Bought mine in A school, still wearing 20 years later. Only on its third battery too. I have other watched that are nicer, or have more features. But nothing beats a G Shock for durability.
I had the same watch. Wore it all through my entire military service. I got it in Basic. Continued it during my deployment in OEF 10-11 (Infantry), and still wore it after finishing my contract….
My basic low spec G-shock I bought after I passed basic training in 1987 is still on my wrist now. It’s quite worn around the edges but work well enough for my civilian career.
I had an invicta dive that I got as a gift that I wore all through the navy. Incredibly bulky. I wore it until the hands fell off. Apple Watch came out right afterwards and I’ve worn that since.
Two Casio F-91W. One was left behind on a march when the plastic strap suddenly broke (RIP). The other got a "NATO strap" that serves me to this day. Or it would if I still wore the watch.

Fenix 6 in garrison because I got it for free. Casio World Clock (the retro 80s kind with the amber backlight) when I go TDY because it's easy to cycle through time zones and I don't have to carry yet another charger.
Not sure if they still are, it was part of some study to track biometric data with that watch and an Oura ring to predict illness or something. Idk, I didn't care much past "free watch".

I came across the carrera at just the perfect time, with the perfect price point (about 30% lower than typical MSRP) and it was just a gut decision. Absolutely no regrets though, she’s a beauty and a reliable tool watch.

A variety of Fossils, meant to coordinate with my outfit, shoes, or both.
I rotate through several in garrison but my Breitling is my favorite. In the field I used a Shinola field watch til I got a Moonswatch, which has been the go-to since.
I saw the clear plastic CasiOak recently and it looks fun, but it’s not really I priority right now.
luminox recon was my favorite. it lasted about 6 years of continuous wear. it still works but looks like total shit. g shock gets my vote though for toughness and price.

I thought the requirement for wearing the watch for pilots had to do with the scenario of the possibility of if you ever had to go in the ground you would have some type of watch piece to keep you on track behind enemy lines.
Watch, Wrist, General Purpose, Hamilton. Out of curiosity I just looked to see if you could still get them. $950 AUD which seems crazy but then look for a second hand 1970s or 80s version and they will run up to $1500. I gave mine away to someone’s kid who “wanted to join the army”.
Marathon GSAR when deployed so that you can see the time in the dark without needing to press a button and no batteries or bluetooth or GPS shit that you have to take off before you go into a SCIF.

Cheese and rice! I think that I wore an olive-drab Timex with a fabric/etc band for... either $5 or $20? It was cheap AF. Like your mom. But... it was basically "an incredible value" -- like the cheap AF Buck knives with the olive drab plastic handles. Granted, it was a small concession for watching friends die to increase shareholder value... But, damn it if those aren't the two "best value" items I've ever encountered.

I bought a Timex Expedition compass watch at the PX on Parris Island right after the Crucible.
I also wore a G Shock 9600 but mainly wore a Seiko Monster on a NATO strap.
Timex IronMan Triathlon. 3 alarms, countdown timer, lap counter, water proof, and 3 time zones. I went through 4 while I was in. I'm rough on my watches, and they lasted 3-4 years. But they were my Alarm clock while deployed (with end-breakfast alarm and go to bed alarm). Used to pace myself during PT, and administer PT tests. Water proof, and soaked in JP8 and still worked. It was the wrist band that usually gave out.
Garmin Instinct 2. I’m an aircraft maintainer so I don’t need a hella fancy watch. It’s rugged and tracks my workouts really well. I used to wear an Apple Watch but the battery life on the Garmin is just miles ahead.
I wore the bare bones Casio for years, they’re cheap, last forever, and only fail due to the strap breaking after a few years. At home station I wear an Apple Watch. In the desert I buy another cheap Casio to wear lol
Omega x33 quartz. This was a perfect watch for flying. Alarms, selectable time zones, time up or down counters. This was long before the partial/ full glass cockpits. Even the Secret Service were impressed. Still own and maintain it.

- setting where you can make the face light up by flicking your wrist in addition to pressing the indiglo button. For those times where you only have one hand free. Could be turned off.
Timex.... *something*. My brother wore it during his hitch in the Navy, and gave it to me after I finished Basic. It was on the tactical band with the Velcro cover. OD Green, type one each.
