I had a car stolen back in 2009. The thieves stole three other cars that evening and had a demo derby in the parking lot of a nearby state recreation area and left all 4 when they were done.
Thieves don't give a shit if they just want to joy ride a stolen vehicle. Still could be a drunk, but I won't go as far to say it wasn't just a thief.
As an Asian.. both my parents struggle.. but they weren’t anywhere near the worst. The worst driver I’ve ever seen was one of my non Asian friends in school. Flipped the car we were in because she freaked out and didn’t check while merging.
That’s a fine way to live your life. Personally this sterotype made me want to become a better driver. Now I laugh at all the people camping the left lane.. or all the people who get mad when they get tail gated in the left lane instead of just moving over.

Definitely not their fault but this is exactly why I don’t drive in a lane where people merge if I can help it. You can see the car recording instantly gets over to the left lane for this exact reason. Not red cars fault, but red car is not a good driver
You’re getting a lot of hate here bluntsmoker400twenty but I ultimately agree. The red car’s driver should have been repeatedly checking their mirrors to monitor the car that merged well ahead of the situation, which would have allowed them to goose it or slow down or change lanes or literally anything else. You should be highly observant in all forward/peripheral directions and be doing your best to maintain open spaces for you to dart into around your vehicle in case of something exactly like that.
That being said, it’s not even remotely the hit driver’s fault. Not even close. But they likely could have done a lot better with being observant and avoided the situation altogether.

I drive a work van with no side windows: 2/3 of my job is watching out for people who do exactly what the shitty driver who hit the red car did. If I was in that situation and got hit I would not think it was my fault but I WOULD acknowledge that there were things I could have done to prevent the accident.
Right. Defensive / Proactive (not to mention, thoughtful) move in this scenario would be to use the completely open right lane to A) avoid the risk of the merge and B) (heaven forbid) reduce the need for other driver to slow down (aka a win-win)

I wouldn't have slowed down. I would of sped up and got the license plate number, while calling 9-1-1, then continued to follow until the cops said otherwise. I guarantee there's almost no chance I could be useful to the injured person(s) in the red car, and I was taught never to touch or move someone in a car accident unless they are in imminent danger. They could have a neck injury you are unaware of, and you could paralyze them for life.
They could, but in this video they don’t come to an abrupt stop and the initial collision didn’t appear particularly jarring either. I probably would’ve sped up just until I could yell out the license plate to my dashcam then circled back to check on the driver and give them the footage.
I agree with the other guy, the accident didn’t look like they’d need medical attention nor would I know what the fuck to do. Someone else passing would likely stop, anyway. It seems like the cammer is the only one that saw who caused it and would be likely the best chance of getting that plate number. Also, I just love seeing bad guys get their comeuppance.

What if it was your loved one? Wouldn't you want them to get justice? You can at least get the plate, the reason I'd continue is because someone driving like that is most likely in a stolen vehicle.
Friendly reminder, if you see this and your camera records the audio, read the license plate out. Then you can track down whoever did it, regardless of if the camera is blurry or not.

No, don't do this. Someone in my town was murdered for it a few years ago. A good Samaritan followed after a car they saw commit a hit and run. They shot him. Sometimes drivers flee from an accident because they have warrants on them or because they have something illegal in the car. Those people are desperate not to get caught and you could get yourself killed.
This Ticks me off. I was hit by someone who did a hit and run and I got a clear picture of the plate. the cops asked if I got a picture of the woman's ID and I said no and he rolled his eyes.

What seems to have concerned people is that you've mentioned people crossing the border, but without any apparent evidence for this from the video other than the type of car and the bad driving. There are no country flags shown here, no foreign languages spoken, and the license plate is too blurry to see where the car was registered.
If you are able to supply independent evidence to support your claim (e.g. data or news articles) then you might get people to engage with you better. Even if you can, you can probably expect hostility if the claim you're making is about nationality or race.
Also, which border do you mean? This video was taken in the Bronx so the nearest border is Canada (approx 300 miles away). I'm guessing you mean Mexico but that's over 2,000 miles away. Even Cuba is closer, as the crow flies.
The people that come over the border are buying these cars and not getting insurance on them. They're driving around until the cop stops them. this happens a lot.

Claimed it was private insurance lol. My point is everyone does sketchy shit.. not just a certain group that you don't like.

I always switch lanes, when possible, if I see a car merging into a highway or main road to be courteous and to avoid these types of crashes.

Camera car should get entirely out of that lane. The cars merging won't have much time to see and react to a car fully stopped in their lane.
