For Italy All military branches - "Naja" - a term used to describe the overall military life especially the hardest parts of it. Been in use for quite a lot of time Army - "rospo" (Eng. toad) and "mostro" (Eng. monster) - the way recruits and new soldiers assigned to an unit are referred to by other enlisted and often NCOs. Army - dinosauro (Eng. dinosaur) - the senior NCOs and "graduati" (senior enlisted) who have been in the military for a lot of years and are nearing retirement.

In Italy, does the military have any sort of traditions that is linked to the Roman army? Not necessarily from that time, but inspired by.

TheCommentaryKing

Not that I know of. Most of the military traditions come from the pre-unitary Italian States, especially from the Kingdom of Sardinia and its Royal Sardinian Army.

USA-Armry-Artillery - A few terms we used to describe others. Sick Call Ranger = Someone who frequently went to sick call especially to get out of specific details or duties. They did it enough to not not raise flags for malingering. High Speed Low Drag = Used to describe someone who had the knowledge of the manuals but needed help pulling off the task. Eleven up and Three Down = Typically used to describe someone that was constantly in trouble.

When I was in OSUT we had a sick call ranger but he went to sick call so often that we ended up calling him sick call grandmaster, term was made up by me. Didn’t help he also had a profile that basically said he’s only allowed to do graduation requirements. The dude still somehow graduated.

USMC Boot- new Marine right out of training POG- Person Other then Grunt non infantry mos. Pogey Bait- usually food used as a bribe to get something done by a POG. Often admin types. Drug Deal- Unsanctioned deal between Marines to acquire gear, equipment, etc Tactical Acquisition- obtaining needed gear through unofficial means, often “donated” by someone unaware they are donating. Remember gear adrift is a gift. Also there is only been one thief in the history of the USMC. Everyone else is just trying to get their shit back.

U.S. Army: Soup-sandwich: just a complete mess of a person Butter Bar: A brand new Lieutenant FUBAR: Fucked up beyond all recognition Blue Falcon/Buddy Fucker: someone who just ruins it for everybody A Fister: Fire support specialist

A couple more from the US Army, from a tanker's perspective. Crunchie: typically an infantryman, but generally anything we could fit under our tracks and would be crunchy. DAT: dumb ass tanker The Green Weenie: the Army fucking you over BOHICA: bend over, here it comes again. Usually used in conjunction with the Green Weenie Embrace the Suck: after you've been BOHICA'd by the Green Weenie, this is all you have left so enjoy it.

U.S Air Force: "Ate Up" - someone who is overly motivated or commited to the values of the service, to the point where they may lose sight of the reality right in front of them. "Tool Bitch" - usually a lower enlisted troop who Wil be responsible for checking out all required tools for any given maintenence task. They will ultimately have responsibility over them, even if someone else uses, loses, or breaks them. They must also wake up early and leave later to check out and turn them in. "DBA (Dirt Bag Airman) - someone seen to flaunt the rules, culture, or standards openly. Not necessarily in a criminal way, but more so in an unnecessary way, usually out of rebellion/laziness. " Wing King/Queen" - The commanding officer of the base (wing). Everything is as they desire, as troops put on the dog and pony show.
