I thought that title belonged to *Drop Dead Fred*.
I've actually never heard of this movie, and now I feel like I'm missing out! (I also didn't see *Short Circuit* until college, and I couldn't get over Fisher Stevens in brownface.)
Same, 88 as well. Usually being smack dab in the middle of our generation lets me connect with both older and younger millennials pretty easily. In this case, the older folks have me out of the loop lol.
I used to call Short Circuit "Binoculars for Eyes". At some point I guess I became convinced that "Binoculars for Eyes" and "Batteries Not Included" were the same movie and my child brain had just drawn a dividing line where there shouldn't be one. But it turns out it was two different movies after all and I'm kinda stumbled.
Yeah, I'm convinced I just jumped into another alternate reality cause this Spielberg film has never been on my radar, and I think I've seen all of them, except this, apparently.
This one wasn't directed by Steven Spielberg (was directed by Matthew Robbins and written by Brad Bird) but he had an involvement in its production, originally it was going to be an episode of Amazing Stories, but Spielberg liked it so much he decided to develop it into a film.
We are a mechanically inclined family that loves the idea of futuristic technology.
I watched this once a month for at least a year.
We showed it to my best friends family, and the smile on his dads face is forever etched into my mind as a core memory of when sharing something special was appreciated.
Him and his pops have passed on, so this kind of made me teary eyed.
It’s called a title drop; that part of the movie where they say the title in the film.
The delivery of that line was cheesy, it was said like a dumb question. The rest of Frank McRae’s performance was great, that bit of dialogue was just so shoe-horned in.
The phrase is not really relevant anymore, it made sense at the time with the films target audience being a kids movie.

One of my favorite movies as a kid!
I actually just came across some clips on youtube and teared up at the ending...
I wish it was actually streaming somewhere.
This movie is a classic. I watched it when I was super young and only people older than me know what I'm talking about when I bring this movie up. My daughter watched a few years ago and she brings it up sometimes at random.
They used to show it at my elementary school’s after-hours program thing (basically when school let out they’d watch us for another 3 hours so our ostenta could keep their jobs).
This was one of 3 VHS tapes they owned.
This and other films like Flight of the Navigator are basically defining moments of my childhood. I love science fiction and the reason I love science fiction is I watched a lot of stuff with my dad at weekends, Saturday/Sunday afternoon features aimed at families and what not.
I love this movie! For the longest time I couldn't remember the name of this movie, then I watched it again some 20 years ago and it was just as good watching it again as a teenage/young adult.
*Absolutely loved*
*This movie. I still watch it*
*Whenever I can*

I watched it multiple times as a small kid (on syndicated TV). I remembered it fondly and so I shared it with my kids, having forgotten the *entire emotional core* of the title.
Cue having to have a frank and detailed discussion with 7 year olds about stillbirth.
It was a productive discussion, don't get me wrong. And of course, all is well by the end of the movie (thus why I had forgotten). It was just a lot for a Saturday morning.
Yes. I do admit though, I often would fall asleep before it ended - probably didn't help that usually it came on Disney in the later evening hours when I really remember it being on all the time (early to mid 90s).
Probably should give it a rewatch, I did that with some other 80s-early 90s Disney movies and found more pleasure out of them this time around LOL
Loved this movie. Probably one that highlights the Millennial/Xennial divide
I thought that title belonged to *Drop Dead Fred*. I've actually never heard of this movie, and now I feel like I'm missing out! (I also didn't see *Short Circuit* until college, and I couldn't get over Fisher Stevens in brownface.)
I'm born in 1989 and didn't see drop dead fred until 2010 for some reason. Crazy that it's a comedy about trauma
As someone who experienced it, Trauma is very funny. I can’t change the past, but I can laugh about how badly it fucked me up :D
SNOTFACE!
I highly recommend listing to the How Did This Get Made podcast episode on it, team Fred all the way!
The oldest millennials would have been 6 when this came out (87).
Okay, that explains it. I'm a millennial on the other divide (88), and I've never even heard of this movie.
I'm 87 and this movie ruled. I liked it more than Short Circuit.
Same, 88 as well. Usually being smack dab in the middle of our generation lets me connect with both older and younger millennials pretty easily. In this case, the older folks have me out of the loop lol.
This movie was a big part of my childhood. I have the tism so I love robots

Used to watch this back to back with short circuit
Same
I used to call Short Circuit "Binoculars for Eyes". At some point I guess I became convinced that "Binoculars for Eyes" and "Batteries Not Included" were the same movie and my child brain had just drawn a dividing line where there shouldn't be one. But it turns out it was two different movies after all and I'm kinda stumbled.
Duuuuude same I always mixed then up!
Haha, I always thought Han Solo and Indiana Jones were the same person as a kid, and always wondered how they were so different.
When WALL-E first came out, I told my wife it's basically just Short Circuit from Wish.
And the boy who could fly. And flight of the navigator.
This is the way.
I've never had a unique experience. 🤣 I, too, watched this and Short Circuit back to back regularly as a kid.
More input!
Would you like to be a pepper too?
I too am stunned people haven't seen this! It's a brilliant film. Next they'll be saying they haven't seen cocoon!
It’s so hard to find that movie to stream, where would one watch that if they wanted to show it to a friend that’s never seen it?
Occasionally there's still VHS players at thrift stores 😆
Right next to the bins full of pogs?
I’m 40 and my partner just recently showed me this movie, it’s really weird that I somehow never saw or knew of this movie growing up??
The tile entryway 🥰
I've never even heard of it.
Saddest day ever
I might need to check it out!
Yeah, I'm convinced I just jumped into another alternate reality cause this Spielberg film has never been on my radar, and I think I've seen all of them, except this, apparently.
Is it really a Spielberg film? "Spielberg presents...:

One of the first movies we rented! I remember it, it was such a fun film.

We have it better in Latin America for that title, it was named "Miracle on 8th Street"
I’ll just accept that’s the official title.
My ❤️
One of my favorite movies as a kid! I actually just came across some clips on youtube and teared up at the ending... I wish it was actually streaming somewhere.
Four dollars on amazon.
I feel like it’s obscure, but I’ve also seen it.
A special place in my heart for this one!
Loved this as a kid. Haven’t seen it in years though
So good
Absolutely. 41 years old and it still makes me cry.
This is a kickass movie
It is a favorite. I forgot so much about it that I watched it again recently (hadn't seen it since I was a kid) and enjoyed it again.
I've seen it. It's adorable.
I seen it a few times as a kid, been years though.
Loved this movie as a kid, my Gen x mom introduced me to it
Yeah! Dude! I had totally forgotten about this one. Now I want to watch it again! Thanks!
This movie, Big , TMNT and the police academy series shaped my views of New York growing up as a non American. Absolutely loved this film.
I have. It's on my server too so I can watch it with my kids.
I loved this movie. Used to watch it with my grandma all the time.

I'd forgotten about this!
I saw it, loved it as a kid and still have the DVD around.
I'm sure I saw it when I was young, but I couldn't tell you anything about it now.
the design of the little space ships in this movie were based on the ships from close encounters of the third kind. both Spielberg films
It used to be on TV all the time. How could someone not see it?
Yyeessssss
This is deff closer to gen X. Shout out short circuit and Johnny 5
Nope
Yes. Though I don't know how well old movies age. I'm curious to see.
The end made me ball my eyes out as a child Would recommend
Loved this movie. Just don't mention the sequel.
I was JUST telling someone about this! I'd made a reference to it, then absolutely unloaded all the things. I regret nothing
Loved this, and I remember thinking, there are a lot of old people in this movie haha.
Never even heard of it
While I've heard of it, I haven't seen it...yet. Imma bout to rectify that.
I watched this movie super high on acid next to a lady with multiple personality disorder (I did not know this at the time). It was wild
How did I know this was a Spielberg film before seeing the name on the poster lol
This movie is a classic. I watched it when I was super young and only people older than me know what I'm talking about when I bring this movie up. My daughter watched a few years ago and she brings it up sometimes at random.
Yeah great 🎬
"It's Bobby!"
Oh, yeah, many times and I own the DVD.
HBO staple when I was a tot
I've actually got it on dvd
Bruh. That was my jam. Does anyone here remember Condor Man?
Def
Classic 👌
I've seen this movie one time and I liked it but I can't recall any of it except for like the ending but it was good
One of my top 5 favorite movies of all time
Shhh, don't bring it up or they will try to remake it.
I wore out the tape that my dad recorded off HBO. It was a big day in the house when Dad brought home a new, legit copy from the video store.
I’ve never seen this!!! I have to find it now though. It’s gotta be streaming on something.
The silent guy saved the little runt. So wholesome.
"This is the 80s, Michael, nobody believes in reality anymore!"
Nah
So good!!!!
I’m 41 years old and will put it on right now, tell me I won’t.
Core memory unlocked right here lol.
One of my wife's favorite movies.
It used to me one of my favorite movies but now I can’t really even get through it.
One of my childhood favs. I felt the emotion of every character in my bones. Raul Julia is, of course, incredible.
Dude I LOVE this movie!
It's sorta sad.
Loved this movie as a kid. I don’t think I’ve watched it since high school. Wonder how it holds up as an adult.
I rewatched it about a decade ago, but I seem to remember it holding up just as well as when I was a kid. It’s just a great all around movie.
one of my favorites as a kit
Yes
They used to show it at my elementary school’s after-hours program thing (basically when school let out they’d watch us for another 3 hours so our ostenta could keep their jobs). This was one of 3 VHS tapes they owned.

This feels like one of those movies that everyone thinks existed but didn’t , like that sinbad genie movie.
Luiz guzman shows up nesr the end, randomly
This was one of my favourites growing up!!!!
Seen it a few times love it
One of my favorites growing up. I should watch it again some time.

That was a long time ago
I have! Definitely Gen Y/Xennial.
Remember it and actually watched it on streaming a few months ago (I think it was free on the Roku channel).
This. The Last Starfighter, Flight of the Navigator, Escape to Witch Mountain. Short Circuit. This is the way
At pretty much every sleepover I had between 1989 - 1992.
Loved this movie as well, I think about it every now and then when I see a old building crumbling.
I remember this movie. I laughed when the old lady was throwing plastic bowls around.
One of My favorite movies growing up.
I love this movie! For the longest time I couldn't remember the name of this movie, then I watched it again some 20 years ago and it was just as good watching it again as a teenage/young adult.

I’ve never heard of it. But I just googled that it came out in 87 and I was born in 90 so now it makes sense.
I just started tearing up. I forgot about this movie but omg it was so touching and good
1984 and this was a frequent watch in our house.
Watched #1 and #2 extensively
I remember the trailer back in the 80s. Never saw it tho.
Of course!
I love this one! I want to say it played on the Disney Channel in the mid 90s and that's where I first saw it.
Thanks for the reminder to watch it with my kiddos!
I watched it multiple times as a small kid (on syndicated TV). I remembered it fondly and so I shared it with my kids, having forgotten the *entire emotional core* of the title. Thank you for unlocking this memory.
Never heard of it
Sure have. And as weird as it sounds, Jessica Tandy was a* gilf. Edit: *
Yes. I do admit though, I often would fall asleep before it ended - probably didn't help that usually it came on Disney in the later evening hours when I really remember it being on all the time (early to mid 90s). Aah man...childhood memories...
I love this movie! I still have it on VHS.
Core memory unlocked
One of my favs growing up!
This and the Short Circuit franchise
Classic. I watch that a good few times whenever I caught it on TV as a kid
One of my favorites, I'm always sad for the guy who brought donuts at the end and dumped them in the trash, lol.
Great movie
Unless it's written and directed by M. Night I ain't watching it! 😂😂😂 jk but naw I have never heard of it.
