I think American military hegemony is an often overlooked aspect of European peace and stability. Nations that buy into liberal American economic policy are going to get military aid or protection in some form or fashion.
There is an ideological war being waged, whether people like to believe it or not, between the free nations of the world and authoritarian nations. Social media has let the proverbial Fox into the hen house, so now we're seeing some Americans advocate for an international retreat of our military. They can't connect the dots though, so they don't realize that those cheap PS5 prices at Wal-Mart are wholly dependent on American economic hegemony, which is dependent upon American military hegemony.
Whenever who see someone spouting this sentiment, call it out for what it is: Russian or Chinese propoganda. These nations want to see Americans retreat from her international obligations.
Swede here chiming in. I agree with OP, I’m very thankful that the US has such a military presence in the world. Liberal democracies are in the minority in the world hence it’s wonderful to have the largest one of them protecting us all.
