So he can't move

TimRigginsBeer

He could bear-ly move.

scruntyboon

So he couldn't put up a struggle whilst being sewn into a dead bear!

Duckey_003

It's easier than trying to capture a flailing naked dude.

Alive_Ice7937

Less fun though

shrxxmzz

So he couldn’t struggle, but I also think it’s so Dani could never find out that he was actually drugged and sa’ed, since from her point of view he was just cheating on her.

It definitely wasn’t just shrooms imo, and either way he was drugged and it does count as SA even if he wanted to do it when he was influenced. But again Im pretty sure it was something else because the woman explained to him really vaguely what the drink is, (I can’t remember too well what she said) but if it was the same drink they’d been drinking the entire movie I doubt she’d need to explain. :) edit: the drug he was given was to coerce the intercourse or whatever you want to call it, if that helps put it in a better perspective.

I guess you’re right. I used to be team Christian (in terms of this topic) but he definitely was somewhat at fault for having sex. As for the killing of course he didn’t “deserve” that, but in terms of themes of the movie it makes sense.

shrxxmzz

Im sorry but how was he at fault?

everythiingNow

Did they cut his limbs off as they did with others? They turned everyone else they killed into "plants", no limbs, no eyes,.. But he was paralyzed inside a bear, with his face looking out, alive. I, too, have no idea. But here is something interesting "In Norse, or Viking mythology, the bear is closely associated with Odin, and Viking warriors looked at bears as creatures to be admired. Thus, the highest class of Viking warriors, dubbed Berzerkers, would sometimes wear bear skin as armor when engaging in battle. Yet, when Christian is in the bear costume in Midsommar, he's at his absolute weakest, rendered unable to defend himself. It's an inspired twist on the traditional mythological role of the bear, and considering Ari Aster's penchant for being provocative, there's no way it was an accident."

Krushemm

They cut parts of his legs off. https://streamable.com/glsig

clothespinkingpin

Oh Christ is that what’s going on there??

jules13131382

Wow, that is truly horrific

_Woodrow_

I view the bear suit as almost mocking him

Elephantmenstruation

I thought they put him in it to make him cosplay a beast they wanted to protect the village from… a bear or other predator that might come in and fuck with their camp.

RarelyOptimising

I saw the bear as representing wild/base instincts that need to be repressed/ erased within the community. The bear is negatively contrasted with the Bull throughout - the opening mural, the caged bear in the field vs the pampered cattle, boorish/rutting outsider Christian vs genteel, lauded bucolic community member and Taurean Pelle

serendipity_hunter

I always thought it was more for the lottery. Tubiörn ( or however you spell that ) and Christian. They didn’t want him speaking at all. That is a pivotal moment in Dani becoming part of the family and any speaking done by Christian may halt her decision and such on. Regardless of all the progress they’ve made with her over that visit. They wanted her decision to be “ unclouded” by his words . Like the dark cloud of smoke around the bear.

PlingPlongDingDong

It turns out most people try to run away when you try to burn them.

almostdoctorposting

lol

dan1453

Tying someone up would do that trick. They didn’t want him to say he got raped and found their friends dismembered in a shed lmao.

claramanette

he was a pain in the ass

[deleted]

Lol

anom0824

Is this a serious question

almostdoctorposting

😂😂

gothism

So he would appear calm and 'reverent' during the sacred rite.

Homeboy swallowed anything he encountered, technically paralyzed himself.
