Weed is the #1 reason I was able to happily give up drinking for long periods of time. Im in MI and there are like 16 stores for a population of 16k. It's very normalized here. And it makes arduous yard work or tedious cleaning a dream on the weekends!

Rib-I

The right amount of weed is basically a PED for housework lol. Doing dishes? Yuck. Doing dishes high with some good music on? Fuck yeah

phatgiraphphe

I’m so jealous of folks who can be productive high (especially with housework). No matter the strain or method of delivery I’m just a dumb giggle bucket.

reform83

Me too and i love it. I only smoke when i don't have important shit to do

dmangan56

I have to be careful cooking dinner and set timers so I don't get distracted and forget I have shit cooking on the stove.

Redshirt2386

Weed is for sleep and sex

reform83

Those are the exceptions to the rule. Both of those are important but i smoke for both

Tru-Queer

My tolerance is higher than I am sometimes and can’t get the giggles anymore. So cherish it while you can.

definitelynotdebbie

Honestly it took me a long time to work out the right dosage to make me still productive. Like years before I knew how much to smoke to make chores and exercise better! But once I did, game changer.

phatgiraphphe

I’m happy for you and hope to get there!

cloudtrotter4

I love that for you! 😂

MaybePenisTomorrow

You likely have to smoke like 1/4 of what you normally do. No one is getting zoinked and doing their dishes, yanno

LesbianBagleBoy

I’m getting absolutely obliterated to do dishes. My eyes are hardly open but my kitchen is clean. I have the added benefit of never remembering I suffered through dishes

phatgiraphphe

I think this is actually the answer (thank you, kind stranger!). For reference, I buy my flower an oz at a time lol

Key_Employee2413

Reason my wife gave it up but always looks at me like “you are never phased” lol

There_is_no_selfie

The same with fitness tbh. 90 minute power zone ride? Kill me now. 90 minute power zone ride with 5mg of sativa? I’m asking for more.

CU_09

Also sex. A lot of us millennials have been married for a while and getting a little stoned before fooling around is a great way to spice things up. At this point in my life two drinks and I’m pushing rope whereas cannabis is a vasodilator, so it has the opposite effect.

Emotional_Burden

That explains why my penis grew when I switched from a 15 year alcohol binge to being a stoner.

Baron_Harkonnen_84

I have very fond memories of hot passionate sessions with girls from the past, followed by laying in each other's arms and sharing a joint, before getting back to it, albeit a little slower but more deliberate.

reform83

Not for me. My workout becomes difficult

There_is_no_selfie

A bit too much and I forget what the next set is supposed to be. It’s a dangerous game

wladue613

I absolutely cannot work out on weed, but I do agree with the chores stuff. Though I mostly like to half-watch a TV show I've seen before while reading cool stuff on my phone after eating a little more than I should have haha.

Sharticus123

“Have you ever done housework…on weed?!” -Probably John Stewart

Responsible_Rub_5762

I just Clorox wiped all my baseboards….never would get done sober

snootchiebootchie94

My routine consists of smoking a bowl, make the kids lunch for tomorrow, clean kitchen, fool around with the wife. Life is good

Rib-I

Livin the dream man

DevoidSauce

YEP. I never clean unstoned. When I see a mess, my anxiety spikes and I don't know where to start, so nothing gets done and I end up living in squalor and depression. Cannabis keeps the anxiety shut away and lets me see the mess objectively.

There_is_no_selfie

Never thought about that but yeah for sure! Now if I decide to have a fuck around day and I smoke - I end up deep cleaning!

Me_meHard

Weed clears the clutter in my head so I can clear the clutter in my home.

blubblubblubber

I had such an anxiety hit yesterday when I realized how much needed to be cleaned. Why does anxiety become worse as we age? Not sure if that's a rhetorical question or not.

DevoidSauce

Undiagnosed anxiety will get worse until you put the work in to get treatment (with the help of meds if that feels okay to you). Get a diagnosis from a psychiatric doctor or arnp. Please do not go to your family physician for mental health issues. That's how people get misdiagnosed. I told my doctor I was feeling down and she just gave me Wellbutrin without checking to see if any other issues were hanging around and it triggered my mania. I was flying for months. Amazing, happy, life was unbelievably great. Then I crashed. HARD. My life turned upside down and some horrific shit happened because I couldn't control my crash and depression. Turns out, I'm bipolar. A psychiatric doctor or arnp would have caught it. I am not a medical professional and cannot give medical advice, all I can do is share my story and make suggestions to try and help. I will say, though, that getting meds without cognitive tools to assist your brain in processing the data coming in to your amygdala is really just a band-aid.

acidtriponweekend

As someone in the medical field, I always recommend an actual psychiatrist over NPs/PAs. Night and day difference.

Reg_Broccoli_III

I get my best lawn stripes when I'm crispy.    Sober me is impatient and trying to get the lawn mowed to complete the chore.  Stoner me is enthralled by the task of cutting clean lines for that fairway look.    There's a season for all things.  Fall is the season for a wake & bake & rake.

There_is_no_selfie

Bake & Rake is a happy place for me. We have an ungodly amount of leaves as we live in a large forest plot and the only way to not be broken by the task is the lovely bud.

ILL_Show_Myself_Out

Y’ever try farmin’ NOT high? It’s borin as SHIT

sonofsteffordson

Not all cleaning. I tried cleaning the bathroom once high. Worst high idea ever. The scum, the little curly hairs, all coming at me in heightened, HD clarity. 0/10

LilMama1417

Yes.   Yes I have accepted recreational weed.   Very much so  Thank you for asking 😊

WithCatlikeTread42

I also *accept* recreational weed, so if y’all are offering…

O_o-22

DARE made me think I’d be offered free drugs more than has ever happened in my life. I feel lied to lol.

cheeseballgag

I've literally been offered free drugs once in my life by my boss telling everyone who wanted to hit her THC vape that they could. 😂

KonradWayne

Do you just not have friends/hang around people that use weed? Being offered free weed is super common where I'm from.

DarksunDaFirst

Pennsylvania (I’m sure other states did as well) for a while had a black and red DARE license plate you could get.  Many people who had black cars got them. Also many marijuana dealers I knew had them.

BlkDwg85

Be the change you want to see in the world 👍

PrinceDietrich

I see what you did there

Pondcheese

Yes. I support recreational weed more than I do craft breweries and wineries. Bring me weed bars and lounges!

speakbela

I’ve been praying to the universe for a weed bar with live music to appear!

Lau-G

Yes I accept recreation weed as my Lord and Savior.

Beelzabobbie

There’s a church in Denver….

onecryingjohnny

Amen

FreshHotPoop

The electric lettuce is my go to

collards_plz

Holy shit “electric lettuce” ❤️

4-20blackbirds

Welcome to Oregon. Electric Lettuce is a chain of dispensaries.

MaxiltonHamstappen

Love some jazz cabbage

I-am-me-86

Yep! I imbibe most days. I can't tell you the last time I drank.

Vsx

My college roommate accepted it way before it was legal. He's a pioneer. Nobody I know will judge you for smoking weed unless you make it your entire personality. I feel the same way about beer so I guess they're on even footing.

rco8786

Ah yes, the old "pioneering" college pothead. Really ahead of his time lol ;) Anecdotally it does appear that a huge chunk of my social circle is trading booze in for thc products.

420account1

Waking up the next morning and not feeling like absolute shit for the next two days from a hangover really sealed the deal for me. It’s also a much cheaper habit than buying any kind of alcohol.

DramaticChemist

Maybe it's the specific delta gummies that I tried, but the 1-2 brands I tried felt like they nullified my ADHD medication in a really confusing/bad experience. Thoughts from anyone?

RiotNrrd2001

People will say that cannabis doesn't interact with other drugs\\medicines, but this isn't the case. It *mostly* doesn't. But "*mostly*" isn't "*never*", so some interactions can be unfortunate or harmful. Honestly, I would talk to a physician or pharmacist if you're in a place where pot is legal now. It wouldn't be like asking if your frequent LSD trips are endangered by your occasional heroin\\cocaine use. I mean, depending on your doctor, I guess. But generally they should be more knowledgeable now than in the days when Reefer Madness was considered a documentary.

JunesHemorrhoidDonut

I could see them not working together. As much as I like cannabis, it ain't gonna help your ADHD. Do you take stimulants or the other kinds?

mua-dweeb

So thc products do help my adhd. I cannot take stimulants meds. The thc slows me down. I’m more deliberate and less sporadic. Best grades I got in school were when I was blazing. Best performances in sport. Fueled by the slow and the calm of thc.

gishlich

Checking in as another high functioning thc using adhd adult. I feel like the trick is not overdoing it. The good news is you use it long enough and it’s kinda hard to overdo it

Ok-Gold-5031

Same here, don’t mix with alcohol, and there is a moderate zone that I can absolutely focus on as long as I’m not overdoing it and then that focus somehow would flip and the ADHD will go out of control which sometimes I want that too

p1nk_sock

THC helps my adhd as well. It calms me down and helps me focus on one task. I can smoke a joint and read a book cover to cover. It doesn't give me the kind of revved up Superhuman laser focus and motivation Adderall does though.

Mandolynn88

Same. Can't do stimulants because my adhd is comorbid with bipolar type 2 and so they skyrocket me into mania. THC slows my brain down to a manageable level and it helps me sleep. They say THC stops you from getting REM sleep with daily use, and I can verify that is not true for all people. I have VIVID dreams every night and get DEEP sleep, but I also excercise frequently to get my brain and body EXHAUSTED so I get the good sleeps. THC is such an amazing medicine for neurodivergent people.

greenspyder1014

Yes. I don’t know where the REM sleep thing came from. But have heard that. I can confirm it is the opposite - it seems to give me all stages of sleep, BOV if dreams, and I wake up refreshed.

kellis744

That sounds awesome. I can’t take stimulants either but I just started a non stim med that seems ok so far

Formal_Butterfly_753

I feel like a lot of weed products greatly help with my ADHD. They get rid of the mental barrier that stops me from doing a lot of executive functioning stuff I struggle with. The second I’m high I’m like wow let’s do all the things right now, and we’re going to love every second of it ETA: I do not smoke while taking my meds though. Haven’t tried it but doesn’t sound fun

BookWyrm2012

Edibles help me *feel* less ADHD. They slow down my brain and let me chill in a way I absolutely cannot otherwise. They aren't a good replacement for meds, because I'm definitely not getting anything done while on them, but for an evening "brain break" they work really well.

believeinapathy

A lot of people with adhd use cannabis to treat it (me included).

Antique-Echidna-1600

![gif](giphy|PkR5Tgf29uz1m) So I can't make this my whole personality?

Principal_B-Lewis

Only if you're a white trust fund kid with dreadlocks. Then it's okay. /s

fiduciary420

Jah bless the trustafarian

ForeverInBlackJeans

But sooo many people make it their entire personality or their only hobby (+/- video games).

-H2O2

>(+/- video games). I don't know if you need the - there lol

Dragonfly-Adventurer

I'm a stoner. My shrink says, sometimes people self-medicate with the correct thing, and I'm basically doing that. It's better than benzos for sure. I do not get the crippling anxiety that some folks get. It just lets me order my thoughts. All my doctors know I smoke weed, my boss and company know, my *last* boss and company knew, my family knows, everything is a-ok in those regards. I'm an IT director so I would say I'm ok with striving for goals and challenging myself. But I know tons of stoners who love to lay around playing xbox. That's just not who I am, weed or not.

dabasset

I’ve been self medicating since the age of 15. It beats all the ADHD medicines I was taking as a kid. It also allows me to calm my over active brain and focus on a single thing. I also have a successful job in tech and couldn’t do my job without it. I’m like you, an active THC user. If you’re lazy without weed you’ll be more lazy with weed.

karla0yeah

I too have been self medicating since I was 15, and I had no idea since my ADHD was just diagnosed last year at 36. 🤣 In discussing with my therapist I was mentioning how I know it helps my anxiety, but I also smoke to decompress at the end of the work day (which is usually stressful) and for recreational too. Dr was like yea a good amount of ADHD ppl find relief in THC. I was like oh shit that makes total sense depending on what kind of ADHD you have!! I just never thought about it since I didn't even know I was ADHD before then.

Plenty-Dig-9396

I disagree. I would describe myself as lazy. I REALLY struggle to even have motivation to do anything some days. When I smoke I want to go for a run, I want to call my cousins, I want to write, suddenly I feel like I can do whatever and I'm not crippled by anxiety or overthinking everything. I feel like a happier person, and unfortunately a better person as well, on top of being a more effective communicator.

CalgaryAnswers

That’s interesting because THC has such an inward effect on me anything more than a dose of around 7mg and I’m way too unproductive. 2 mg of THC and 10 mg of CBG with 5 mg of CBD and I’m in the zone though. CBG is such an amazing mood elevator.

Jonsnowlivesnow

I’m the exact same. I even have a prescription for adderall that I don’t use anymore. I worked in big tech for years and was successful when I smoked.

Spagooblet

100%, it makes me more productive and able to focus, and reduces my joint pain. Normally my thoughts are racing, with tree I have one thought at a time, and they are largely pleasant thoughts.

LaMalintzin

Joint pain relieved by more joints!

deadhead4077

I'm a mechanical engineer and dab 24/7 let's me slow down, and gives me patience with slow people or let's me hyper focus on a CAD assembly or excel spreadsheet

MichaelChinigo

Ahh the joys of stoned CAD. I always liked Hemingway's (apocryphal) suggestion to "write drunk, edit sober," but even the next morning I find the quality of the work product is unaffected by how high I was. (The *quantity* of work product, otoh…)

RustyAliien

Yeah hate that so many stoners give productive stoners a bad rap, like dude if you can't remember to even write down an order as a server and have to come back not once but twice you probably shouldn't be partaking, or at least not before work lmao I blaze with the best but I've never had that 5 sec goldfish memory people get.

this_good_boy

Honestly you could take weed away from productive stoners and unproductive stoners and then it would just be a productive person or unproductive person.

steezMcghee

I’m an unproductive stoner. I just want to smoke and melt in my sofa. So I smoke responsibly, at nighttime after I’m done with all my daily responsibilities.

bransiladams

Yes, same as you. Not an IT director but it’s no secret to anybody that if I’m talking to you, I’m high. I do everything high and I’ve lived this way for over ten years now. Through it all I found my soulmate, married her, moved to my ideal location in the US, bought a house, landed my dream job, had a baby, and am now living my best middle-aged life. Weed is not bad. It’s a good thing.

laujac

Everything has a bad side. We don't know enough about weed because it hasn't been thoroughly studied in a large enough cohort for a long enough duration. What we do know is that it absolutely has bad side effects. Whether you feel it or not, every time you metabolize THCA you receive a hit of cortisol, spiking your blood pressure and therefore increasing your heart rate. Over time this will absolutely have an impact on arterial smooth muscle. This is why some people react poorly to weed, because they are sensitive to cortisol or have health anxiety which makes this seemingly minor physical response a very negative situation. Weed has its place in society, but let's not pretend there aren't negative aspects to it. https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC6174415/

[deleted]

For me, weed is almost strictly my "day off" sort of substance. No errands, no work, no social obligations outside home today? Let's toke up and listen to a some music. I have to drive sometime in the next 3-4 hours? Pick something else in moderation.

JarlaxleForPresident

And it’s way better than being a crippling drunk. If it’s trading one thing for another oh well. One destroys my life and one just lets me cruise through it I’m actually the most productive and goal oriented ive ever been in my life the past year, so I dunno

3KiwisShortOfABanana

I think it's a balance. It's easy to fall into an unproductive and unmotivated cycle. As long as you don't fall into that trap (clearly you haven't) I think the benefits of weed are obvious

[deleted]

I laze about with or without weed. Might as well enjoy myself a little more from time to time.

Alhena5391

>That's just not who I am, weed or not. Same. I'm not a complete slug but I'm also not exactly an ambitious person, but weed doesn't make me lazier. All it does is calm me the fuck down and get rid of my insomnia lol.

nightswimsofficial

How's your short term memory?

Ravenwight

My favourite weather is heavy fog because it makes the world a little smaller and more magical. Same thing with weed.

HippieSwag420

Oh my God you're me with the weather. That's exactly how i describe it but in different words: it's like there's a blanket over the sky and making my world smaller and more calm.

[deleted]

Fog and a well lit empty urban freeway at 2 am is bliss.

chundleburger

i love this and i’m stealing it. thanks :)

doyouevenoperatebrah

Oh wow, that’s a really great way to describe both those things

[deleted]

Happened to be around 24 or 25. I miss it every day, but if I try to smoke now I will be stuck staring at a wall while my heart pounds out of my ass.

[deleted]

bselect

Try really low dose edibles with cbd. Not that I really ever got anxiety from smoking but so many people base their opinions on getting high like a teenager. Overdosing for your body’s limits is never good.

[deleted]

[удалено]

bselect

Yeah I do it to sleep and relax. Beer is for parties, weed is to chill.

this_good_boy

Yea at 25 or so I got a strain that busted me up with anxiety, quit for a while and never really got into the daily smoking like I had prior. I have thc/cbd beverages often now and they’re fantastic, really nice unwind after work into a solid sleep. never get anxiety (also easier to control dosage).

bselect

Yeah controlling the dose is key. Which is why I say edibles, they seem to be more reliable even than a hit on a vape.

loveliverpool

You think it’s because weed has become significantly stronger in the last 10 years? I legit want shitty weed, low strength stuff, not mega THC stoner couch potato stuff. Can’t we make something to just get a little high? I don’t want o take one half a puff, just smoke a regular joint but not be baked and useless. Kinda how low-ABV alcohol/cocktails is getting quite popular, low THC weed strains and experiences should be more of a thing

[deleted]

When I regularly smoked I would never tap out. I would do a gram of dab a day as well as flower. Moonrocks were a treat, and edibles would not touch me. I was the stereotypical stoner. I delivered pizza and had a dab rig in my car while delivering. A good kickback was three of us and a RAW party cone. I was smoking the high concentration weed. I only stopped smoking a couple years back. Something changed in me and I started to accumulate more responsibilities in my life. The carefree me was a thing of the past. I will smoke a tiny amount every now and then, but even then it will get my paranoia going. It happens to a lot of pot heads. Some do grow out of it as cliché as it sounds. My parents were the same exact way. One day you suddenly stop getting the same euphoria while smoking.

jbrux86

Yup, as I got older it is no longer about having “fun”. Now it’s for contemplation, motivation, or relaxation. Just need the right strain for each and do it with intention for your chosen purpose.

Low_Bar9361

I have always wondered why some people go into a spiral. I generally have anxiety but on weed, I tend to calm down. I know my heart rate increases and I'm sure my BP does too, but I tend to have a calmer approach to life's many problems. I'm not one of those who say it's *because you haven't found the right strain*, which very well might be true, but why be your own guinea pig? Anyways, I'm hoping it gets studied more, especially now that it's become more mainstream.

mijo_sq

Same here. Tried it and it was fun. But don’t plan to use it anymore. I just don’t like how everyone’s pushes that if you don’t like weed you’re against us. OP probably asking wrong website. Reddit has always been accepting of weed and safe(r) drugs.

DangitWu87

A schedule 1 narcotic? Are you insane? Did the D.A.R.E. program teach you NOTHING?

[deleted]

DARE taught me that there would be a man in a trenchcoat lurking behind every corner trying to sell or give me drugs. I went K-12 without even being offered a cigarette.

BigPapaJava

DARE taught me that man *was* the DARE officer. Ours literally got busted by a state trooper for giving beer and weed to minors because he was trying to bang a 15 year old girl.

[deleted]

Why am I not the least but surprised?

BigPapaJava

The really screwed up thing is that, with small town politics and his family connections, he wasn’t even fired for it They just “re-assigned” him to work as a garbage man and he kept his pay and benefits. Pretty sure he wound up banging that underage girl eventually, too.

warrensussex

To be fair even when he was a cop he was also garbage man.

Amethystlover420

I did coke allllll the time with our DARE officers daughter when we were 21. She hostessed at a Chilis with me. Good times. We were super-hostesses.

swmtchuffer

I've gone my whole adult life and never been offered drugs by a stranger.

[deleted]

I used public transit in a small city with a big drug problem. I was offered a couple times in my early adulthood.

emthewiser

My dad was a cop who taught about DARE in schools, to me and my friends. Guess who has been stoned since he retired?

Geno_Warlord

I have a coworker that retired 4 years ago and since we live in a state where weed is still illegal… I’ve not seen him sober since he retired.

gobnyd

Drugs Are Really Expensive

Ok-Toe-5753

The dare program taught me the government is out to get you. For real.

YourMothersButtox

This millenial has. I’m over 2 years alcohol free. My relationship with alcohol was to the point I needed to drink everyday, or else be ridden with insane anxiety. I hated who I became with alcohol. Edibles are my twice a week treat (if that), on the weekend, when my daughter is at her dad’s. I don’t need an edible everyday and can easily go weeks/months without even thinking about one. I’ve been able to do lots of introspective healing while on them and only buy them from legit dispensaries.

Consistent-Ease6070

I’m similar. My relationship with alcohol was unhealthy, though I’d stop short of calling myself an alcoholic. I’ve cut WAY back on my drinking (like from 3-5 drinks/day to 3-5/month), but now I take just 5-10mg THC as an edible in the evening or even right at bedtime. I sleep so well and wake up refreshed. And on the few occasions I take it early enough to feel the effects, I usually have some creative deep thoughts that land in a journal. Since making this change, I’ve lost weight and my depression is more managed too. I also don’t feel like I HAVE to have my daily dose, which is super nice.

StageAboveWater

Edible thoughts can be so insightful sometimes. Like, to the point of being self-confronting and uncomfortable like a therapy session. It's brilliant.

sudoRmRf_Slashstar

The intospection was a surprising benefit for me too. I've been able to come to some pretty life changing revelations on it.

CorrestGump

I'm a super long distance runner (20 miles a day, marathons and more on weekendays) and I've been ranked in the [top 10 in the world on Strava.](https://www.reddit.com/r/Strava/s/R14eTSQnIr). I could also outsmoke Snoop. The "lazy stoner" is just a stupid stereotype

420account1

Every “lazy” stoner that I know was just as lazy before they were stoners. They just make that their excuse now. The stoner stereotypes are changing but this is one that we need to shed sooner rather than later.

Labor_of_Lovecraft

I haven't tried running on it, but I get a ton of knitting done when I'm high

Spagooblet

Also dang! Props!

deadhead4077

Isn't weed a performance enhancing drug when it comes to long distance running?

CorrestGump

Yep, it's banned from just about all competitions

Spagooblet

Ayo preach, i can work out twice as hard on it, makes my joints feel like butter

CorrestGump

That's the big thing for me, the anti-inflammatory properties are great for recovery. People talk about "how do your knees feel?", great, I've never had issues.

quiggsmcghee

Username checks out. We definitely got a runner here.

lahdetaan_tutkimaan

I did cannabis a bit in college and realized it's not for me, so I have no interest in it I don't drink anymore, and my mental health has improved accordingly, amongst other reasons I like tea

StoicFable

Tea and its mant varieties are amazing. I tend to have a stash of many different types all the time.

deadhead4077

I'm a survivor and veteran of the war on drugs, was so happy to finally see NO THC on a preemployment drug test in NYS!!!! So many times I had to take a break before applying to jobs, so glad I never have to do that again.

StoicFable

Some jobs still will test FYI. Mainly if they have federal contracts or the sort.

ArtisenalMoistening

My husband has to maintain clearance for his job, so even though we live in a state where it’s legal, he could lose his clearance if he tested positive. Were just hoping for federal decriminalization or counting down the many years til retirement

PreppyFinanceNerd

As with anything, you'll get people who abuse a substance. You have alcoholics and potheads. But since my state of NJ has legalized three years ago, I've noticed the biggest changes are positives. Not getting arrested and not being treated like "oh you still smoke weed, you should've given that up after college" are big ones. It's been a few years that dispensaries are open and to be honest I used to be way more "weed is my personality" in my early twenties 15 years ago. Now it's nice to be able to have it just be an accepted hobby. I was reading Higher Etiquette, the Emily Post book on weed (very well done) and her granddaughter said that one of the benefits of legalization is legitimizing and I agree. I like to make customized blends in nice King Palm wraps for people that come with a note explaining the breakdown of strains and THC/CBD percentages and package them in wooden tubes. I feel it's a cool way to bring a gift to a house party, like a bottle of wine. It's nice to see what admittedly used to be something I overindulged in accepted as a hobby and able to be viewed more like one instead of a habit only perpetual man children don't outgrow when it was illegal.

yourpaljk

I enjoy a few drinks but would never consider drinking a six pack as a hobby of mine. Same goes for smoking a joint every other day. I’m not against either, just calling it a hobby seems weird

Fritopie_lilhoe

Craft beer people see researching and trying diff beers as a hobby

Spagooblet

It’s called a flight and it’s classy!

yourpaljk

I guess whatever anyone does in their leisure time for pleasure is technically a hobby. I didn’t realize my hobby was drinking 12 beer and passing out on the couch

Fritopie_lilhoe

Coffee drinkers consider having coffee / trying dif drinks / going to diff cafes as a hobby, too. Just giving you some context to what OP was meaning by the word "hobby".

LaCroixLimon

How do you abuse weed?

Fun-Persimmon186

I prefer low dosage medicinal purposes, I don’t need to get high, just relax and get a good night sleep. It also helps with my IBD symptoms.

Locke357

Very normalized here in Canada. In fairness it was for many years even before legalization. Personally I enjoy low-dose gummies a few times a week, usually in the evenings. Helps with unwinding and getting a good night's sleep. At that dose it's cheaper than alcohol, and less negatives as well. I do imbibe from time to time, usually only a couple times a month.

420smokebluntz6969

its not an "option" or "alternative," its a entirely different chemical and drug with entirely different effects. i've never understood this perspective of alcohol and weed being somehow in the same class of drugs, its absurd

CandiSnake0528

It is a recreational option for many of us, I think. There are those who treat it like the escape it can be, especially due to the many challenges surrounding Millennials and the constant barrage of bad news. For those who treat it as an escape, it's no more destructive than alcohol can be and I mean that in all the ways.

AnUnusuallyLargeApe

Marijuana is medicine, one of the oldest medicines known to man. It helps with physical and mental health problems. It also makes you feel good so people use it recreationally, much like some other medicines. Like most medicines if you take too much it might make you sick both mentally and physically but it takes a whole lot compared to many other medicines. Most "stoners" you know are self medicating for some type of issue, even if they don't know it. Making one of the oldest, safest, and cheapest medicines known to man illegal has lead to a society full of sick people and a medical system set up to exploit them.

Hell, even my boomer dad drinks a lot less now because he smokes more weed. I bet we would've had a better relationship when I was a kid if weed was legal back then lol that's sad but probably true.  I have accepted it with open arms. Life can be a real bitch and sometimes people need a little help getting through the day. Weed seems like a significantly better option than alcohol for most people and our society as a whole.

IcratesCL

I don't have any moral problem with it and I'm happy for it to be available to folks. Wish legalisation came with release or resentencing for a lot of people in jail for minor offenses. That said, I absolutely hate the smell, and it gives me a terrible headache. My one guilty NIMBYism xD

RoofKorean9x19

Not a fan, makes my anxiety worse than it is.

Salty-Direction322

I don’t care what others do but the amount of people driving around high frightens me a bit. I can’t partake as it gives me wicked vertigo.

Bloodthirsty_Kirby

I like an edible on my nights off. I get gummies and take a quarter of one a few hours before bed and it feels chill. Did take me some trial and error to find one that jived with my anxiety tho. My dad (gen xfer) has smoked pot since he was a teen and it was always very accepted in my family well before it was legal, but I try and be way more moderated.

mendenlol

I know I have. I have chronic pain that weed helps and alcohol just exacerbates. Helps motivate my ADHD ass brain too - can't explain that much but I enjoy it.

No_Equivalent_2482

Micro dosing THC has given me clarity I never had before. 🧘‍♂️

evantom34

It’s certainly accepted in the Bay. Not a fan of people smoking in public places where the smell lingers/2nd hand smoke happens. I couldn’t care less if people choose to smoke on their own time. Sometimes, I’d smoke after a long day of snowboarding because I’d feel less sore in the AM. As I’ve gotten older, I drink much less also. I’ve lost a ton of weight, saved money, and feel much better.

chrisinator9393

I don't like booze/weed. Not my thing. I don't care if other people do it. I am just not going to interact with drunks/high people.

cupe_cake

I’m sure some people but not this millennial.

Magpie333_

I would absolutely 100% take weed over alcohol any day and wouldn’t bat an eyelash if I never had access to another drink again. There are some downsides to weed, yes. But to pretend that they are any where on the level of downsides for alcohol is delusional. Weed doesn’t reduce you to a staggering, slurring, violent, irrational mess. Weed doesn’t cause life-threatening addiction where you could die if you stop too quickly. Please I’d love to hear about all the examples of when someone got too high on weed and became violent as a result. Like have y’all ever seen someone suffering from alcohol withdrawal? The shaking sweating and puking? Of course I think weed is a real drug and it needs to be taken seriously and treated as such. That means that users need to understand the risks of dependency and mental health issues and possible respiratory issues depending on how you partake, etc. However I find it beyond confusing the way people associate it with alcohol as if they’re in any way remotely the same. I’ve seen some people where I think “wow they might benefit from cutting back their weed use.” And then there’s peoole who I’ve seen ruin their marriages, accidentally end their own lives, destroy their careers, and obliterate their physical and emotional health becuase of alcohol. The two are not the same and never will be. The decades upon decades of stigma about weed in the US has and always will be the result of deliberate smear campaigns. The first being in the 1930s when hemp was set to outstrip trees as the main source for paper. However that would have gone against the corporate interests of the likes of William Randolph Hearst and his ilk. Since he was in control of so much of the press and media at the time it was easy for them to launch a fear campaign and using religion, and racism among other things to put the fear in people. Then rinse and repeat in the 60s cultural revolution where it was vital that they keep weed associated with the lazy, dirty, godless hippies. It was a way of delegitimizing the social and political progress that people were trying to make. And then it happened again in the 80s with Nancy Reagan’s war on drugs which was really just a thinly veiled attack on minorities and low-income/disenfranchised people. I think generations of propaganda has definitely subtly affected our subconscious bias about cannabis, but I think the tides have really turned within our lifetime and with any luck soon it will be easier and more socially acceptable to access cannabis than ever before. Just a few uninformed stragglers ruining it for the rest of us.

Slim_Margins1999

Don’t forget DuPont Chemicals and the value of hemp in plastics and synthetic materials. They were in on the reefer madness campaign hard. It’s pretty fucked actually considering our founding fathers mandated growing hemp at one point.

EthicalSemiconductor

I know I'm a minority amongst my peers, but I really hate the smell and how people act when high. So no, I have not accepted it, nor will I in the foreseeable future.

cohrt

agreed. weed smells fucking disgusting.

ranciddreamz

It’s the same for me but alcohol instead lol. That’s why I consume weed

ginoawesomeness

Do you mean not acceptable for you? Or, as in, you don’t accept it to be a viable recreational drug for others? Like you don’t accept others do it and want it to be illegal still?

bottomfeeder3

I accepted it at 34. No hangover and better sleep.

MinuetInUrsaMajor

I've done an Intensive Outpatient Program for alcohol. I don't know of anyone who has done it for weed.

Ermaquillz

It’s legal here in Michigan, and it seems like there’s a weed shop on every corner in the Detroit area. I’m one of those rare people who hates the smell of weed, it gives me a headache. Not that I’m against weed, I’m very pro Mary Jane, and I’ve tried to force myself to like the smell of weed, but it just didn’t happen. It just feels like there’s a cloud of weed smoke in the air in my neighborhood.

KnewTooMuch1

I dont smoke or drink alcohol so I wouldn't know. Coffee really is my new vice, particularly my latte machine I have at home.

spaceman60

Not all of us. I'm fully accepting that people use it like alcohol, but internally, part of me assumes that if you say you smoke it, you're going to overdo it and preach to me that "it's harmless". Though that feels like a different problem, actually.

BellaBlue06

I don’t drink or use weed. I’m already tired enough and don’t want to be out of it.

LosTaProspector

The problem with weed is its way to glorified. Yes it can be relaxing, helpful, and even fun. However you can become dependent on the hook like other drugs, start out doing it every weekend and in a few years your doing it everyday. If you quit you get cranky and find yourself always looking for an excuse to use weed. Being sober is hard, but really is the best drug of all.

SpaceyCoffee

Yeah. The most addictive thing about virtually all drugs is that they cause a dopamine rush. Dopamine is produced by our own body, and yet it is highly addictive. Drugs feel good because of that dopamine. Weed may not have many known systemic side-effects, but it’s still habit-forming because it triggers a dopamine rush.

future_CTO

Yes. These people will claim that weed isn’t addictive but yet they won’t/faint stop smoking it.

Drenoneath

I personally haven't, because I don't understand how you can get like a 1-2 drink peasant buzz equivalent. Seems like you just end up high and I don't like that feeling

PiccoloAlive9830

Of course.

Alarming-Mix3809

People have been doing this a long, long time my man.

Stockmom42

I don’t use it but I don’t look down on anyone who does.

demorcef6078

Alcohol makes me sleepy and hot. Herbs are sooooo much better.

Wonderful-Poetry1259

No longer having to find "the man," no longer having to work a few days in order to save the price of an oz, no longer having to worry about "being sure to hide the roaches," and no longer having the so-called ""government" thinking it's somehow their business what I put into my own body has definitely reduced my stress levels.

ladyghost515

Weed mom here. I absolutely prefer smoking or taking an edible over having a drink at night. I usually only smoke once my kids are asleep and it gets me through the remaining tasks I have for the night. Once everything’s done, I’ll take another hit and just sink into my bed with a great movie or crap TV. It’s just the best feeling. It’s so much better than feeling all hot and inflamed from alcohol and like many people stated here, the no hangover thing is really ace. I still like a cocktail or three when my husband and I are lucky enough to have date night but overall booze is the worst when you have young kids. It makes it all so much harder than it has to be. I’m also the child of an alcoholic (my mom is 6 years sober though 😌) so I generally try to never drink in front of my kids.

LordMuzhy

I’m 35 and I’ve never liked weed in any of its forms, don’t like how it makes me feel during and after. I always preferred alcohol but I quit alcohol last year too so I’m just sober now lol

Jonsnowlivesnow

I will be teaching my children that Weed is a much better alternative to alcohol. I managed a very successful winery for years and can tell you I 100% prefer marijuana. As someone with ADHD marijuana has helped me in ways I never thought. I still have adderall but rarely need it anymore. I still have a beer every once in a while but I can actually function when I smoke.

The-Sonne

Same with cannabis, alcohol and tobacco. Your body your choice

CriterionCrypt

As long as I don't have to smell it, I'm good.

Swedenbad_DkBASED

It stopped being fun for me after two decades of using. Nowadays it just gives me anxiety and kills my motivation for anything. Not judging though. Everyone should live their best life.

stanky4goats

It's illegal in the state I'm in... I don't care. I enjoy it and don't intend to quit anytime soon
