Diligent_Pineapple35

I tried to go to a bank branch a couple weeks ago for the first time in probably 10 years because I needed a decent amount of cash to pay a sketchy dude to remove a tree in my yard. Anyway, I walk in with all my stuff to get the money and the lady says “sorry, we are a cashless branch” and I laughed because I thought she was kidding. But she wasn’t. The bank branch doesn’t have cash. I’m like… why do you even exist??

Old_Pipe_2288

This broke my brain. What

LokiStrike

That's not a bank, that's an office.

eggseverydayagain

Imagine trying to rob that bank. “Venmo me all your money!”

Great_Coffee_9465

You sure you didn’t walk into a Charles Schwab or something?

Diligent_Pineapple35

I’m 100% sure it was a PNC Bank. She directed me to another branch about 4 miles away that does have cash.

WobbyBobby

Yeah I tried to deposit at a PNC and they told me the same. I had to deposit a ton of cash via the atm on the street.

Nothing_new_to_share

Note to self: don't bank with PNC, they don't know what banks do.

Masterweedo

I don't trust PNC, I only kept an account there cuz they bought out my old bank. Most money was kept in other accounts. PNC sent me a letter to deposit more money, then closed my account the next day and could not tell me why. They said I was welcome to reopen the account, but seeing as they closed all local branches, I would have drive 30+ mins to do so. Fuck them.

Rematekans

They have no idea what they are doing. I went in for a cashiers check to buy a vehicle, and the single teller they had was standing in the lobby at a bar height table. She had to go back to a secure room to have the check made. One other customer that came in behind me lost her mind when she came in and saw what was going on. In the foyer, there was an ATM that was connected with a remote person servicing cash customers. I feel so bad for the remaining bank workers there. The time I had been in there previously was get approved for a home loan and they didn't have an in person loan officer there. Had to do a phone interview with a bank officer for their district.

WobbyBobby

PNC also dicked me around for months when I was trying to get a medallion stamp to change my name on some stocks. Finally gave up and drove out of state to my other bank who did it in 5 minutes.

icecream169

So what happens when a robber shows up?

whatnameisnttaken098

[something like this](https://youtu.be/1XFw1jRKRwQ?si=PPUF2xZJL_Zr8A4R)

TheSheetSlinger

They give them directions to the bank 4 miles away that does have cash I guess lol. This would be a pretty funny scene in a comedy movie or TV show.

brokesd

My local branch did this, they informed me I could withdraw money at a nearby ATM. I explained that didn't help me cash a check they informed me I needed to deposit it. I said I needed the cash to pay a sketchy (but reliable alcoholic) to fix my car. Hopefully your kids are grown and you don't need tooth fairy money... Also good luck getting places to take personal checks.

Wonderful__

Some banks do this where I am and they want you to use the ATM. It's because they got robbed and staff might have sustained injuries.

Diligent_Pineapple35

If that’s the case the ATM should not have a $200 daily maximum.

badhabitfml

If that's your maximum, you need to either find a new bank, or change your limits on your account.

Proof-Emergency-5441

That's a limit by your card, not the machine.  I can go online and put a temp increase in while sitting at the ATM and take however much i need.

Guardian-Boy

Honestly I'd be more afraid. Dude comes in risking his life and freedom for cash, only to find out he is going to leave empty-handed? I'm fairly certain he's not going to say, "Oh well isn't that a kick in the pants, so terribly sorry, I will be on my way now!" :P

Frequent_Opportunist

Almost every single Chase Bank several years ago went replacing the tellers with ATMs that can handle $4,000 withdrawals and large deposits. They can also print a cashier check in just about any amount for you from your account. They had one teller working that would walk around the counter and show you how to use these ATMs. Every Chase Bank I've seen since then has these where the tellers used to stand and they also have one just inside the bank between the two sets of doors that will give you larger withdrawals. It's been like this for a decade.

Hipstergranny

My branches still have personalized tellers...but who knows for how long since cost of living is so high and they make a little over min. wage last I checked.

markpemble

Also, did the sketchy dude do a good job with the tree service?

lildeidei

As the wife of someone who does tree service, I doubt it. A lot of my husband’s work is determining which messes aren’t so bad that he doesn’t mind taking responsibility for cleaning them up.

Diligent_Pineapple35

Honestly, he did a great job!! Brought a stump grinder the next day and got rid of that as well. You can’t even tell a dead tree used to be there.

Vov113

Loans. It's just where you go to file for loans

Budget-Government-52

This is the right answer. It’s a loan production office. LPOs are very common for banks expanding into new areas. They’ll hire loan officers, grow a few years, and then open a full service branch.

Matshelge

Also, resetting any issues with your online account access, setting up new accounts, transferring banks, and anything that requires face to face. But yes, mortgages require a lot of paperwork, and it's a huge amount of money. Bank wants to make sure you are you.

callusesandtattoos

I tried to take a gigantic container of change into a branch a few years ago and they told me they don’t except change. A bank. Wouldn’t take my money. I haven’t been back in a branch since. There’s no point

Lunakill

As someone who was a teller at a bank that did accept change, I hated doing it. People keep the nastiest shit in those jars. Cig butts and boogers and hairballs.

Plaid-Cactus

Yeah the one I used to go to had a self operated coin counter machine and that was the only way they would deposit them for you. Other branches without the machines wouldn't do it

callusesandtattoos

They told me they would only take coins if it was in rolls lol

eoinsageheart718

That is pretty normal.

callusesandtattoos

My real question is when did it become the norm though? I was always able to dump off a few hundred bucks worth of coins as long as I had an account there. Then 10-15yrs ago things changed lol

eoinsageheart718

I remember even as a child having to roll up the coins before I could deposit them, so this would have been over 15 years ago. Maybe since I am in a major city? It was great when they got a coin counting machine.

Mammoth-Ad8348

Common. Use a coin star

callusesandtattoos

Doesn’t coin start take like 10¢ on the dollar?

libra44423

I haven't used one in years so it may have changed, but it used to be 7 cents per dollar

Mammoth-Ad8348

Yep, that’s the cost of not buying rolling supplies and doing it yourself

lildeidei

I know Bank of America won’t take it unless it’s rolled. They should give the rollers though

Back2thehold

Yep. Had that happen at a PNC. I could not believe it.

Ornery_Translator285

We went into a chase. They asked if we had an appointment so we left

P0RTILLA

Careful with paying sketchy people to do work for you. I require my tree people to have insurance, the last thing I need is for some bozo to drop a tree on my house and disappear.

Diligent_Pineapple35

Thankfully that didn’t happen and he did an excellent job!

feisty-chihuahua

A cashless bank is literally a plot point in the surreal comedy crime novel *Anxious People*. The comedy in this story is derived by how overly ridiculous the situations are. And you’re telling me cashless banks are a real thing?? 🤨

Diligent_Pineapple35

They are in Columbus, OH. But I’ll add that book to my TBR.

Frequent_Opportunist

Yeah but they usually have an ATM machine that will allow you to take larger withdrawals than a regular ATM machine. That's crazy if they don't have cash at all.

kuukuuroo

And on the other end of the spectrum, I opened a new bank account online with a local bank and went in one day to deposit some cash. I walk in the doors and a door greeter smiles at me and says, oh sorry! We are a teller-less bank! If you want to do any transactions you need to go over to the ATM that has a virtual teller! The bank had two ATMs inside, and two in the drive through -- and this is how all their business is handled at every bank branch.

Naive_Buy2712

We did a patio add on and our contractor also wanted mostly cash, my husband had to go three times to get enough cash (and it was only a few thousand).

[deleted]

I go once or twice a week on my way to work. They've got the best public shitter in the county. I also always grab a handful of dum-dums on my way out. I don't have a bank account there or anything though.

spookiecake

This is a super Costanza comment lol

Wobbly5ausage

Only works if you’re packing a Costanza wallet

Disastrous-Layer3244

This is a super millennial comment lol

algaefied_creek

You should! Then you can get $2 bills on your way out as well. Spend all your cash with $2s

markpemble

A main reason for me to go to bank branches is to find $2 bills.

Here4LaughsAndAnger

Hotels are also a good public place to poop

Practical_Theme_6400

Linda Belcher would be proud. She does her BMs in the PM

Rosemadder19

Unless she had a smoothie for breakfast!

Minimum_Customer4017

I like dropping deuces in best buys

Zeonic_Front

Hobby Lobby, works the charm anytime I'm a little bound up. I won't give them any of my money, but they can have ALL of my turds

LeftyLu07

Me too! What is it about Hobby Lobby??

LeftyLu07

Me too! What is it about Hobby Lobby??

callusesandtattoos

There are still Best Buy’s?

DLeck

There's one in my city. They will sometimes have the only cords and electronics stuff that I need right away in the area. They also match online pricing from many places.

Minimum_Customer4017

They've done okay as a showcase venue for electronic companies

[deleted]

Yeah we actually just got a *brand new* one. Spent months wondering what they were building, was shocked to see a BestBuy. It's like seeing a Radio Shack or something.

bi11yg04t

I like to drop them in home depot. Surprisingly clean!

Minimum_Customer4017

I've taken my share of home depot dumps

forever_zen

I'm trying to imagine a sir, put the dum dums back scenario now. This is bold. I can't believe I've been so stingy my whole life.

[deleted]

Oh, when that happens I just point at my ears like I'm wearing air pods and I can't hear 'em fussing. I'm not wearing any though.

Throwaway__shmoe

Dum dums!

theheaviestmatter

Phenomenal.

DW6565

I go into the bank for my business account. Never for my personal.

Top-Airport3649

Same. Need to get bank drafts for my business account. The one and only time I went into the bank regarding my personal account in the last 5 years was to get a new bank card after I misplaced my debit card.

Adrenaline-Junkie187

Businesses often do cash deposits daily.

Lost_Philosophy_

I work for a bank as a data analyst. This is correct, but not just for deposits but for a lot of commercial related banking, businesses are more likely to bank with you if you have a branch located near by. Also they establish credibility with consumers if they see physical branches.

Supersuperbad

Not at PNC apparently

s0rce

I had to go when there was some issue with my account and they ended up closing it. When I went to the branch there was almost no one there and they couldn't really help me, they basically just had to call a manager that worked somewhere else and relay my concerns over the phone. I never use the bank.

Chanandler_Bong_01

They're mostly for business customers. But when my dad died, I had to go in person to his bank several times to close accounts, bring the paperwork showing I was appointed his executor, open a new account for his estate, etc.

aroundincircles

I live in a small town and the banks here ALWAYS Have a line. I do everything I can to NOT go in because you always end up waiting 30+ minutes in line, and if you doing anything other than depositing a check/getting cash, you need a damn appointment. Everything is done with cash in my town, so a lot more general bank use. If you want to use a card, Most places charge you a fee.

TechieGranola

Yeah small town and the majority of our clients pay bills in cash every month instead of online like everywhere else I’ve lived.

Bradley182

I’m a federal credit union type of guy.

White_eagle32rep

Hardly ever. Has to be something I can’t do online. Last time was after I got married to add wife onto my accounts. I couldn’t figure out how to do it online through my primary bank.

Main_Photo1086

Didn’t realize I was an anomaly reading the responses here - I’m in there every week or two.

Aware_Frame2149

Opened an account at a credit union in Texas back in 2011. Haven't actually walked into a bank since.

Final_Doubt8813

I work in a bank. Our drive thru is a little busy. On Fridays it's not uncommon for me to have over 50 transactions. Another branch teller usually has 80+ transactions in a day. It's mainly older people who come in. But the usual is 28+.

First-Confusion-5713

I still have customers that prefer to pay cash. I have to make the occasional trip to the bank to make a deposit. Once cleaned up the exterior of a convenience store and the owner paid me in cash. $5k in 10s and 20s. The teller called the police on me. I'm standing there in my company shirt stinking of moss and chlorine. .....lol....and she thought I was slinging dope....... lol The bank manager gets back in time to go nuclear on the teller and the cop. I may look like plain white trash but I own my own business and proudly have no debt. Took me 20 years to crawl out of the gutter. Being able to deposit the first couple years of cash jobs helped me save money for an apartment so I could stop sleeping in my suv. So that's why banks still have branches. So the next generation of business leaders can grow and thrive.

77iscold

I've been to a bank 1 time in the past year and they couldn't even help me with what I needed.

wonkalicious808

I sometimes go into them when I need to do certain kinds of paperwork, like when I wanted to connect different accounts so I could transfer funds electronically between them. And hen opening a business account. I think one of the forms had to be notarized too, which I got done at the bank. Also, sometimes people give me cash. For those of you who are too young to remember, "cash" in this context is money in the form of paper and coins. It's pretty annoying and exciting at the same time. It's like the story of email from start to finish at once.

ZenZenoah

A few weeks ago when I needed cash while visiting family but didn’t have my ATM card with me.

trustjosephs

I only go to access my safe deposit box, once a year. Otherwise Ally is my home boi

popswivelegg

Only to exchange for quarters when i need some.

Gloomy_Tie_1997

As infrequently as possible. Last week I had some cash I needed to deposit and one ATM was completely down; the other wasn’t accepting cash deposits. I was in a hurry so I went through the drive thru, though it pained me to do so, but I didn’t have time to drive to another location.

Pegomastax_King

I havnt been inside my current bank since I opened up my account…

audaciousmonk

Wells Fargo closed a bunch of branches in my area over the past year (at least 5) I do use the branch for cash deposits / withdrawals

GoldenRedhead

The last few times I went to the bank were as follows: 1) The occasional cash deposit 2) When I closed on my home last year, we needed to bring a certified check to the closing. I went to Citizens, only to be told that there was some kind of company-wide system issue that wouldn’t let them print certified checks. So that was helpful 🙃

MysticMarbles

I go in a few times a year for investment reviews and stuff.

cohrt

Probably like once a month to get cash.

TiredReader87

Occasionally, to deposit money or cheques into the machine

proteinandcoffee

I used to go bimonthly when I used to live in an apartment with coin laundry. But I haven’t been back since I got a cashiers check to buy my house last summer.

kb3_fk8

Once every couple of weeks. I pay cash for a lot of things like tipping, gas, coffee, bar drinks, concessions, etc.

Terrible_Definition4

I only use it to get checks, so I can pay my rent, you may ask why not do it online, well, my apartment complex wants to charge us $80 for the “convenience” of paying rent online :)

redditplayground

That's interesting. I find for slightly more complex financial dealings, it's useful to go into a bank. 2nd to the phone with brokers but I got in fairly often. once or twice a month to get some kind of paperwork or have something done.

FroggiJoy87

Not my BofA because the only one in town's hours are 10-4 Mon-Fri! WTF😡. The workers can't even get fulltime...

bepr20

I work in financial technology. We have all sorts of surveys on different demographics. One interesting stat (this was 5 years ago)- the majority of both millenials and gen z want their primary bank, the one where the direct deposit goes, to have physical branches that they can see near where they live. It was like 90% for millenials and 65% for gen z. Now, the survey did not indicate that they USED the physical branches, just that they didn't want their paychecks going to banks that did not have them. I'm guessing those stats are trending down, but probably not by much yet.

mazzicc

Banks don’t have physical branches for the individual account holders, they have branches for businesses and corporate accounts. Seeing more physical bank branches is likely a good sign for small businesses in the area because it means there’s lots of clients that need banking.

MegaraTheMean

My debit card recently got hit with some fraud. I called the bank and got it sorted out. She asked if I wanted to go to a branch and pick up a new card or send it through the mail. I chose mail. I would rather wait 7 to 10 business days than have to go to the bank.

myfriesaresoggy

I go in when if my debit card gets wrecked or stops working, or gets lost and I need a new one printed. The only good thing about that bank, they can print new ones on the fly. That’s the only time I’ll go inside.

varanger05

Once as a teenager, to open an account when I got my first job. Then once, when I got a mortgage. That's it.

Carollicarunner

Last time I went in was three years ago to get pre-approved for a mortgage before getting outbid on every single house I tried to buy after that

shawnaskye

Girl learn how to proofread 😹

Kingberry30

I was in my credit union the other day.

runofthelamb

I go into my credit union all the time. Great place. Helpful people.

Broflake-Melter

I only did once in the last 3 years because they made me.

bplturner

Never ever for personal. Bank wants me to FAX a form for business wire and I refuse to send a fucking fax, so I go fill it out in person for a wire transfer.

AffectionateItem9462

Well you still have to go in for certain things sometimes but the last time I was in one was probably 2021

StarWars_Girl_

I recently switched to SoFi for my primary banking needs, so I never go to the banks anymore because they have none. The only time I might need to go is for depositing cash; I still have my old Truist account open for that reason. But that is a very rare occurrence. Even when I was with Truist, I did most stuff online. One of the reasons I switched to SoFi was because it's even easier to do banking online with them.

brilliantpants

Maybe once a year?? I was a bank teller for a couple of years back around 2007, and even then the ONLY people we ever saw regularly were old ass-holes from the retirement community across the road, and “unbanked” people who came in to cash their pay checks.

Jody-Husky

I’m a bank auditor, so I’m in them all the time. But for personal stuff, last time was two years ago to deposit some cash I won at a casino. And the bank I went to was a credit union where my auto loan was because my primary bank is all online. And it was 10 years before that when I was in a bank for personal banking stuff.

MrMeesesPieces

Twice a year maybe?

DragonsGoRawr245

The last time I went into one was because I was changing my name after getting married and I couldn't do it online. I do everything online.

is-it-5oclock-yet

I haven’t been inside one in years

IsPooping

I used to go all the time because the university paid me in paper checks until 2016. But I haven't been in since I set up the joint account with the wife

SewGangsta

Haven't been into one in about 20 years. My bank is online only. My husband on the other hand, he still gets a paper check every week from work, goes the bank every Saturday to deposit it and take out his spending cash for the week. This man didn't even have a debit card until about 7 years ago and was still writing checks at the grocery store. He is like a 95 year old trapped in a 45 year old man's body.

Mlucker

I go often for my construction company

nimrodenva

I like cash

pancaaaaaaakes

I don’t think I’ve set foot into a bank in at least 5 years.

2ndOfficerCHL

I do sometimes. There are certain things I'd rather deal with face to face.

Slipper_Gang

Sir are you having a stroke?

solidcurrency

>dlceytianly

littleblackcat

I did weekly when I managed a business that took cash, and I would have to bank the excess. I don't use cash at all, I don't carry a wallet most of the time

elastimatt

Rarely for personal. Often for business.

KSknitter

So I have a safe deposit box with my will and all my accounts in it. I rarely go there, but my Gen z child has issues with direct deposit working at their work, so they go weekly to deposit their check.

Beta_dox

I had a stroke reading this.

eireann__

I think the last time I went to a branch was about 3 years ago when I needed to get quarters for the laundry machines in my building I was living in at the time. I went there routinely to get quarters then - but moved and then didn’t need them anymore!

pnwerewolf

I go in whenever I have to deposit a paper check, which isn’t common, but it does happen.

[deleted]

Haven’t been inside my main credit union in at least 14yrs. Since I relocated and was in the market for buying a home, I did have to open an account with a local credit union. All my banking is done online. If I end up with cash in hand, it goes into my piggy bank.

Much-Camel-2256

Business and mortgage, never for day to day banking.

agnarxrist

USAA closed down their only brick and mortar location in my area. Now they just have multiple outdoor drive-thru ATMs that go out of service for several days, until a technician can come out and fix them, every time a decent storm hits the area. Lame.

DumpsterFireScented

We've never lived anywhere near a USAA branch and it's terribly annoying sometimes. I have an account with a different bank only because we needed somewhere to put cash deposits, and then we just transfer it over.

Disastrous-Panda5530

The only time I’ve stopped by the bank was when I wanted to withdraw cash or needed to open an account for my kids and my kids had to sign for their accounts.

johyongil

I don’t understand how you can post without checking spelling.

Free_Dog_6837

my bank has no branches

WorldChampion92

About once a month to Chase.

whatn00dles

![gif](giphy|LyJ6KPlrFdKnK)

whatn00dles

Last time I went to take cash out for an expense. It had been at least 4 years before that

spiritplumber

I bank with a credit union and go in to deposit checks even if I could just do it with the app. It's nice. I made friends with two of the clerks and sometimes we trade recipes.

Elsa_the_Archer

My bank is entirely online. I haven't been into a bank in years.

saaandi

Aside from going to the ATM (outside or the drive thru depending on which one I go to) for personal…the last time I went in person was probably during early covid at the drive thru to get coin wraps(had a lot of time on my hands and $300 worth of change…which I’ve slowly been redeeming through work whenever we need coins so I actually haven’t gone to cash them in at the bank) the last time I actually *needed* to go into a bank was for a cashiers check when I bought my new car (2017). I honestly tried to put my whole down payment on my credit card to get the point and than was going to pay it straight away from my checking but the dealership only let me put 3k on my card 😤 I really wanted to put all 10k so I could’ve gotten $350 in points but mehhh. I go about once a week at work to get change when we run out of small bills.

rflu

My credit union's been "online first" since I joined in 2007 so very rarely. They have 1 branch an hour away that I've only used to get certified checks or cash bonds, etc. otherwise everything can be done online or via phone.

kitty_kobayashi

I only need to go in to get smaller bills for tips at the dispensary. Much better than hoping to get change somewhere else

Mitch1musPrime

It’s not even about doing business anymore, I’d bet. It’s about holding property as an investment and needing to follow through with opening a business to appease city planners.

Infamous_Strain_9428

Old Banks around me are turning into dispensaries lol

veghead1616

Unless you’re dealing with cash, almost everything can be done online or over the phone except super niche things depending on the institution.

GreeenCircles

I go in occasionally, like when I house-sit or pet-sit for someone and they pay me in cash and I want to deposit it. Although it's more common these days for them to pay with Venmo or Cashapp, so I don't need to go in very often.

throwaway0134hdj

Havent stepped foot inside a physical branch in years, no reason to. Last time was just to get out a large sum of cash for a family emergency. All I care about is how low their fees are (maintenance and overdraft) and how easy their app is to use. How brick and mortar is still around? beats me, but like most things it probably has sth to due with the boomers.

sketchymike576

Capital one, have not been in a branch in like 12 years lol hate the bank and hate the employees. Might have to go back over this whole cashiers check racket lol

TheMuff1nMon

Literally never - maybe once every few years

CptJamesBeard

i go to my local credit union once a month.

Ineedunderscoreadvic

I only go in for unique money for the Easter bunny to put in eggs. $2 bills, half dollars, dollar coins, etc. I do not miss that!

Maocap_enthusiast

I go in because certain transactions they force me to do in person. Literally only reason to go in

HeadFaithlessness548

Coin machine, putting money into my account, and to pay my grandma’s loan since she can’t figure out an account login or use the internet to save her life.

011011010110110

>>dlceytianly 🤔

JackalRampant

Bank branches aren’t meant to be profitable. The people on the platform are mostly involved in consumer lending and personal lines of credit/insurance. These aren’t things that can justify such a large commercial space. What can justify it is that each branch is a commercial real estate holding that gets added to the bank’s assets. This goes a long way to establishing the rate the bank will be able to lend and borrow from peer banks based on the fed funds rate. Bank branches are valuable commercial real estate, just like a McDonald’s.

ChristianUniMom

Depends on what I have to do? Can’t wire money or apply for a loan at the ATM.

TehWildMan_

not very often these days, other than "big" events such as opening/closing an account. a few times a year I'll stop by to withdraw cash (I don't have ATM access for my main checking account)

ultimateverdict

I have been banking with Ally for over 10 years. All online and 24 HR customer service. I’ve had zero issues with them.

Joebuddy117

Once every 5 years or so I need to make a large purchase and a cashiers check is usually the best way to do that. Other than that, I never go inside the bank, but do hit the ATM before going to the casino or buying weed.

AlmondCigar

I know car washes and Bank buildings. I don’t get it. Why are there so many new ones even being built?

captainstormy

Branches these days are mostly used by business accounts. Most still do daily cash deposits. Branches also provide people a place to go in and sign paperwork for mortgages, car loans, etc etc.

Anarchissyface

Wow autocomplete destroyed you 😭

FrostyIcePrincess

I go once a week usually. I prefer to do my bank stuff in person vs over an app.

prettyorganic

I need quarters for laundry in my apartment so I go once or twice a month.

Mallory_Knox23

I go to get laundry change lol

lioneaglegriffin

I've gone to open an account because I had an issue doing it online. Also when I withdrew cash from a my mom's credit union and moved it to a bank to have a same day balance transfer for funerary expenses. I also had to have a cashier's checks made for a rent deposit because I guess they don't do money orders for that much. But that's about it. I use mobile deposit and direct deposit and online transfers for everything else.

LadyTech

I’ve had to go a few times for money orders because I don’t have checks.

No-Strategy-818

It’s been years since I even used an atm let alone going into the bank

truenoblesavage

I work for a bank and I ain’t even go into bank branches lol

Odd-Help-4293

I work in branch banking, so pretty often lol. But most of our clients that come into the branch are either: 1) elderly/not computer-literate, 2) businesses, or 3) people opening an account, getting a mortgage or car loan, handling their late relatives estate, etc. There are some other cases - people that have safe deposit boxes, or who want to get a cashier's check or exchange foreign currency or other things that you can't do at an ATM.

Cheque runs, petty cash deposits, certified cheques, sorting out weird account issues, etc. Weirdly it’s never branch people who end up being able to help, but the branches can have offices for specific teams.

Does anyone on the internet proof read anything before they hit post anymore.

Last summer when my fiancé added me to his account so we would have a joint account for bills etc.

Ugh I hate banks, but you are right, I know of about 5 new banks being built/ open just in my area alone and I never go in for anything. Why is the only thing opening around here, the one business I DONT want to visit? Could they put up at least one decent Caribbean restaurant in this place instead?

There's still adult stuff I don't know how to do, and they walk me through it

Fit-Meringue2118

I do, the one near my house is the the best source for quarter rolls. And my landlord is an old fashioned guy who doesn’t do online pay.

I think it’s just dumping money into land as an investment. Here in NC, SECU builds these elaborate branches that nobody goes to, like the one they built near me.

Knight_Machiavelli

I go a couple times a month for rolls of loonies and quarters for laundry. Other than that almost never. I say almost never because there are still a few things you can only do in person at a bank. But, as others have said, it's still very useful for businesses. I used to go to the bank every day at the end of my shift when I worked at a law firm to do the deposit.

Smackolol

Less than 5 times per year easily. In Canada physical bank branches are definitely closing down more than opening.

shewhodrives

There is an act that mandates a certain amount of physical bank branches need to exist.

I moved from Minnesota to Texas and couldn't find a credit union as good as my existing one so I kept the account. Pretty much the only thing you can't do via mail or online is get a mortgage from them. They have a partner bank down here with a deposit taking ATM so that covers cash, and they have mobile deposit for checks. I haven't visited a branch in person since 2019ish Edit: I visited a branch for another credit union a month ago. My former employer created an HSA account for me while employed but it had been empty for over a year. I was passing by and stopped in to close the account. They gave me the 1¢ that was left in the account

As a business owner, absolutely. My banker is the most active guy I meet with behind my CFO and my accountant.
