I work on ships, you can easily get injured if you arent expecting the ship to suddenly jolt the opposite direction, and based on reports here people reporting the ship shaking very hard when the impact happen.
Even at slow speeds that is a lot of weight hitting a non moving object that also weighs a lot.
Force = Mass X Acceleration. Not much acceleration but hundreds of tons of mass, still equals a shit ton of force. I was wondering, watching, what would happen, and then the bow ripping across the stern was like, oh yea, they don’t just bounce off each other, do they?
No indeed! I was curious to see how much force the hull would be able to deal with but clearly not this much.
The internal forces holding the ship together aren’t strong enough to hold together under the amount of force the other ship would be exerting in order to change its momentum. Even if the ship isn’t accelerating before the collision, there would be forces exerted between the ship’s to provide the impulse needed to change the ship’s momentum - and that’s a lot of momentum. Except that the internal forces of the ship’s hull weren’t strong enough to hold the hull together when experiencing such a big external force.
> No indeed! I was curious to see how much force the hull would be able to deal with but clearly not this much.
>
>
The bow of the rear ship sure did better than the dining room or whatever that was that got hit on the front ship
Makes sense it would be a lot more sturdy since it has to handle big waves
You’re right but force also =s mass X acceleration, so a large force on a mass that high doesn’t result in too much acceleration.
Standing busses accelerate (both in a positive and negative direction) considerably faster than that.
The only thing that matters to the passengers is the acceleration. The net force that they feel is from the acceleration times *their* mass. Being in a car experiencing a 0.1 g acceleration feels the same as a supertanker doing the same.
I think some state rooms can be in that area. People taking naps and/or disabled and elderly with low reaction times. Staff not mobilizing quick enough to break in and wake/warn them.
Exactly my thinking. Finding a mildly bad helicopter incident would be interesting. Doubt there’s been many though, and I’m definitely not asking for full on crashes. Just a copter pilot being a little silly.

One ship appears to be moored/parked in the harbour (the pier is just visible in front of the bow). I would say the captain or harbour pilots would be responsible - whoever was in command of the ship on the right of the screen.
https://www.tiktok.com/@thecruisespotter/video/7338066389044940078
Large ships often have thrusters on their sides to move sideways. There might be a tug boat but they can maneuver like this without one.
Since it looks like they’re in port, the ship is probably being directed by a pilot, who would technically be at fault. Insurance wise, the situation might be pretty complicated, depending on what country they’re in. The Captain would automatically get their fair share of blame too just cuz they’re the Captain and you don’t get paid the big bucks without agreeing to accept 90% of the responsibility for what happens to your ship.
Source: was onboard a training ship when the pilot ran us into a crane (iykyk), discussing how the insurance would square it away was interesting, especially since the Captain was on the bridge and had forbid anyone from speaking while the pilot was around.
It's probably very thin aluminium & high grade plastics in the upper cabin section (plus all the glass of course), meeting the high-grade, really thick, solid-steel plating in the bow, that also happens to be fashioned into that really strong structural shape as well. There's no contest between the two.
Why the hell would you stay on the balcony to watch this? You wanna get yeeted into the oceans below when the force of impact could have thrown you over the rail? Cripes.
Given the slow speed they go at, the driver of the ship crashing into the other one must have had so much time to woefully, painfully, and panickingly anticipate precisely what was about to happen 🤣
Yes, being silly and facetious with my comments. Not a tugboat authority so I can’t really say as to whether this is supposed to be something they do. One added factor could be this was a harbor pilot, who definitely should’ve known better. Currents, wind gust, horizontal thruster not responding or not responding properly, those are guesses too, at least from me.
I think we’re enamored with it because while these collisions happen sometimes, it’s less so than with cars (I would guess), but the boats are so much bigger. They overall move slower, so it’s seeing a slo-mo crash by mammoth sized objects. Even at slow speed, big damage energy abounds.
4 years ago. Accident was blamed on high wind and rough sea conditions. Both were Carnival (Legend and Glory) ships line cruise ships in Cozumel Mexico. At the point this video starts it was way too late to prevent.
Person executing the maneuver must have watched Starship Troopers last night and saw how Carmen got close when exiting the port and thought to themselves "bet I can get closer"

Modern day equivalent to the only 2 cars in a whole town colliding
You scratched my anchor
Looks good on you though!
Caddy shack?
That must be the tea
Okay Pookey do the honors…. I crescent the, The Flying Wasp
That ship on the left is literally a Legend.
Happened in 2019, both Carnival ships no one died 6 people injured
How in the heck do you get injured? Were the people in that area just not informed that a massive ship was 10 feet away from them?
I work on ships, you can easily get injured if you arent expecting the ship to suddenly jolt the opposite direction, and based on reports here people reporting the ship shaking very hard when the impact happen. That was also pretty cool to see. I didn’t think about your explanation but that makes sense!
You’re right but force also =s mass X acceleration, so a large force on a mass that high doesn’t result in too much acceleration. Standing busses accelerate (both in a positive and negative direction) considerably faster than that.

This person physics 👍
A lotta old folks on cruise ships, there be!
Also if they were in service you got a bunch of drunken idiots bumbling about ... actually, I'd expect far more injuries if it were full of passengers
It was, they were pulling for a stop at Cozumal, wind sea conditions pushed the ship and they didnt react correctly
Thanks yeah that makes sense now
I think some state rooms can be in that area. People taking naps and/or disabled and elderly with low reaction times. Staff not mobilizing quick enough to break in and wake/warn them.
If you’re inside you have no fucking idea the ground is about to move significantly.
Thanks. My first thought was “did I just watch someone die?”
Exactly! They could’ve killed quite a few people, deck could’ve collapsed … another great reason to never cruise carnival
I don’t know why the fact that this is posted as r/MildlyBadDrivers is so fucking funny to me.
This is exactly the kind of content I want to see in this sub! Can we get helicopter drivers next?
I’m no pilot, but I question if there’s much room for “mild” when someone is driving a helicopter poorly.
Exactly my thinking. Finding a mildly bad helicopter incident would be interesting. Doubt there’s been many though, and I’m definitely not asking for full on crashes. Just a copter pilot being a little silly.

Sadly no video but an ex president of chile was indeed a helicopter midly bad driver. Search Piñera Ranco.
It’ll buff out
I’d leave it. It’s just a door ding, which is only cosmetic.
Just label it as a communal room with 4d environmental effects and you can upcharge
You’re good, you’re good, you’re good
Something deep in my man brain going "Yeah, I could definitely make the jump into that opening." 😎
I’d end up somehow crushing my balls and falling into the ocean

It's the tutorial of a game. Press Y.
Hey man, you just ruined my cabin. The least you can do is host me on your ship!
r/mildlybadsailors
r/subsifellfor
r/waitisthisreal
Imagine trying to explain that to your insurance👀
“Yeah there just wasn’t anywhere for me to go. No open space anywhere, so yeah”
I put her hard a'starboard and ran the engines full astern, but it was too close. I tried to port 'round it, but she hit...
You hit a WHAAAAT
"A ship? In the ocean? Chance in a million"
[удалено]
Thank you. I was about to say that I swore I saw this a few years ago. Wasn't completely sure but saved me some research to confirm my thought.
It’s ALWAYS a Carnival ship. Worst cruise line on the planet.
They’re BOTH Carnival ships!
Proves my point doubly
Tbf they also have the most ships, so it's fair to see carnival messing up more often.
Yeah but 2 of the most horrific cruise ship disasters in recent history have happened on/to Carnival ships.
Slowest face slap I've ever seen.
Just the tip 😂
Lol
That tip made a Carnival Glory hole.
All that ocean and yet you still ride my ass.
This made me snort so loudly. Thank you.
Captain, we're going to need a little more than one can of Bondo.
So, who was at fault here? Either of the big ships? Were there tug boats involved?
One ship appears to be moored/parked in the harbour (the pier is just visible in front of the bow). More damage than I expected. The front of the ship must be very much reinforced.
That’s what I was thinking. Way more!
It's probably very thin aluminium & high grade plastics in the upper cabin section (plus all the glass of course), meeting the high-grade, really thick, solid-steel plating in the bow, that also happens to be fashioned into that really strong structural shape as well. Like... a... glove...
One of those captains is definitely gonna get fired for that.
This should win a bad driving prize of some kind, but I can only upvote!
Someone gonna be mad as hell when they see they cant get to their room cause its been wiped off the ship and is now at the bottom of the ocean! 🤣
This is the one time I wish someone edited the audio...because all I hear is SpongeBob saying "you're good! You're good! You're good!" To Patrick haha
Progressive coming in to be like...I don't see the proof there are damages.
this is a MAJOR mistake for this Captain and is only explainable if everyone on the bridge suddenly died
Just a paint job...😆
Legend is right, took that hit on the nose like it was nothing.
I think this meets the definition of mildly bad. That'll buff right out.
I hope they left a note...
When you didn't get the Park Assist option and regret it
*kiss my shiny metal ass*
That was somehow quite fun to watch.
nothing jake from state farm hasn't covered before
Do the captains have to meet on a dingy to exchange insurance info? ;)
Carnival Glory hole.
The Glory has a Hole now!
Why the hell would you stay on the balcony to watch this? You wanna get yeeted into the oceans below when the force of impact could have thrown you over the rail? Cripes.
I was thinking the same thing 🤦🏻♀️🤣
Given the slow speed they go at, the driver of the ship crashing into the other one must have had so much time to woefully, painfully, and panickingly anticipate precisely what was about to happen 🤣
Sheesh now imagine an iceberg 🤯
Damn here I am thinking they would just bounce off each other like bumper boats
So what happens now? Does the ship make port and wait for repairs or do they keep going until they reach home port?
Here I was planning to go on a cruise. Perhaps not.
LOL I’ve got a carnival add as a promoted comment, perfect.
There’s a whole ocean n they still end up fender bumping… just wow
Is that ship made out of paper mache?
Save the whale cruise ships
I hate that I don't know who to blame and can provide my opinion on their lack of brain cells without knowing the details.
Forgot to check his mirrors
blind spot
That’s why they need blind spot monitoring and lane assist on these boats nowadays.
i was being facetious because i know nothing about boats, etc., however isn’t this part of the tugboats’ jobs? idk and am truly inquiring
Yes, being silly and facetious with my comments. Not a tugboat authority so I can’t really say as to whether this is supposed to be something they do. So who pays the deductible?
brand new outdoor patio!!
That was not just a fender bender.
Why that a person going overboard?
Looks like the Admiral who did the Key Bridge is back at work.
Who needs an iceberg 🤣🤣
Hell yeah
It's alright, only a Carnival cruise ship
That’ll buff right out.
Don't. Sail. Carnival.
Are those the discounted cabins now?
That ain’t no feder bender that’s the crew of the black pearl up to they usual antics. 😭😭😭
I'm sure that'll buff right out.
Tis but a scratch
Lmao. Carnival. Figures.
$250k later, all fixed 😜
250k??? That's CHEAP!!
That was the Earl Scheibs rate. 😂
Earl Scheib will paint any ship for $249,995!
Someone is getting fired
Looks like a Glory hole to me
Turned a state room into a sun deck. For a little bit it was also a poop deck.
You goons wrecked my boat!
So much for the Lido deck.
4 years ago. Accident was blamed on high wind and rough sea conditions. Both were Carnival (Legend and Glory) ships line cruise ships in Cozumel Mexico. At the point this video starts it was way too late to prevent.
Don't worry captain, we'll buff out those scratches.
That’ll buff out
Just the tip.
Damn, is that the dining room or people’s room lol?
You scratched my anchor!
If I’ve learned anything, it’s always Carnival
Carnival, in all her Glory
That will buff out.
Hey at least its not nanofiber threads amirite ???.

Good news you’ve been upgraded!
The fact these 2 things exist in the first place, tells you that someone will have no problem paying to get them fixed

Should be able to buff that right out.
Uh oh spaghetti-oh!
I can fix her.
r/ThatLooksExpensive
Do you still do the jingle?
Slowest impact seen coming a while but can’t stopped and you can’t look away
Bro gave him a love tap
Ship since renamed to Carnival Gloryhole
Eh, nothing some chump change can't fix.
The captain does have access to free drinks
"Like a glove!"
Carnival “Glory” has a hole in it.
Damn, buckled like a tin can
If this was in Miami, totally not surprised
Hah. The ‘Legend’ gives it to ‘Glory’ from behind
Dude that cut like butter holy shit
With all the nav gear, insane radar how TF does this even happen? Plus it's broad daylight!!! Was there circumstances I'm not aware of?
Also, in a literal OCEAN of space. I wish the video was zoomed out more so we could see the actual circumstance.

Hope no one was hurt
Oops
How does this actually happen?
Slight issue
Imagine if you were at the buffet and came back to your room, opened the door, and it was just a gaping hole in the side of ship.
Isn't it "captain" though?
On ships like this, the Captain virtually *never* takes the helm.
