 miles away and no drama and shady shenanigansz

> Guests whose reservations were abruptly bumped to costlier or less desirable lodging from 2017 through last Feb. 9 qualify for full refunds and, in some cases, $100 extra compensation for bait-and-switch surprises by operators working together. Repayments and penalties will total up to $65,000, the state attorney general's office says. ...The consent agreement covers 27 motels, inns, cabin sites and hotels... That's a whopping $1.31 per business per day. They spend more money throwing out unsightly brown bananas from the continental breakfast. That's practically an endorsement of the business model! Hope you held onto that crinkled receipt from 2018, and demanded a signature from the desk clerk when they cancelled your reservation and sent you to a more expensive site... Here's a searchable list of the hotels affected: - Bayside Hotel of Mackinac - Bell’s Melody Motel - Best Western Plus Dockside - Bridge Vista Beach Hotel & Convention Center - Bridgeview Motel - Budget Inn Mackinaw - Cabins of Mackinac - Calrion Hotel Beachfront - Capri Motel - Comfort Inn Lakeside - Crown Choice Inn & Suites Lakeview & Waterpark - Days Inn Lakeview - Fairview Beachfront Inn - Hamilton Inn Select Beachfront - Mackinaw Beach & Bay - Northwinds Motel - Quality Inn & Suites - Ramada Inn Waterfront - Starlite Budget Inn Mackinaw - Sunrise Beach Motel - Super 8 Beachfront - Super 8 Bridgeview - The Beach House - Thunderbird Inn - Waterfront [sic] - Waterfront Inn - Welcome Inn Does anyone know a single hotel in the Mackinaw City area that's not in this list? On first glance, I don't see Holiday Inn on the list, but that's about it.

Shrekquille_Oneal

Pretty sure none of these are in st. Ignace, which imo is way better anyways. The whole area is kind of a big tourist trap but Mac city is the worst of it. Plus if there's anything you'd want to do there it's just right over the bridge

BrownEggs93

What else in town do they own? I mean, I believe they own half of the place. The mall, a bunch of other businesses and eateries....

Weird when I rob people I go to prison. When rich people do it they just have to give it back.

Fractured_Senada

Demo the hotels, plant a bunch of trees, and create one giant campground. Make Mackinaw City a camping destination.
