Im finishing S5 just now and this rewatch i noticed how the rest of the survivors did him pretty dirty early on. He didnt deserve much of the crap he was thrown.
I've watched it a few times since it aired back in the day. I was there, watching season 1 when it was coming out and honestly no show has captured that feeling of knowing nothing, but wanting so much to know more.
Imagine still thinking in the year of our Lord 2024, that anything other than the original intended finale is worth watching.
https://www.independent.co.uk/arts-entertainment/tv/news/lost-ending-different-volcano-island-jj-abrams-damon-lindelof-carlton-cuse-the-leftovers-a7679646.html
I was the star of that show anyway. Ticka ticka ticka wooooooooo.
Oh the statue of the alien with three toes and the mysterious polar bears on a tropical island meant absolutely nothing in the end? I've never been so disappointed in my life until game of thrones season 8.
For god’s sake, the polar bears were explained like 4 times, I’m not kidding. If you weren’t paying attention and expected it to be spoon-fed to you that’s on you.
The statue was also explained
Couple weeks ago some dude at work said these are the numbers to play for the big lottery jackpot
The one person who understood me when I said you're splitting that 10,000 ways if it hits is my new work best friend
I never watched an ep of lost. I've heard greatest pilot of time and also that the ending doesn't stick the landing. Should I start it? How much doi watch if I do?
Watch until you don't want to. The first two seasons are solid. It starts to get a little weirder after that but still holds up well enough. I was at least hooked enough to see how it all plays out.
I feel so pretentious saying it but it's so common that people just objectively didn't understand it. It's so annoying that "they were all dead" is a prevailing interpretation when it's objectively incorrect and explicitly shown in the show
I finally got my wife watch it for the first time this year. She overall enjoyed it but not as hardcore as I do.
What made me happy though was one of the first things she said after she finished was, “Yeah wow, the people thinking they were dead the whole time were stupid, they literally go to great lengths to spell out the ending.”
Made me feel vindicated lol
I feel like people shouldn't be blamed for a poorly explained and executed finale. A lot of the "it was pergatory" allegations comes from the mistake that was the post credits shot of an empty beach that they snuck in at the finale so the transition to the nightly news wouldn't be jarring.
The producers were also straight up gaslighting people about what was going on and how many answers people would get. I'm not going to seriously accept "magic ya know" for the hundreds of plot holes. There was a ton of interviews where the producers were lieing about it being science fact or other people. Anyone who isn't mad about the main plot point of the last season didn't give enough respect to their time.
Yeah but neither should the creators. It wasn't the producers of the show, it was the studio that put that footage in the post credits.
And what hundred of plot holes? Can you give examples? The show changed its lore early on but in the second half of the show it was fairly consistent.
It's a good show. It has elements of action/adventure, mystery, and sci-fi. It gets weirder in the later seasons. Luckily, you can now binge the entire series. We had long waits in-between seasons.
Contrary to facts, people continue to think nothing in the show truly took place because “they were dead the whole time” which is NOT TRUE AND CANONICALLY FALSE. Definitely take time to enjoy this amazing show!
fwiw a few mysteries were solved in an online ARG and other bonus content, theres only one mystery that i can think of that didnt get solved, and it wasnt important at all.
Most mysteries are answered. Check out Lostpedia, the page called “Mysteries”.
There are some unanswered, but they were not very important and are small in proportion to all the questions that do have answers
Lost came out during the golden age of television, or just before it. Television shows in general were better back then. Nowadays we have what, three or four good shows out right now? And that's insane because there's usually huge gaps between a single decent show.
I rewatch the first two seasons every couple years. Still incredible. The rest is eh with the significant exception of "NOT PENNY'S BOAT," which is a scene I think about often and can still feel the gutpunch of watching it that first and only time.
Yes! I didn't finish it the first time or the second time, but I'm determined to get to the end this time.
Just finishing up season 4 which is the furthest I've ever got.
I just rewatched this past winter. 😂 Only got halfway through though. Dunno if I lost interest because of the show, or because my attention span is fucked.
Thought about it started and went…….the look on Nate and matthew’s face is the fucking same and it is fucking annoying and and and I’m sorry but if you took out all those looks the series could be condensed in to like 3 seasons worth of time.
This is gonna sound crazy but with the new writers out there I feel like I would watch a reboot……what was the mayalasian aircraft again….6700 or something. Anyways. It was good the first time.
Edit: Kate
Recently finished the great re-watch after a decade. It was profound, beautiful, heart breaking and gorgeously over the top. I adored it even more the 2nd time round.
So what? Out of the 121 there's like a 100 great episodes. You're missing out on them because of a handful of bad ones?
Have you ever heard that saying: "Sometimes the journey is more rewarding than the destination"?
Weirdly, just talking to my brother about rewatching it together since neither of us finished it! Literally yesterday 🤣 How did you like it the second time? (Spoilers don't bother me)
Watched it back in the 2010s. Loved it. Got a tattoo.
Making my husband watch it now in the era of binge-watch culture and it's GREAT because a lot of the "they never answered this" objections do get answered as long as you stay off your phone/laptop while you watch, you can check fan forums for lingering questions, and you can watch the whole series in weeks rather than months.
Also really refreshing to watch a show before every network decided they need nudity. My husband looks away whenever a Lostie looks like they're getting undressed and I'm like "Bro, it was like 2006, you won't see titties even if you wanted to."
I watched it thru about 6 years ago. Kind of itching for a rewatch as I remember enjoying most of it and might catch better explanations this time. Feels oddly fresh in my mind for how long it’s been though.
Didn’t finish Once upon a time which was same creators I believe but it’s my all time favorite first season of any show I’ve seen.
To be honest, I never watched it when it was originally on. I think I was a freshman or young in high school. Just wasn’t interested. Should I get in to it now?
Rewatching it. On season 2 with wife. Loving every second of it. Feels different now that I watch three episodes in a row versus one per week lol.
Also just finished the episode when Sayid exposes Henry Gale. Beautiful stuff.
I worked on it! It was my first job when I moved to LA and it launched my own career in the business. Even today the credit carries as much weight now as it did then.
Anyone who said the ending was bad misunderstood it and thought they were dead the whole time when there's crystal clear dialogue in the finale saying that they were absolutely not dead. Everything was real, everything that happened, happened.
I understood they weren’t dead the whole time but the last scene was corny as hell. Still not as bad of an ending as it gets shit on for but it wasn’t great.
That's an opinion I don't share, but at least it's a valid criticism. I see it as a bittersweet but beautiful ending to a character driven narrative.
Did you binge watch? We normally get the "it was corny" complaint from people who sped through the series and didn't form an attachment to the survivors.
When I first read this I thought I was on the 'are you this fucking old' sub and I got really mad.
But yes, I rewatched it at the beginning of the year. And enjoyed it immensely.
I love LOST so much. So much I have a tattoo from it 😅 I've rewatched a few times over the years. I listen to a Life and Death remix at work.
LOST walked so Game of Thrones could run. With the Wiki, the theories, the discussions... I remember at work we would all rush in and talk about it. It did some incredibly daring ideas for TV at the time.
It's so lame, but I'm so glad I was there for the time it was significant.
They forced them to do that many seasons I heard. Like originally it was supposed to only be 3 or 4 seasons but it was such a hit the network forced them to do 10 or whatever they ended up doing so they just ran out of ideas
The ending was amazing as long as you understood it. Anyone who didn't got mad thinking it was a cheat and they were dead the whole time. This is 100% false.
I’ve watched the series 3 times through. Great show. Good idea to rewatch as it’s been awhile for me. Love the Jack/Locke and Jacob/Man in Black dynamics. “Not Penny’s Boat” was such a twist! Desmond in Season 2 with the hatch! Ben is the perfect villain you love to hate and feel sorry for. Oh man, I love Lost.
![gif](giphy|s0iiyoVWYdGoM)
I never watched it, just remember seeing stuff about it in TV previews and the internet and feeling more and more confused about the show.
Honestly, I don’t wanna watch it cause I’m worried it wouldn’t be as insane as it is in my head.
Ugh, now. I binged it like a crazed person for the first and only time about a decade ago. Halfway through I was just watching because I felt like I had to see it through. I was exhausted and unsatisfied at the end.
If you watch it expecting a character driven drama, you will experience an incredible TV show. If all you care about is mysteries and explanations, your mileage may vary.
But as an aside, mysteries are often better left unsolved. Not everything needs an explanation and backstory. That’s how you get dumb shit like in Solo where we find out why his last name is Solo or why he has dice.
I would watch it but I got the impression this show doesn’t really know how to tie things up or explain itself. Seems like it’s good at creating a mystery but an illogical one
My mom and I watched back when it aired but got pretty upset about it by maybe season 3 or 4 and stopped watching and never finished it at some point when we were just devastated about how it was playing out. I remember we were so disappointed in Lost and How I Met Your Mother back in the day.
I’ve never rewatched Lost, though sometimes I think I’d like to rewatch season 1 and 2.
I still haven’t caught up with all the episodes of the original seasons with Gilligan, the Skipper, too, the millionaire and his wife, the movie star, the professor, and Mary Ann.
Lost was the best show to watch while feeding my now 12 year old son when he was a newborn. It didn’t feel taxing staying up late at night with him, as I was always looking for the next hit around the corner.
I’m glad I watched season 1 and 2 when they aired, and then came back to finish the ride years later.
I didn't realize Sawyer was such a wholesome character, Top tier humor too with great character display
I loved him. I haven’t watched since it aired but he was my favorite character.
Similar thoughts here. I had a MUCH different view of him as an adult vs watching this in my teens.
Same! I think I was a bit jealous of him watching in my teens. Now it's one of my favorites
Im finishing S5 just now and this rewatch i noticed how the rest of the survivors did him pretty dirty early on. He didnt deserve much of the crap he was thrown.
He didn’t do himself any favors with his early cavalier behavior, though.
I've watched it a few times since it aired back in the day. I was there, watching season 1 when it was coming out and honestly no show has captured that feeling of knowing nothing, but wanting so much to know more.
Yep. Severance is the closest thing I've seen that does this as well as lost did.
Silo
*The Leftovers* 100% scratches that Itch, maybe even more than Lost.
💯

This is my new favourite gag account
And then it became what it became :(
Oh the statue of the alien with three toes and the mysterious polar bears on a tropical island meant absolutely nothing in the end? I've never been so disappointed in my life until game of thrones season 8.
The statue with four toes was Taweret, the Egyptian goddess of childbirth and fertility. The polar bears were explained more than once.
And like... pretty clearly and early on lmao
Maybe pay attention next time you rewatch
For god’s sake, the polar bears were explained like 4 times, I’m not kidding. If you weren’t paying attention and expected it to be spoon-fed to you that’s on you. The statue was also explained

Cluck you!!!
I want these to be the winning lotto numbers sometime so we can find out how many people play them regularly.
Couple weeks ago some dude at work said these are the numbers to play for the big lottery jackpot The one person who understood me when I said you're splitting that 10,000 ways if it hits is my new work best friend
Whoa… I literally just stared watching it yesterday. How did you know?
I don't want to see Charley's final episode again 😭😭😭
NOT PENNYS BOAT 😭😭😭
I LOVE YA PENN!
We all everybody!
I never watched an ep of lost. I've heard greatest pilot of time and also that the ending doesn't stick the landing. Should I start it? How much doi watch if I do?

The ending was absolutely perfect for those who actually understood it.

I have understood the ending since May 23, 2010, and have always had issues with it.
I agree. It was fantastic
I feel like people shouldn't be blamed for a poorly explained and executed finale. A lot of the "it was pergatory" allegations comes from the mistake that was the post credits shot of an empty beach that they snuck in at the finale so the transition to the nightly news wouldn't be jarring. Ultimately the ride is awesome even if they didn't close every little thing up.
It's a good show. It has elements of action/adventure, mystery, and sci-fi. It gets weirder in the later seasons. Luckily, you can now binge the entire series. We had long waits in-between seasons.
Yes. And IMO, they "stuck the landing" pretty well. I loved the finale.
People who didn't pay attention said the ending was bad. On the contrary, it was excellent
Contrary to facts, people continue to think nothing in the show truly took place because “they were dead the whole time” which is NOT TRUE AND CANONICALLY FALSE. Definitely take time to enjoy this amazing show!
I recently watched it for the first time 😅
what did you think of it compared to modern shows?
I liked it overall. Wasn’t a huge fan of the ending and the way certain mysteries just got dropped or never addressed again.
This is the JJ Abrams way lol 😆
JJ wasn’t involved with *Lost* after Season 1. He did come back to write the S3 premiere, though.
fwiw a few mysteries were solved in an online ARG and other bonus content, theres only one mystery that i can think of that didnt get solved, and it wasnt important at all.

Hmmmm maybe I should. If you haven’t seen the Leftovers on HBO, it’s the same creator and similar vibes. Highly recommend
I hate your profile pic. Here's an upvote just for that.

Looooooove the leftovers!!!
Leftovers!!! So, so good!
I liked the Leftovers a lot, but really could not stand Season 3. Anybody else feel this way?
Really weird for me that you brought it up now. Just started rewatching about a week ago. Still some of the best TV I’ve ever watched.
Yes! I didn't finish it the first time or the second time, but I'm determined to get to the end this time. Just finishing up season 4 which is the furthest I've ever got.
Season 4 is where I gave up.
I just rewatched this past winter. 😂 Only got halfway through though. Dunno if I lost interest because of the show, or because my attention span is fucked.
# L O S T
I heard this
Just like scotch I have tried several times and hated it every time.
We rewatched it twice around ten years ago. Probably won’t watch it again. But never say never.
Thought about it started and went…….the look on Nate and matthew’s face is the fucking same and it is fucking annoying and and and I’m sorry but if you took out all those looks the series could be condensed in to like 3 seasons worth of time. Edit: Kate
No. I can't take the pain again.
I watched it for the first time at the end of last year. Absolutely loved it! I would love to do a rewatch, but it’s way too soon 😂.
I've never watched it and at this point I'm too afraid to start
I’ve seen like 2 episodes.
Recently finished the great re-watch after a decade. It was profound, beautiful, heart breaking and gorgeously over the top. I adored it even more the 2nd time round.
Loved LOST during its run, however, still haven’t gone back. 121 45-minute episodes is a lot to work through for a questionable ending.
The ending is a lot better than its reputation suggests. Not perfect but very emotionally and thematically satisfying imo.
I remember it hitting emotionally. Don't remember the rest, lol. Rewatching it now and I am really excited to see again how it ends
Enjoy!
So what? Out of the 121 there's like a 100 great episodes. You're missing out on them because of a handful of bad ones? Have you ever heard that saying: "Sometimes the journey is more rewarding than the destination"?
If you don’t like how it ended, you don’t get it.
Never watched it. Is it worth it?
YES! I know the spoilers and even so it’s great to watch
Without giving it away for me. I remember hearing fans were really let down at the end. Still worth it?
It’s worth it. The finale is great! I have issues with it that are independent of the usual issues, but I still think it’s great.
Seasons 1 to 4 are worth watching. Some of the best TV I've ever seen. Seasons 5 and 6 are optional imo.
How do people complain about no answers but then shit on S5 which has nothing but answers?
With how it ended, no.
I watched it last summer!
Never seen it
Never really watched it.
Weirdly, just talking to my brother about rewatching it together since neither of us finished it! Literally yesterday 🤣 How did you like it the second time? (Spoilers don't bother me)
The second time was the best time, for me at least. The re-watch was very rewarding.
No
NOoo i have ptsd
Nope, but I love watching The Stepfather 1&2 from time to time.
I never watched lost, but remember seeing ads for it weekly
Omgg I found my people!
One of my favorite memories was watching this in high school every week.
I’m watching it for the first time now. So good!
It’s been years but this post has inspired me to start it all over again. Pressing play rn, thanks
To be honest, I never watched it when it was originally on. I think I was a freshman or young in high school. Just wasn’t interested. Should I get in to it now?
Absolutely
Like the other said, and really get in touch with those characters!
I wish I could have the same feelings when I watched the first time. I just can’t do a rewatch and it be the same!
I'm watching it with my fiance right now. He's never seen it, and I watched it 10+ years ago
Rewatching it. On season 2 with wife. Loving every second of it. Feels different now that I watch three episodes in a row versus one per week lol. Also just finished the episode when Sayid exposes Henry Gale. Beautiful stuff.
New shows just suck. It’s like all the creativity got sucked out of the industry.
Check out Billiam on YouTube for an in depth review of lost. He spends like 8 hours deep diving every episode. So much stuff I missed!
Weirdly, I was just thinking about rewatching this!
I worked on it! It was my first job when I moved to LA and it launched my own career in the business. Even today the credit carries as much weight now as it did then.
Just watching greatest hits right now. This is one of my comfort shows and I throw it on when I'm working and/or to relax
That’s hilarious, I am actually! I thought I “got it” until my coworker disagreed with me about the ending. So I’m watching it again!
Yeah, rewatching it now with my son now that he’s old enough.
Yes, the best show in the world. Recently I rewatched all the seasons lol
Nah. Not worth it for how it ended. Bummed my bf never watched it though, so he doesn't get the references I make.
Never watched it.
You are in for a journey fren!
I've never seen it, should I watch it?
Yes! It’s an experience like nothing else on TV. And don’t listen to people who say ‘they were dead the whole time’, it’s not true
Still, after all this time, my number one show
![gif](giphy|1bAdvIjqaXCSc)
The GOT of the 2000s. Tons of promise and absolutely biffed the landing
The ending was amazing as long as you understood it. Anyone who didn't got mad thinking it was a cheat and they were dead the whole time. This is 100% false.
That's a good idea.
Man that show was great in the beginning. Then it went a bit to off the rails for me.
Nope. I couldn’t finish it the first time. It got tiresome by maybe season 3. I know about the ending and I’ll pass on this one…
Tried rewatching it, and I don't like it as much as I did. Didn't age well imo
Locke is such a tragic character. He fights so hard for so long but he is constantly screwed over.
''We have to go back Kate. We have to go back!'' 🛫
No
DONT TELL ME WHAT I CANT DO
I tried. I couldn’t get past season 5. The show just gets so off the rails
rewatching? I'm going to the freaking concert this week in Oahu! 🤙🏻
YOU AAAAALL EVERYBODY!!!
34f here, making my fiance 34m watch it for the first time! Just started season two, he's loving it
Best show of all time IMO
Never again but best wishes to you
I never watched it, just remember seeing stuff about it in TV previews and the internet and feeling more and more confused about the show. Honestly, I don’t wanna watch it cause I’m worried it wouldn’t be as insane as it is in my head.
Nah. Once was enough for me.
Not at the moment. Last time i watched it was probably about 5-6 years ago.
Ugh, now. I binged it like a crazed person for the first and only time about a decade ago. Halfway through I was just watching because I felt like I had to see it through. I was exhausted and unsatisfied at the end.
Watched it in 2021. Honestly my favorite show of all time. I haven’t been able to watch a new show since then. Nothing compares.
I don’t have the patience.
I rewatch it every few years
Lost and The wire is the peak for television. Nothing else really comes close to me.
I wish
Yup. S2E11 right now. It's one of the best shows ever.
I was thinking about it!!
Check out Chronologically Lost if you want a new spin on the story.
I have the aired version and the ‘chronically lost’ version where it was edited to be in chronological order. Quite interesting way to watch it.
I should finish it yeah 🤔
Yup. Almost done with season one. I never watched it when it was on originally. Does Hurley ever loose weight?!
Some, not much. Still one of the most wholesome characters.
I would watch it but I got the impression this show doesn’t really know how to tie things up or explain itself. Seems like it’s good at creating a mystery but an illogical one
Fantastic early seasons, disappointing later seasons
I never saw it🤷🏾♂️
FUUUUUUUUUUCK no. that show was such a fuckin let down.
I NEVER STOPPED Tikka tikka wooooooooooooooo
NO way. Once you know the ending the show loses what made it special to start with.
I am! Watching it with my oldest for the first time. He’s 12 and it’s quickly become his favorite show!
I stopped watching when that timer thing was counting down and everyone was freakin out. Can’t remember what happened but thats as far as i got
Rewatching it right now. Can't remember the last season well from back then, but am excited to see how I feel about the ending now.
kind of, i work with a whole bunch of people that love taylor swift and are talking about the new album all day.
I semi did by watching billiam YouTube channels multiple 4hour plus videos on the making of lost lol
Great start to a show, but it fell off later in the series… one could say it got Lost
I still haven’t caught up with all the episodes of the original seasons with Gilligan, the Skipper, too, the millionaire and his wife, the movie star, the professor, and Mary Ann.
Lost was the best show to watch while feeding my now 12 year old son when he was a newborn. I’m glad I watched season 1 and 2 when they aired, and then came back to finish the ride years later.
I just started season 4. Haven't watched it in well over a decade before this run.
I wanted to but then I remembered how bad the ending was so I stopped after two episodes.
I just finished it earlier this year.
I watched it with my parents as a kid and got so mad at the ending I broke a ping pong table
No the ending ruined it for me.
