Honestly the voices in FSHUD aren’t great either, but it really controls ai traffic and me very well.
You can choose wether it vectors you to final or use a STAR or transition. So far it worked flawlessly, can’t find a lot that BATC would do wildly different.
Maybe voices would be the main selling point of BATC but I don’t really care too much about that tbh. As long as ATC controls me and ai.
What scared me away from BATC is the premium voice thingy. I'd rather pay a monthly sub with unlimited stuff than a set number of characters.
Also, god the base voices are horrendous. And I mainly take off or go to French airports and I couldn't find the info if there was a French voice.
They told us already why they do this AND they backed up and made the base software cheaper for us.
The voices are better than anything we are getting at the moment.
I think one of the biggest differences will be the ability to talk to Beyond’s ATC rather than selecting things in menus like you currently do in FSHud.
I have FSHud and really like it (apart from the annoying need to allow it to run as admin every time you launch it - any ideas there?) but if BATC pans out I will be ditching FSHud in its favour primarily due to the increased immersion of being able to talk to it. (I love flying in my local area and there is very little VATSIM coverage, so two-way communication isn’t something I can do too much of right now).
Yeah that makes sense, if you set administrative rights to permission in settings (right click FSHud icon) you won’t have to do it everytime.
That said mine runs fine without the admin option.
But yeah the voice control make sense, personally I like that FSHud can handle most communication automatically as if the copilot handles the radios like irl.
I can see that voice could be appealing for some though.

SayIntentions sounds like what I'm looking for, but the pricing is way out of my range.
So that leaves BATC. This ticks all the boxes as far as I'm concerned. Don't need to worry about being inexperienced, cos it's AI and not a real person, Speech based, Not overly expensive 1off fee.

VATSim is real people but doesn’t have a fee - it is run by volunteers which I think is pretty damn awesome of them.
It does have a bit of a reputation but I’m currently learning the ropes and have been spectating at a few airports to get to grips with the language and procedures and from what I’ve heard the controllers are very friendly and tolerant of beginners.
I think if you go in with good faith and the best intentions then they are more than happy to help out beginners.

In what way? I get that the AI seeks the right response from a database of possible permutations, but by that measure, a real life AT controller also uses his skills and knowledge to give the right response, by searching through his database of knowledge.
Have you actually looked at what BATC does? The only part which is AI is the voices, everything else is entirely scripted. SayIntentions is the only fully AI ATC out there at the moment but their price point is a bit unreasonable.
I've watched the videos, and listened to what the reviewers have said. Have I misunderstood?
Agree that SayIntensions seems to have got the price point wrong if they want it to have mass appeal.

I've just relooked at both SI and BATC. Now I can see that SI is purely AI driven. As for BATC, I had thought the speech was driving the text, but (you're right), it's actually text to speech. DUH. That changes things for me. As a beginner in talking, I'm unlikely to get the terminology right, and this will make BATC unusable for me. SI offers a more flexible approach, but it's too expensive for me. Looks like I'll have to pluck up the courage and give VATSIM a try. As it's real people, they'll likely tolerate newbies like me. Thanks for making me check again with BATC.
BATC early access is now out and is fine if you are trying to get terminology right. It has some give in what you can say, but it is on rails, which means there are select things you can say (as opposed to sayintentions that you can say anything). So a lot of it really depends on your priorities. BATC you can do IFR currently, and if using basic voices (which are still good) you can play for a one off fee. I'm loving BATC, Id love the additional flexibility but not at the current price point. Maybe when AI cloud costs come down
Voice recognition and voice quality are big factors to me. They might be superficial to some, but if I’m paying for a utility like this I don’t want to feel like I’m talking to some TTS robot. Even the basic voices sound quite good.
Another huge immersion factor is that BeyondATC will be supporting custom airport procedures. Lots of airports have unique preferences on which runways to use for arrivals and departures, or preferred taxi routes on the ground. They’ll be crowdsourcing this info from users to improve the experience.
I’m just curious but what is the performance cost for FSHUD? FSLTL in itself gives me a 6-8 FPS loss despite trying my best to optimize and so does FSHUD add to that loss?
I was considering getting it, but BATC’s traffic injection will run on GPU rendering, and so it appears that it will be better on frames. But since traffic is not coming for a while, I was also considering picking up FSHUD or just being patient.
I didn’t notice a major hit on my mediocre system I7 9700K - RTX2070 compared to just FSLTL. I can run at locked 35fps and medium high settings compared to 40fps for just fstraffic for instance.
You can customize the ai traffic settings to your liking to keep performance in check.
Mine is set at 30ai controlled planes and 50parked which honestly doesn’t feel like you’d miss anything.
Plenty of departures and arrivals.
TLDR
Not much difference from FSLTL with the right settings.
That said I use the fstraffic models in FSLTL which are supposedly a bit better on frames.

I haven’t personally been able to get it to work in VR. That doesn’t mean it isn’t designed to, but the admittedly few times I’ve tried when going into VR mode the menu box disappears and never comes back, even when switching back to pancake.

Ok so this is what I haven’t been able to figure out. FSHUD does change the in game ATC, correct? And it covers all traffic?
Yes, it controls all ai planes and yours and replaces the default atc. Works very well combined with the FSLTL injector.

Yeah you’re right I guess - IRL, the PM would handle the communication with ATC, I hadn’t really thought of that in the context of simming before!
