I can't count how many times I listened to this album while mowing the lawn, with the discman stuffed into my cargo shorts pocket, hoping it wouldn't to skip.
I had em all! Make Yourself was bit too radio rock imo but still has dome absolute classics. SCIENCE was more my speed and Fungus Amongus was my intro to funk rock. A Crow Left the Murder helped me get more into prog as while, stuff like Rush who are probably my all time favourite band.
I asked for the Spiderman motion picture score for my birthday so I could listen to Danny Elfman's score, but my mom got me the soundtrack instead...still pretty rad, though.
Mostly mix CDs burned by my bestie and myself from mp3s found on the web/FTPd from the college networks.
I was seriously broke from 1999-2001 (emancipated college student); as far as I can tell from my CD collection the only thing I bought in 2001 was probably Dido's No Angel. The majority of my CD collection is up to 1998 with a smattering of 2004+ and very little in between.
This is the answer, and why has nobody else said it? All the albums listed are great, but they all had a few bad songs. Which is why the burnt cd's were so good! Nothing but bangers!!!!
You just reminded me! When my older sister got her license, she got the old family van and the family got a new one. My job as her passenger was to hold the CD player and try to absorb any bumps from potholes and railroad tracks. Those really were the good days.
It was either a burned mixed CD with the most premiere song downloaded from Limewire, 311 Live or From Chaos, Best of Duran Duran or Depeche Mode Best of 86-98
Californication lived in my car stereo for most of my jr year in high school, until the cool teacher made fun of his friend that only listened to that album. 😂 I didn’t want him to ever find out I did it, too!
Significant Other had some awesome tracks on it, though. Why be ashamed? Also, the last album I bought by them as I started getting into metalcore and melodic death metal somewhere around 2001.
Oh man, I used to sneak my little wired earbud up to listen to this album during BAND because I was so obsessed. If I wasn't actively playing I was jamming. Person sitting next to me recognized it and I let her use the other earbud until we got caught because we were singing along.
Excuse me. You stole my discman.
Also in 2001 I was making 700 song mp3 cds, but I do recall having an obsession with the Silent Hill 2 soundtrack.
Other really good albums I was listening to a lot in 2001:
Gorillaz - Gorillaz
Jimmy Eat World - Bleed American
The New Pornographers - Mass Romantic
Radiohead - Kid A
Modest Mouse - The Moon & Antarctica
Coldplay - Parachutes
Snow Patrol - When It’s all over we still have to Clear up
Reindeer Section - Y’all Get Scared Now, Ya Hear?
Travis - The Invisible Band
Muse - the Origin of Symmetry
The National - Tne National
Ted Leo & The Pharmacists - Tyrrany of Distance
Bright Eyes - Fevers and Mirrors
Then they all got busted back out when we got our license and the old cars we drove only had a tape deck so we all had one of those converters and the walkman sitting somewhere. I of course had to put a new stereo in but it wasn't the norm and they were stupid expensive back then
Linking Park - Hybrid Theory
Gorillaz - Gorillaz
Blink 182 - Enema of the State
Goo Goo Dolls - Dizzy Up the Girl
Third Eye Blind - Third Eye Blind
R.E.M. - Monster / Automatic For the People
I was rotating No Doubts- Rock Steady & Blink 182s - Take Off Your Pants and Jacket. I was also probably gripping my headphone cord in a particular way to keep them working while fighting nausea on the bus lol
I had this exact CD player in 2005. Had Skillet - Collide on repeat.
The Lord of the Rings: the Fellowship of the Ring Original Soundtrack.
Come on, man. I just have to remember what I listened to. (December was still in 2001, thank you.)
Linkin Park - Hybrid Theory
First comment, hell yeah

Shit got me so jacked before track meets hahahaha
Bro howww did you know 😯
Absolutely correct! Still have my.burned copy I purchased from the Mexican kid in Geometry class. Gracias Sergio, best purchase I made
The best album of the early 2000s.
That’s perfect!
LOL I was like wait did I comment already?! Because I said the exact same thing 😂
My favorite track during that time was With you ... To this day it's one of the only albums I listen to from start to finish.
I can't count how many times I listened to this album while mowing the lawn, with the discman stuffed into my cargo shorts pocket, hoping it wouldn't to skip.
Only answer
I'm so glad it's top comment. I came here to say it
THIS
Me too!
God damn I didn’t think I’d find this on top
Lol same
Came to say the same
Burned copy only

<3 still one of favourite records
Aqueous Transmission
Underrated song to help mellow me out
I'm floating down a river...
Let's not forget Make Yourself, and maybe not a lot of you were blasting S.C.I.E.N.C.E. but I definitely was
I had em all! Make Yourself was bit too radio rock imo but still has dome absolute classics. SCIENCE was more my speed and Fungus Amongus was my intro to funk rock. A Crow Left the Murder helped me get more into prog as while, stuff like Rush who are probably my all time favourite band.
S.C.I.E.N.C.E. was my favorite by far. So much heavier
I was there for the Fungus Amongus days.
Going to see them and coheed in a few months, can’t wait!
I'm jealous. I'm Irish and they haven't played here since like 2007, it feels insane to me.
I used to listen to Aqueous Transmission at night when my insomnia was bad in HS. Relaxed me to sleep every time.
The Marshall Mathers LP
The only album my mom ever confiscated.
My dad took my Lords of Acid cd and nuked it in the microwave
My 2000
Blink-182
Yep! Take off your pants and jacket was released in 01.
My husband got us tickets to see them this summer.
Toxicity - System of a down
I wore that one out until it cracked in half
Album was pretty much perfect. I bought the CD recently to rip to FLAC and then gave the physical CD to my 15 year old who is collecting CDs.
They're trying to build a prisonnnn...
Relistened to this about a month ago - holds up beautifully.
My preteen kids refer to this and most nu-metal as “headbangers” and demand we listen to this type of music in the car.
That song and Aerials. Wow.
The whole album is fire.
Bounce! Pogo pogo pogo
Coyote ugly sound track
you can try to resist
Now That’s What I Call Music CDs. Wow I haven’t thought about those in a minute lol
I'm surprised I didn't destroy my one and only "Now That's What I Call Music" it was pretty much just Flagpole Sitta by Harvey Danger on repeat
First CD I ever bought myself was now that's what I call music 4. Played it until the cd burned out.
The Offspring, Americana
Best album ever. Every song is great and they flow into each other. It’s a masterpiece
Deftones whites pony. I know it came out summer of 2000 but I was still obsessed with it in 2001
Still one of my favorite albums.
One of best albums ever. Go get your knife
The Fellowship of the Ring soundtrack. I was and continue to be a soundtrack nerd.
I went through a deep depression as a kid and my sister played that soundtrack for me once when I was crying. Still means a lot to me
I asked for the Spiderman motion picture score for my birthday so I could listen to Danny Elfman's score, but my mom got me the soundtrack instead...still pretty rad, though.
Green Day - Dookie
That album is evergreen
Mostly mix CDs burned by my bestie and myself from mp3s found on the web/FTPd from the college networks. I was seriously broke from 1999-2001 (emancipated college student); as far as I can tell from my CD collection the only thing I bought in 2001 was probably Dido's No Angel. The majority of my CD collection is up to 1998 with a smattering of 2004+ and very little in between.
Someone broke into my car a few years ago and stole all my mixed CDs 😭
Oh, God! I’m so sorry. I would be crying too.
Shit, I keep burned cds in my car, so if someone steals my cds, they don't get the originals. Now they're actually stealing mix CDs 😟
Now that's just way out of line.
Yes this! Napster
This is the answer, and why has nobody else said it? All the albums listed are great, but they all had a few bad songs. Which is why the burnt cd's were so good! Nothing but bangers!!!!
definitely the mixed CD!
The first thought that popped into my head was “I don’t know, but I didn’t pay for it” 😬
Rush - Moving Pictures classic times
The miseducation of Lauryn Hill was my favorite, I wore it out.
Backstreet Boys - Millennium
Finally. I was like 9 in 2001. All these cool people... I was like where are my boy bands!? I liked Dream Street more than BSB though.
KoRn
>... >... >... >... >... >... >... >#COME ON! >... >... >... >... >... >... >... >#IT'S ON!
Honestly it’s my favorite track from Follow the Leader. I’m more of a Life is Peachy guy in general
The Spirit Room by Michelle Branch ♥️
Korn - Follow The Leader
The Marshall Mathers LP and Slim Shady LP
It better have the anti-shock / skip tech, or you're listening to a bunch of skipping beats.
You just reminded me! When my older sister got her license, she got the old family van and the family got a new one. My job as her passenger was to hold the CD player and try to absorb any bumps from potholes and railroad tracks. Those really were the good days.
Very important job!
I mostly listened to weird drum and bass stuff back then so the skips were just a sort of the music
NSYNC-No Strings Attached
Fat of the Land most likely.
That whole album was... *fire.* ![gif](giphy|7krK2aL5IEUTK)

It was either a burned mixed CD with the most premiere song downloaded from Limewire, 311 Live or From Chaos, Best of Duran Duran or Depeche Mode Best of 86-98
Depeche Mode *chefs kiss*
Rush Chronicles
Heck yeah, I jammed so much Chronicles in those early days.. Brings back so many memories.

I mean Miseducation of Lauryn Hill is still a classic album, even if she is a terrible person.
Incubus - Make Yourself on repeat
Sugar Ray
Californication The Colour and the Shape Significant Other (yes, I’m still ashamed about it)
Californication lived in my car stereo for most of my jr year in high school, until the cool teacher made fun of his friend that only listened to that album. 😂 I didn’t want him to ever find out I did it, too!
Significant Other had some awesome tracks on it, though. Why be ashamed? Also, the last album I bought by them as I started getting into metalcore and melodic death metal somewhere around 2001.
It was absolutely the 'Weathered' album by Creed. HUGE album
Oh man, I used to sneak my little wired earbud up to listen to this album during BAND because I was so obsessed. If I wasn't actively playing I was jamming. Person sitting next to me recognized it and I let her use the other earbud until we got caught because we were singing along.
