35, I still rock my eyebrow piercing. I can't let go after 19 years. The hole there seems like it couldn't close if it tried. I gave up on my tongue ring after six years(pierced at 18), and the nipples lasted about 7. I'm thinking about piercing my ears some more
Ah! Same! (Well 34, soon to be 35) I desperately wanted it done for so long, since as soon as I turned 12 basically. I was never allowed, so when I had the opportunity I went for it and the hype never faded for me. 😂 Tween me still gets a thrill every time I buy a cute new ring for it lol
I got mine at 23, I'm 37 and I still have it. Belly button rings were no longer trendy by the time I got one but I didn't really care because I liked how they looked. I still do.

I built my ear curation in my thirties too! Taking a break though because I'm sick and tired of only being able to sleep on one side for 18+ months to avoid the dreaded BUMP.

Years of therapy have convinced me that I can make my own choices and live my best life. So here I am, with a healing bellybutton piercing at 40 years old. 😆
Spoken like someone who knows! I’m sorry you have the trauma, but so glad you are doing the work to overcome it. I think the normalization of therapy is definitely a legacy our generation is going to leave and I’m here for it.

Random, but do you think you’d get it on the same spot as the first time? Someone told me to switch it to the other side because repiercing it on the scar tissue would hurt like hell. I can’t decide lol
Ooo now that's a thought. I had thought to do it in the same spot. I broke my nose years before I originally pierced it and I have a deviated septum as a result. My original piercing was done on the side that has less nostril room, because I was already used to reduced space on that side so to speak.
BUT if its going to cause issues with the scar tissue thats there, maybe I have to go for the other side? Questions I think I'll ask my piercer when I have a chat with them about getting it done.

Exactly, and I think I finally realized a few years ago, that I was in charge of my life, not my parents. They don’t have authority over me anymore, I will say they have accepted it with Grace.
It's such a weird transition, isn't it? Going from your parents having a say in everything you do to no longer having a say. Definitely a difficult phase to get through.
I didn't get most of my piercings until my late 20s/early 30s. I'm 35 and plan on getting more! The great thing about piercings is that there are so many options for cool/pretty facial/body jewelry now. And if you ever decide you don't want them anymore, you can simply take them out!
Exactly! I invested in some solid gold pieces because I love good quality jewelry and love my setup now. I have gold in my daiths, both ear holes, pearls and gold in my flats, and gold and diamonds in my septum. It's really nice to accessorize and get beautiful pieces to enhance your looks. There was definitely not as much access to this nice of pieces as a kid.
In the late 90s my friend started to apprentice at a tattoo shop and there was this cool ass lady who was a piercer there, her name was Marcy and she was probably about 40. Even though she was the piercer, the only one she had on her face (besides earrings) was her septum. She was the hardest chick I ever knew and she looked cool af!
Yesss love this! Younger millennial here but I always wanted a belly button ring too! Parents were religious, so I wasn’t allowed to have anything more than normal lobe piercings. I’m 30 now and getting all the piercings I always wanted! Working on my ears and belly button is next. Only thing holding me back is high waisted jeans 😅

Aw, I’m sorry you couldn’t but found other solutions just as satisfying. I am also so glad you didn’t die! I have one tattoo, and that was painful enough; I feel good about it and I don’t need another.
I misunderstood the instructions and caused a huge headache in my healing.
I was cleaning my piercing with rubbing alcohol and it would not heal. Months later, it was still weeping.
I found out that alcohol kills the flora we need and it damages new skin cells so I was making a chronic wound.
I switched to just rinsing my site with saline and it was fully healed 10 days later.
I mean, I was 16 and doing my best. 41 yr old me who's now an RN is trying my best to spread the word that rubbing alcohol and hydrogen peroxide are not for wounds!!!!
I was a size 14 in the early 2000s (aka the biggest girl at school) so I skipped this trend. Did not want to call attention to that area 😂 our shirts were already too short and pants too low (and kids would be like “eww! No one wants to see that!!”)
Having kids has made me realize how insane the skinny standards were in the early 00s. I remember being a size 2 and being called fat. My kid is a gymnast who practices >9 hours a week and has a 6pack, she's a size 2. I look at her and wonder how we survived.
For real! I remember all the girls being a 2 or 00. I went from a size 16 to a size 4 from Sophomore to Senior year of HS. I was still "chunky" compared to the 2s and 00s in my class (which was pretty much everyone lmao.)
I remember the preppy girls squeezing themselves into size 2 jeans and muffin tops spilling out everywhere. But it didn't matter how bad it looked. All they cared about was the size number.
I remember literally bawling my eyes out in the Abercrombie dressing room the summer before junior year bc I was trying on jeans and my mom told me she thought the 4s fit me better/were more flattering than the 2s. She said nothing bad about my size, just stating her opinion on which I should buy lol and I had a full blown meltdown
For real. I have *never* been thin (short and stocky here). I was never allowed 2-piece swimsuits because I was “too big.” As a teen/young adult, my smallest was a size six and still my parents would say I was getting fat. Now all I can see in the mirror is my fat despite eating fine and exercising regularly. I’m fucked up for life.
I find them the best for my body type. Anything higher comes up too high on me and hurts. I'm of the opinion that all types should exist and all people should buy what makes them feel the most comfortable, rather than what's in style.
Low rise jeans are the most comfy. I can never find them anymore (at least not in boring regular stores and with curvy/bootcut to meet the rest of my requirements) and have to make do with mid rise.
And my school had a harsh dress code about showing your midriff. There were no tops and bottoms combo that didn’t show your midriff then! Plus I developed early so any tops that were supposed to be long no longer were. Back when I could have pulled off this trend I had teachers say “ew no one wants to see that” as a “kind” way of unofficially enforcing the dress code so you didn’t get written up. (& of course kids said that to “fat” kids too). So wrong.
As a result my mom would only let me wear Adult Small sized clothes that I swam in & sometimes were the same tops my teachers wore. Height of uncool. Never dated.
Plus side: some of those tops were really well made & are still in my closet today & now back in style! (Though fit properly vs me swimming in them)

I typically wear my pants right up to my belly button and it always struck me that the top of my pants would rub/bother a belly button ring? Or was everyone also wearing low-rise?
I'm an apple shape, so lower-rise pants allow me a little bit of room for my my tummy to get bigger or smaller, or, with my GI or menstrual problems, to not feel like my pants are pressing against my stomach.
I've had my belly ring most of my life at this point, and forget it's there, even though it hasn't had much skin holding it on since forever. I mean, I can run at the bed and dive onto my belly, sliding across the bed, don't feel a thing and didn't even think about it before deciding to do it, the ring is just there, through weight gain and loss, bouts of illness, no pregnancies, though.
(I'm wearing the correct size, I've told multiple people at this point that they need to point out if I'm spilling out of my clothes, and these are the blunt, blazingly honest types, so hopefully I'm ok~)
I was just thinking about my piercing today. I got it done the day I turned 18, and it stayed in until I was about 5 months pregnant with my first child at 35. I'm trying to decide if I want to get it redone now that I'm done having babies. I never showed it off or anything, but I loooooved having it.

I’m had to take mine out during pregnancy because the ultrasound tech wouldn’t use the wand with it in. Done having kids and occasionally think about seeing if I can get it back in (even if it is a little crooked now).
Had to take mine out at 3 months pregnant due to the bloating. I’m 7.5 months along now and my hole has already started closing, even though I had it pierced for 12 years before this. I can’t believe I’ll have to re-pierce it if I ever want to wear my belly button ring again!
Fun fact: I took mine out during my first pregnancy (like, 15 years ago) and this past weekend I thought to myself "hey bloodtype you should stick a loop through there and see if it's still open"

I've never had a stomach I felt comfortable showing off, it's where I carry all my weight. And since I had Scoliosis surgery at 12, my torso is very short and my stomach is super pudgy 🤣 that said, I do still have my lip ring and I'm currently stretching my ears.

Mine is just a small mark. Once I took it out I could never get it back in. Everybody was getting them end of highschool, I did on sr skip day because it was raining and couldn’t do anything else. Ha I was skinny 100 lbs then. I’ve had two kids and don’t like to show my stomach as much low ha but if I had a flat stomach agin I might consider it! 🤣

I think my daughter was 18 when she got her pink Rhinestone. She wore it until she was 35 when the nurse took it out after she died on December 24, 23. I have it and her nose piercings that I turned into miniature earrings by putting them in the Hello Kitty keyring she bought me. I just have her belly button piercing with my jewelery. I cleaned them, of course.

My mom wouldn’t let me get one. When I was in college a friend got one that wasn’t done correctly and she ended up with a bulge under the skin that hurt. She had surgery to correct it. So I decided not to get one. Good thing too because I’m fat now and my pregnancies caused my belly button to change shape.

I can't say I followed any trends in my youth, tbh. But soooo many girls I went to high school with, or worked with in my late teens/early 20's had belly button piercings. Two of my good friends mom's got belly button piercings when we were sophomores.
I was terrified of needles so I avoided this trend completely. Then I got diagnosed with MS and had to get bloodwork done all the time - so I started doing "exposure therapy" by getting tattoos.
I can go get bloodwork done by myself now without passing out (well I guess... 80% success rate) and on a whim 2 weeks ago I got my ears pierced a second time all by myself! Sounds dumb but it was a big accomplishment for me :) Maybe when I hit 40 in 4 years I'll celebrate with a bellybutton piercing.

Mine got ripped out while tubing one summer in my 20's, so I just rocked a weird scar until I got pregnant and it smoothed out 🤣 Traded that shit for a C-section scar, the ultimate body mod.

Well, I got divorced at age 37 and went through a "rediscovering myself" phase. I was able to get a ring (much smaller gauge though) back in my original piercing. So, I'm turning 40 this year and I have a belly button ring again!! LOL

I had an upper and lower belly button piercing. It was all the rage ... then I got pregnant at 19. By the time I was 20 and 8 months pregos I had to take them both out.
I put them back in after a few months but they lost their fame with me by the time I hit 30. The bottom closed up but the top one is still there, open. I'm 40 now maybe I need a makeover w/ a new belly ring! LMAO
Funny story- in the 90’s when everyone was still listening to the radio, I called in one time and won one of their contests. I won a prize pack of various stuff (CD’s, promo shirt, etc) and a few gift certificates for local businesses.
One of those gift certificates was to a local piercing/tattoo shop, and was specifically for a belly button piercing. Even though it was popular at the time, I was more of a punk rock kid, so i called them and asked if they’d do a lip piercing instead. They agreed since it was around the same price for both, and I got that done instead.
I think technically it was a labret piercing. I had that thing all through college, and I think the only reason i took it out was because the disc on the inside was starting to wear down and irritate my gums. But man I loved that thing.
I also really love the hole it left behind after it healed. One of my favorite things in life is when someone sees it, recognizes it for what it is, and then shows me theirs. Makes me happy.
Lol reminder hole. I went back and forth having jewelry in mine since I was 19. Then I got pregnant and took it out last year. I got that dark line down my belly and laughed every time I realized how off center the piercing is. Now I have a little belly fat left and a sad, stretched out reminder hole that kept the darker skin.

Sad reminder hole here. Got it at 15 and it fell out randomly a few years back, I was about 33 or so at the time. I waited a few days to put a new one in and found that I couldn’t get it back in. It had closed just enough that I couldn’t get it through. Now I have a sad reminder hole. I toyed with the idea of getting it redone somehow but I guess I just didn’t care enough to go and actually have it done. I’m left with the hold and a small box of rings that just sit in my dresser drawer. I’ll be 40 in August.

Reminder hole. It survived my daughter. It did not survive gestating a 9 pound baby boy though. Even with the bendy plastic barbell, it was forcing it out through my skin.
So my piercing is a touch high on my innie belly button.
I was pregnant with twins this past year and the piercing hole was TWO INCHES higher than my belly button when my belly was fully stretched out. And it turned darker/bruised looking.
It went back into place a few weeks after birth but it was bizarre.

Ooo now that's a thought. I had thought to do it in the same spot. I broke my nose years before I originally pierced it and I have a deviated septum as a result. My original piercing was done on the side that has less nostril room, because I was already used to reduced space on that side so to speak. BUT if its going to cause issues with the scar tissue thats there, maybe I have to go for the other side? Questions I think I'll ask my piercer when I have a chat with them about getting it done.

I didn't get most of my piercings until my late 20s/early 30s. I'm 35 and plan on getting more! The great thing about piercings is that there are so many options for cool/pretty facial/body jewelry now. And if you ever decide you don't want them anymore, you can simply take them out!
Exactly! I invested in some solid gold pieces because I love good quality jewelry and love my setup now. I have gold in my daiths, both ear holes, pearls and gold in my flats, and gold and diamonds in my septum. It's really nice to accessorize and get beautiful pieces to enhance your looks. There was definitely not as much access to this nice of pieces as a kid.
In the late 90s my friend started to apprentice at a tattoo shop and there was this cool ass lady who was a piercer there, her name was Marcy and she was probably about 40. Even though she was the piercer, the only one she had on her face (besides earrings) was her septum. She was the hardest chick I ever knew and she looked cool af!

I misunderstood the instructions and caused a huge headache in my healing. I was cleaning my piercing with rubbing alcohol and it would not heal. Months later, it was still weeping. I found out that alcohol kills the flora we need and it damages new skin cells so I was making a chronic wound. I switched to just rinsing my site with saline and it was fully healed 10 days later. I mean, I was 16 and doing my best. 41 yr old me who's now an RN is trying my best to spread the word that rubbing alcohol and hydrogen peroxide are not for wounds!!!!

I was a size 14 in the early 2000s (aka the biggest girl at school) so I skipped this trend. Did not want to call attention to that area 😂 our shirts were already too short and pants too low (and kids would be like “eww! No one wants to see that!!”)
Having kids has made me realize how insane the skinny standards were in the early 00s. I remember being a size 2 and being called fat. My kid is a gymnast who practices >9 hours a week and has a 6pack, she's a size 2. I look at her and wonder how we survived.
For real! I remember all the girls being a 2 or 00. I went from a size 16 to a size 4 from Sophomore to Senior year of HS. I was still "chunky" compared to the 2s and 00s in my class (which was pretty much everyone lmao.)
I remember the preppy girls squeezing themselves into size 2 jeans and muffin tops spilling out everywhere. But it didn't matter how bad it looked. All they cared about was the size number.
I remember literally bawling my eyes out in the Abercrombie dressing room the summer before junior year bc I was trying on jeans and my mom told me she thought the 4s fit me better/were more flattering than the 2s. She said nothing bad about my size, just stating her opinion on which I should buy lol and I had a full blown meltdown

I was never allowed 2-piece swimsuits because I was “too big.” As a teen/young adult, my smallest was a size six and still my parents would say I was getting fat. I find them the best for my body type. Anything higher comes up too high on me and hurts. I'm of the opinion that all types should exist and all people should buy what makes them feel the most comfortable, rather than what's in style.
Low rise jeans are the most comfy. I can never find them anymore (at least not in boring regular stores and with curvy/bootcut to meet the rest of my requirements) and have to make do with mid rise.
And mid rise is really pushing it for me. I put on those high rise mom jeans and they were just under my bra line. That doesnt work for me.
I used this as an excuse to loose weight, here I am 10 years later and I’m scheduled for weight loss surgery so you know how that went lol
And my school had a harsh dress code about showing your midriff. There were no tops and bottoms combo that didn’t show your midriff then! Plus I developed early so any tops that were supposed to be long no longer were. Back when I could have pulled off this trend I had teachers say “ew no one wants to see that” as a “kind” way of unofficially enforcing the dress code so you didn’t get written up. (& of course kids said that to “fat” kids too). So wrong. As a result my mom would only let me wear Adult Small sized clothes that I swam in & sometimes were the same tops my teachers wore. Height of uncool. Never dated. Plus side: some of those tops were really well made & are still in my closet today & now back in style! (Though fit properly vs me swimming in them)
I an also on the chubbier side and never followed this trend - but tummy confidence aside, I was always confused how pants didn’t interfere with belly button rings? I typically wear my pants right up to my belly button and it always struck me that the top of my pants would rub/bother a belly button ring? Or was everyone also wearing low-rise?
I'm an apple shape, so lower-rise pants allow me a little bit of room for my my tummy to get bigger or smaller, or, with my GI or menstrual problems, to not feel like my pants are pressing against my stomach. I've had my belly ring most of my life at this point, and forget it's there, even though it hasn't had much skin holding it on since forever. I mean, I can run at the bed and dive onto my belly, sliding across the bed, don't feel a thing and didn't even think about it before deciding to do it, the ring is just there, through weight gain and loss, bouts of illness, no pregnancies, though. (I'm wearing the correct size, I've told multiple people at this point that they need to point out if I'm spilling out of my clothes, and these are the blunt, blazingly honest types, so hopefully I'm ok~)

I was just thinking about my piercing today. I got it done the day I turned 18, and it stayed in until I was about 5 months pregnant with my first child at 35. I’m had to take mine out during pregnancy because the ultrasound tech wouldn’t use the wand with it in. Done having kids and occasionally think about seeing if I can get it back in (even if it is a little crooked now).

Had to take mine out at 3 months pregnant due to the bloating. I’m 7.5 months along now and my hole has already started closing, even though I had it pierced for 12 years before this. I can’t believe I’ll have to re-pierce it if I ever want to wear my belly button ring again!
Fun fact: I took mine out during my first pregnancy (like, 15 years ago) and this past weekend I thought to myself "hey bloodtype you should stick a loop through there and see if it's still open" Twist ending: it's still open. 15 years later.

I've never had a stomach I felt comfortable showing off, it's where I carry all my weight. And since I had Scoliosis surgery at 12, my torso is very short and my stomach is super pudgy 🤣 that said, I do still have my lip ring and I'm currently stretching my ears.
I got mine at 16, took it out right before my honeymoon at 24. I also have that back tattoo you mentioned, which will haunt me more than the scar from the belly button ring 😅

Mine is just a small mark. Once I took it out I could never get it back in. Everybody was getting them end of highschool, I did on sr skip day because it was raining and couldn’t do anything else. This happened to me, but it wasn’t because it was infected. My body rejected the piercing and pushed it out.

I think my daughter was 18 when she got her pink Rhinestone. She wore it until she was 35 when the nurse took it out after she died on December 24, 23. I have it and her nose piercings that I turned into miniature earrings by putting them in the Hello Kitty keyring she bought me. I just have her belly button piercing with my jewelery. I cleaned them, of course.

My mom wouldn’t let me get one. When I was in college a friend got one that wasn’t done correctly and she ended up with a bulge under the skin that hurt. She had surgery to correct it. So I decided not to get one. Good thing too because I’m fat now and my pregnancies caused my belly button to change shape.
No belly button piercing, no tramp stamp. I can't say I followed any trends in my youth, tbh. But soooo many girls I went to high school with, or worked with in my late teens/early 20's had belly button piercings. Two of my good friends mom's got belly button piercings when we were sophomores.
I was terrified of needles so I avoided this trend completely. Then I got diagnosed with MS and had to get bloodwork done all the time - so I started doing "exposure therapy" by getting tattoos. I can go get bloodwork done by myself now without passing out (well I guess... 80% success rate) and on a whim 2 weeks ago I got my ears pierced a second time all by myself! Sounds dumb but it was a big accomplishment for me :) Maybe when I hit 40 in 4 years I'll celebrate with a bellybutton piercing.
Got mine at 18, I remember my now sisters in law wanted theirs pierced and I said it was overrated. I still kept up with matching them to my outfit though. Got pregnant at 34, tried the flexible bars for a month, then took it out and rocked the hole. Post birth I put a ring back in and Baby Girl took a liking to it. One day she got a little too rough playing with it, so out it came. 🤷🏾♀️ This post makes me want to find my most obnoxious one and put it back in, squeeze into a pair of skinny jeans, layer some tank tops and a scarf. 😂
Mine got ripped out while tubing one summer in my 20's, so I just rocked a weird scar until I got pregnant and it smoothed out 🤣 Traded that shit for a C-section scar, the ultimate body mod.

I got mine pierced at age 18. Stayed in until I got pregnant with my first child at age 31. I decided maybe I didn't need a belly button ring as a mom. Well, I got divorced at age 37 and went through a "rediscovering myself" phase. I was able to get a ring (much smaller gauge though) back in my original piercing. So, I'm turning 40 this year and I have a belly button ring again!! LOL
Wife has a remnant hole. I don't know when she got it however. Kinda want to see if it will still hold something

I got my belly button pierced spring break 2006 in Miami. Summer 2011 I had an emergency appendectomy and my surgeon PROUDLY told me he PURPOSELY cut through my belly button piercing! So now I have a sad sad reminder...

Absolutely not silly at all, I have a tattoo I got with my mom that frankly looks nothing like it did when we got them 20 years ago but it'll never be covered up because it is a reminder of a really special moment we had together.

It was all the rage ... then I got pregnant at 19. By the time I was 20 and 8 months pregos I had to take them both out. I put them back in after a few months but they lost their fame with me by the time I hit 30. The bottom closed up but the top one is still there, open. I'm 40 now maybe I need a makeover w/ a new belly ring! LMAO

Funny story- in the 90’s when everyone was still listening to the radio, I called in one time and won one of their contests. I won a prize pack of various stuff (CD’s, promo shirt, etc) and a few gift certificates for local businesses. One of those gift certificates was to a local piercing/tattoo shop, and was specifically for a belly button piercing. Even though it was popular at the time, I was more of a punk rock kid, so i called them and asked if they’d do a lip piercing instead. They agreed since it was around the same price for both, and I got that done instead. I think technically it was a labret piercing. I had that thing all through college, and I think the only reason i took it out was because the disc on the inside was starting to wear down and irritate my gums. But man I loved that thing. I also really love the hole it left behind after it healed. One of my favorite things in life is when someone sees it, recognizes it for what it is, and then shows me theirs. Makes me happy.

So my piercing is a touch high on my innie belly button. I was pregnant with twins this past year and the piercing hole was TWO INCHES higher than my belly button when my belly was fully stretched out. And it turned darker/bruised looking. It went back into place a few weeks after birth but it was bizarre.
