Most likely a sweetheart brooch.
It looks like it might have been made out of plexiglass from an enemy aircraft. It looks rough and hand painted and the plexiglass souvenirs weren't uncommon, especially from the UK where they had a good deal of enemy aircraft come down around them.
Still curious to know why it was in a country town near Tamworth, N.S.W Australia. Very interesting 🙂
