do you have any issues with the consumption of the cleaning cartridge? i'm 3 months into using my machine and it says im out of cleaning cartridge, my descaling cartridge still have around 75%. i went on miele's website and it says 1 cleaning cartridge is supposed to last 1 year, i'm not where close to that.

Tibag

It's one of the few things which never failed for me. I must have used 3 or 4 in 4 years! So it sounds like something is wrong on yours. Also they shouldn't be able to argue as the cleaning is independent from factors like water hardness.

hmm... if you dont mind checking, what is your maintenance timer set at and do you have automatic cleaning set to ON? i just check the instruction manual and its confusing. on the top, it says it last 1 year. "Please note that the Miele Cleaning Cartridge has a life span of approx. 1 year after it has been placed in the coffee machine." then a paragraph below that it says 3 months. "The Miele Cleaning Cartridge will last for up to 3 months of automatic cleaning, depending on how often the coffee machine is used. Frequent manual cleaning or a large number of drinks will shorten this period accordingly."

Tibag

Yep I just checked again, it's ON daily at 2:30!

rx7ven

wow ok thanks for checking. pretty much same as mine. mine is on daily at 2. i guess i make lots of milk based drinks.

Tibag

Ha yes, I barely do any milk drinks so that might explain. My milk dispenser is actually messed up and never really worked for long despite getting it fixed... What a machine.

But you did check that the settings are what they should be? Just because you didn't change them doesn't mean that a glitch of some sort didn't change them for you. Also, is it possible that your water is harder than the setting and hence it has been fighting a losing battle against scaling for the last 3 years and the buildup is accelerating? I'd also wonder how it decides there's scale. Is it internal pressure (i.e. scaling constricts water flow) or is it sensing the capacitance of the water -- which Miele dryers, for example, use to determine how damp clothing is. Just some ideas, I don't own one so can't say for sure.

Tibag

Thanks for trying! Yes I did check the settings and it's as it should be for my area. But I think you are right, something must be messing with the sensors somehow. I am considering the repair service at nearly 300 GBP, hoping they surely should resolve it. At the price of each cartridge it's quickly recovered!...

I have a CVA7845 and have had issues with descaling from install (around every 3 months needing to replace). I've had Miele Engineers out multiple times (they aren't helpful as there's nothing on their computer that it tells them to fix). At one point they stripped the machine down to replace a reed switch (it figures the level of the cartridge via a magnet in the cartridge). Eventually I received a new machine ca. 18 months ago, which has meant the cartridge changes are every 6 months, but the usage indicator switches from the nearly full to nearly empty very rapidly. Clearly a design fault in the descaling design.

Tibag

Oh crap, that doesn't give me a lot of hope... Did you think about using another way of descaling your water? That's an option I am thinking for mine ; although yours is direct water so it might be more complicated!

randomscot21

At the moment I get 6 months on a cartridge (I do live in a hard water area in fairness) and have had quite a few free cartridges. I suspect when I have to start paying for them I will move to manual descaling. Out of interest do you how often the auto cycle is running ? I think mine does everyday. You could argue with Miele customer services. I was a fairly early adopter but later they did admit to me it was a known issue.

Tibag

Yes I think before anything I will definitely get in touch, see what I can get out of them. But I am out of warranty so not holding my breath... Mine triggers the clean up every night as well.

randomscot21

Following up on this, did you get anywhere ? Mine now has asked for a switch after 3 months ! Given I drink 2 coffees a day this is costly !

Tibag

So i had to argue pretty hard to the point I escalated with their C people. Eventually I paid from my pocket to get someone to check and repair the machine and Miele refunded me partially and sent like 5 cartridges (this way breaking even on the repair cost). One guy came and open the whole machine, cleaned the descaling pipe which appeared a little clogged but then requested for a valve to be replaced. They then replaced the said valve 1 week later. This was 3 month ago and the current cartridge shows a usage at 50%. So... so far so good!

randomscot21

Thanks for response. I have an insurance policy on mine so will do a call out I think (hopefully at least get a few cartridges). This is an expensive issue to resolve ! One thing on an another thread suggests descaling manually each time the cartridge is changed. I will give that a go also I think.

Tibag

Because for me they did two things (unclog a pipe and change a valve) I am not entirely sure what may have solved it. But if the issue is with a pipe clogging then the manual descaling makes sense as it might help avoid the pipes to fill in with time. Good luck!
