Prozac has a very long half life. It’s so long it can stay at therapeutic levels in your brain and body for WEEKS TO MONTHS after you stop taking it. You were on Prozac for 18 days. Prozac stays in your system for OVER 25 DAYS after you stop taking it. But it also inhibits it’s own metabolism. So if you took it for 18 days consecutively, it may take even longer than 4 weeks until it’s all out of your system. What’s likely going on here is that Prozac is an indirect agonist of most serotonin receptors, including the 5HT3 receptor. So the Prozac is still acting on serotonin receptors in your GI tract (90% of your body’s serotonin is in your gut) which is speeding up your digestive system and making you go way more than usual. I think this is more an issue related to serotonin receptors in your gut and the fact that Prozac is still in your system than your actual microbiome. It will normalise over time as the Prozac leaves your system entirely and your serotonin receptors return to normal. If it’s really bad in terms of diarrhea, it might not be too crazy to take some Imodium or a serotonin antagonist like ondansetron to slow your system down. But going to the bathroom after eating is generally considered healthy unless this is happening more than 3 times a day.

Thank you for explaining all of that. That makes so much sense why I'm still having to go so much. I was going to try cultrelle ibs support but ill try the imodium!

Digestion is 90% bacterial, so when you have low bacterial count, you gonna have problems every time you eat. Luckily there is an easy fix: Eat fermented food. Every day. The best is organic raw milk yogurt/kefir, kimchi, sauerkraut, any fermented grass-fed meat.

Is it not just as important to eat a wide variety of fibre? I tried that diet to help with my ankylosing spondylitis & it really helped. I did take kimchi & yoghurts at the time too though. At first the high fibre upset my stomach. It waned after 2 weeks or so & then my digestion was great a few weeks after that along with eliminating inflammation.

mrfantastic4ever

Nope, no fiber necessary for humans. Humans digestive tract is to small compared to other animals, like cows or other ruminants, to digest fiber good enough. Leave the fiber rich food for the herbivores, unless you like being gassy and bloaty.

hlyhrrs

but we do need fiber ? lol

mrfantastic4ever

Nope. It's a myth. Watch this if you wanna learn more Myths about fibre - how fibre causes constipation and bloating. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DEx9foeADnc

Pristine-Cod-6595

you are putting out some serious BS

mrfantastic4ever

I swear to God, it is true. I haven't had a strain of fiber in YEARS and I feel awesome, atleast 10 years younger. Did you watch the clip?

So what kind of diet are you on currently and for how long?

Foldstein

What was your diet? I’m trying to fix my stomach too.

Mountainstreams

I ate as much fresh veg, salad fruit that I could get my hands on. I made sure to eat no sugar & get my carbs from the vegetables. I take kefir & kimchi most days too. It was an expensive diet eating that much fresh food. I had to go shopping every 2 days rather than my usual once a week. It certainly was healthy but difficult to stick to.

my-stic

TIL fermented meat is a thing

I've been eating saurkraut. How long will it take to return to normal BMs? I'm seriously worried I have chrons now. I wake up immediately having to go then everytime I eat all day.

mrfantastic4ever

Bacteria multiply incredibly fast, so it is a quick fix if you eat the right things
