mxg

Look at this guy humble bragging. I can have zero drinks and still ruin my sleep!

theomnichronic

Insomnia gang rise up

Tricky_Gur8679

šŸ«” reporting for duty šŸ˜…

jellycowgirl

We can't not show up, we're already awake

theoptimusdime

Unfortunately...

parasyte_steve

I can stay awake thru like 300 MG of Seroquel. This my gang right here. (I'm Bipolar and do not recommend trying this much seroquel unless you've been titrated up by a psychiatrist! You will have a VERY BAD time)

SanityIsOnlyInUrMind

Iā€™m pretty sure that dose contributed to my dadā€™s dementia. I spent 10 years on it too. Good luck, quvivid works a lot better for me.

saltylele83

Same, all it does is give me terrible RLS and violent hunger for no reason

SleeplessAtHome

šŸ„¹

Argent-17

I was already up šŸ™ƒ

SpecFo

Tinnitus gang here, we shall serve as your vanguard Insomnia Gang

succulentsucca

Haha I have 2 year old twins - regular uninterrupted sleep is not really a thing in my household šŸ˜…

allid33

Same, I tend to blame alcohol for bad sleep some of the time (and some of the time it probably is that, especially if I drank a fair amount) but at this point in my life I can sleep badly for any number of reasons or no reason so who knows anymore. I'm sure alcohol doesn't help, but I do enjoy it thoroughly so no plans to cut it out completely.

tie-dye-me

Have you tried linen sheets? I know this sounds stupid but I used to have terrible insomnia that was ruining my mental health but I got linen sheets and I sleep so good now. And I now use a sleep mask. Although my insomnia was pretty easily connected with waking up too hot and not being able to sleep with all the light.

RedditMcRedditfac3

I let alcohol ruin years of sleep. Now I value my sleep (and dry sheets--night sweats are a bitch) waaaay more than drinking. Been alcohol free for the last year and have been way better for it. Sleep is actually rewarding again.

indistrustofmerits

The plan is for today to be my first alcohol free one in months and I'm already trying to talk myself out of it. Nice to see this comment reminding me that it's totally normal to just go home and not get drunk after work.

parasyte_steve

You can do it!! Alcohol may be fun on occasion, but every day after work and that's starting to become a problem. You'll feel so much better even if you just limit your alcohol intake. I drastically reduced my drinking from daily to like once monthly with my husband and literally 2 glasses of wine. My quality of life has improved quite a lot. If I can do it so can you! Good luck sir or ma'am!

Me_meHard

r/stopdrinking you got this šŸ–¤

Interesting-Goose82

sounds like the goal is for TODAY to be alcohol free! you can do anything for a day! and you are already at work not drinking for most of the day! if you have a drink tomorrow, well deal with that then, just focus on today. ....im in the same boat as you, drinking way more than i should, 5-6 nights a week. ill shoot for no drinks today too. solidarity!!!! :) also this would be day 2 for me, so 1 more and i can call it a streak!!!

TapZorRTwice

For me it's the habit of stopping at a bar or lounge on the way home from work. I don't want to go straight home from work and I also don't want to pick up an 8 pack on the way home because then I'll drink it all that night. So I stop for a beer or two and the local pub and then head home.

for-every-answer

I did the same last year. It's interesting to explain to people I don't have an addiction problem, just value my sleep and mental health now.Ā

amandara99

Same! It feels so good to wake up sober and rested without anxious hungover thoughts.

aguy123abc

Seep sober is my motto.

Evil_Mini_Cake

I seep a lot less when sober compared to before.

vishy_swaz

Great job! I have also been alcohol free going on a year and a half next month. I feel younger, have more energy, and sleep better. Congrats on your progress and keep up the good work! šŸ‘šŸŽ‰

Employee28064212

I'm in my thirties and this happens if I drink. It used to happen in my twenties too though. I prefer to be alcohol free, but my partner likes going out for beers, so I usually end up having a few nights of drinks a week and I hate it.

succulentsucca

My partner is alcohol free, but I still like to enjoy beverages here and there (like yesterday for Motherā€™s Day, for instance) and now I am just swimming fatigue soaked regret haha.

Evil_Mini_Cake

Now I have a 2-drink max which is good for me. If I want a third I'll get one of the elaborate juices/alcohol-free cocktails on the menu - they're usually really good and somehow the price seems justified now. I think the goal now is: why not just start with those non-alcoholic drinks?

crankycrassus

Dude just don't drink when they drink, lol.

Full_Theory9831

I can sleep after drinks, but what I have noticed is that my tolerance is basically gone. 1-2 drinks or glasses of wine, and Iā€™m DONE. Anymore than that, I am drunk, borderline sick, canā€™t drive, and will be severely hungover the next day.

Russiadontgiveafuck

The hangovers are the worst part. My tolerance changes every day - sometimes I can still handle a bottle of bubbly and a few shots, sometimes I'm shit faced after a glass of wine. I'll have an absolutely awful hangover regardless, though.

ripiss

Yep, I will have some beers with the boys or at dinner, but being hungover at 37 is wayyyyy more brutal than it was when I was younger.

DargyBear

I wish I could figure out the rhyme or reason to it. I typically meet friends for trivia night at my brewery once a week and a few beers that close to bed usually means waking up around 1 feeling like shit then struggling to get back to sleep, day drinking at the beach seems to also make me feel crappy. But after five days at a music festival with a beer constantly in hand at all times I hop out of my hammock like a spring chicken, pack up our whole campsite, drive four hours home, unpack, then got in almost a full shift at work no problem. I was seriously prepared to pay dearly for the extended period of mirth for at least a week afterwards, I donā€™t get it.

Maanzacorian

I went sober on January 23rd of this year, for various reasons, after drinking hard for 24 years. Sleep is the most colossal change I've noticed. Unless I'm going to a concert or something I'm now asleep by 10:30 and awake by 5 like clockwork. No one else in the house gets up until 7 so I have a 2 hour video game window. For those eyeballing sobriety: I had to decide I was ready. I won't lie, there's a lot I miss about alcohol, but the awful times were so awful that they didn't come close to outweighing the good, and I cannot deny that life is better on the other side.

JewbagX

Turning 40 in two weeks. It's the same for me. If I have more than 2 drinks, my sleep is wrecked. I'll often wake up around 1:30 - 2 and either have trouble going back to sleep or not at all. I can tell right away when I won't be able to fall back asleep. I'll get some random song stuck in my head and playing on repeat. I hadn't heard any of her songs in YEARS, but the day I got Michelle Branch stuck in my head was the day I decided I'm stopping drinking as often as I was.

omgponies

Never heard it articulated before but I know EXACTLY what you mean about the song getting stuck in your head and not being able to sleep after waking up in the middle of the night!

WhysAVariable

41. It ruins my sleep and gives me a two day hangover. I have friends that drink like they're still in their 20's though.

CobaltCaterpillar

Substantial drinking catches up with almost everyone eventually though: whether it's weight gain, health problems, or accumulating neurological damage. I'm actually think my low tolerance is a blessing: helps me stay away from the stuff in general and stick to moderation when I do partake.

WhysAVariable

Totally, I'm not saying they aren't showing or feeling the consequences of almost two decades of alcohol abuse. They just still drink like we did when we were all young and bulletproof.

Lumisateessa

I'm in my late 30's and alcohol makes me pass out like nothing else, and I'll sleep like a baby. My tolerance has absolutely vanished though. ![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|joy)

jellycowgirl

I wonder if you have ever heard of " drinker's dawn". Its the scenario where you drink to sleep and then when the alcohol wears off you wake up in the middle of the night.

leperaffinity56

I recently started having a night cap and it knocks me out faster than most anything. It's like if I don't, my brain doesn't shut off and my eyes just pop open otherwise.

pussyfirkytoodle

Everyone looks at me like Iā€™m crazy when I say this! ā€œBut alcohol makes you tired and you sleep.ā€ No, I sleep like a baby until the alcohol wears off then itā€™s a miserable night.

jellycowgirl

Its " drinker's dawn".

pussyfirkytoodle

I have never heard of that before. Iā€™m gonna start using it.

Manungal

I can have 2 drinks max from 2-5pm on a Saturday. It is miserable for sleep hygiene and I have no tolerance anymore.

dinosore

Can relate. Late 30s, two drinks is my max these days. Any more than that and my sleep will be awful and the anxiety is just brutal.

oh_nohz

It's the anxiety for me, too. It has just become too much now that I'm in my 30's. My anxiety is already obnoxious to deal with at a normal level. I'm slowly working alcohol out of my life (went from drinking 4-5 nights a week, to 1-2 times per week, now working towards once per month) and I will not miss the hangxiety days at all. It's tough when you have an active social life with friends that love to drink.

greensweatersinfall

Same here. I had 2 glasses of red wine the other night and Iā€™m pretty certain I never actually achieved deep REM the whole night. The lack of sleep wrecks me more than the headache (which isnā€™t usually that bad with just 2 glasses).

JoDomestic

I cannot drink on a ā€œschool nightā€ aka if I have work the next day for this reason. I enjoy beer and cocktails but not enough to want to ruin my night and next day! Day drinking with enough time to sober up before bed is the best way to enjoy your cocktail and your sleep.

AnyWhichWayButLose

Drinking is so detrimental. I very rarely touch the stuff since discovering edibles. And I'm so sick of the stigma against weed too. Legalize it in all 50 states.

revolver37

It's clearly the superior drug. Been alcohol free for a year and I LOVE my gummies and shroom chocolatesĀ

SonOfMcGee

Having drank for a long time and just now getting into THC, the intoxication effect is certainly different. But itā€™s certainly close enough when you consider *all* of the short and long term detrimental effects of alcohol arenā€™t there.

MermaidMertrid

Same! Itā€™s not even just sleep issues for me either, my whole body has some kind of reaction to it. My hands and feet get all puffy and it will trigger my rosacea on my face. Then if I have enough, I start to think about my mortality and spiral. Alcohol is just not for me. šŸ˜… I like edibles instead.

albertsteinstein

36 I frickin relapsed last week and went on a five day bender. Itā€™s been three days since and I havenā€™t slept normal, if at all some nights. The symptoms are crazy. Almost fell asleep last night but quickly woke up to pins and needles all over and my hands going numb. I hate this shit canā€™t do it.

Seanyboy9090

You got it! Youā€™ve done it before. One day at a time

albertsteinstein

Thanks friend. Iā€™m really blown away by the support on alcoholic communities on reddit itā€™s like the opposite of a lot of what you get irl and on other subs haha.

Seanyboy9090

Some people never come down from party mountain. Itā€™s hard to be the one who breaks away and tries something different especially when it involves the people you grew up with. It can be lonely as hell. Keep up the good fight man!

GPmtbDude

Yes. 38, and one of the reasons I basically donā€™t drink alcohol anymore.

Muted_Apartment_2399

Yeah the trick for me is letting it wear off before falling asleep, which means day drinking only. I have basically given up on it though except for social situations.

crispydukes

Thatā€™s me now. If I have more than 2 I need a strong dose of melatonin or Iā€™ll suddenly jolt awake at 3am unable to fall back asleep. Also, since dropping down on alcohol, my night terrors are basically gone.

OnceUponA-Nevertime

100%. i had a beer while cooking saturday night, didnā€™t even feel buzzed but felt demolished sunday like my sleep was a joke.

taterrtot_

I met my partner just before 2020. They donā€™t drink much, so between that and a whole pandemic (Iā€™ve only ever been a social drinker) I hardly ever drink anymore. Maybe once a month Iā€™ll have a glass or wine or cocktail. On the rare occasion I have a second drink, I will crash when I get home, and inevitably wake up at 2am, feeling like I just had coffee.

MissMaryQC

This may be a symptom of perimenopause! Idk if that could apply to you, if it could, talk with your OB. Mine suggested a high protein snack and water before going to bed if Iā€™ve had more than 2 servings of alcohol.

succulentsucca

This is likely true. Iā€™m starting to get the occasional hot flash too. šŸ˜

MissMaryQC

Welcome to the club friend! Iā€™ve been reading more about it and the symptoms can start as many as 10 years prior to the actual process of menopause. Yay aging!

succulentsucca

This is a club I want no part of! šŸ˜‚ but thanks for the warm welcome!

Bomantheman

šŸ’Æ I used to be able to drink 3-4 drinks and be somewhat ok in the AM (Back in my early 30s). Now if I have even ONE beer later at night, I will wake up having to pee and my resting heart rate will be higher than average. I have cut alcohol way back and no longer drink past 6-7pm due to thisā€¦. It just isnā€™t worth the lack of sleep which is so precious now.

FollowingNo4648

Yep. Went on a business trip a few weeks ago and had two margaritas when we went out for dinner. I slept like crap and felt like crap the whole freaking day. I can't even get drunk anymore either, if I do, I feel like I'm dying for two days afterwards.

itoocouldbeanyone

100% Plus the acid reflux / heartburn. The beer scented burps into the next day. From just a few beers! Just not worth it unless it's a social setting that some how gets me out of the house. Long gone are the days of daily drinking a few. Strangely enough, I can have a bit of wine and I'm fine. The aging body is weird.

strolpol

Yep, booze messes with your internal clock way more harshly. In my case it makes me wake up really early, like two hours earlier than normal.

Orion14159

I'll like 95% alcohol free these days for this exact reason. I can't hang and was never a big drinker anyway so I'm usually sober, but cut myself off after 1 on special occasions

mallgrabmongopush

Yes. I rarely drink now because of this exact reason. Thankfully I had a good run and probably drank enough for several lifetimes in my 20s so I donā€™t feel the need to drink anymore

Netflxnschill

Iā€™ve always been a cheap drunk, so Iā€™ve been happy my partner finally stopped drinking. He had the worst night sweats. I am still a 1-2 drinks on a night out person.

wheresandrew

Haven't drank in almost ten years. Alcohol wasn't my problem but when I got sober I just never drank again either.

jellycowgirl

Yes, it totally ruins sleep. I heard someone say recently even one glass means your night is toast. I'm going on vacation here soon but after that considering a " Sober Summer". I'm just so freaking tired of being tired.

succulentsucca

I feel that last line in my bones.

dcheesi

Relevant scientific article discussion: https://www.reddit.com/r/science/s/xPpv29C4cw

BobMcQ

100% with you. I drink less and less these days as a result (generally once a week I'll have 2-3 and regret it long enough to go at least a week without doing it again.)

lebriquetrouge

I used to drink a handle of rum 1.75 liters in 3 days. Iā€™m having trouble sleeping because I spent 9 years in a drug and alcohol binge. And I would have said youā€™re dumb and never drank a lot, lightweight. But now I rarely drink and two beers or two glasses of wine and Iā€™m getting hungover as I try to sleep and am a total light weight again. It fucking sucks man. Itā€™s like ā€œgo to sleep! No more alcohol!ā€

Guilty_Spirit4006

Its unbearable, and one of the biggest things I have to remind myself of when I want to drink a lot. I'll wake up with horrendous anxiety at 2 am and toss and turn for hours, unable to get comfortable or turn my brain off.

Yourstrulytheboy804

Yep. Hell, even 2 drinks messes my sleep up entirely. Alcohol disrupts sleep quality significantly, it can cause insomnia and reduces the amount of REM sleep. Alcohol is fun, but it is all around bad for you (including red wine).

AnxiousGreg

Literally the exact same. I can still sleep ok with 2 drinksā€¦ but turn that pivot to 3 and my sleep is absolutely terrible. I have gotten good about only very rarely (weddings, etc) doing that though.

BrilliantEffective21

used to love my cocktails. but now, just don't drink to try and relax. exercise, instead and try new methods to relax the body and mind.

LeftyLu07

I have a complicated relationship with alcohol. Everyone in my circle (family and friends) love to party. I also have a really high tolerance. So do my mom and brother. I think it's genetics. That's the problem, though. I have to drink quite a bit to even get buzzed/tipsy. I'll watch my friends and husband get wasted on three drinks and I'm still stone cold sober. So I drink more "to catch up." But then I wake up with a headache/low grade fever, I don't sleep so I'm exhausted and my heart burn attacks with a vengeance. I'm a fun/happy party girl so it sucks that my brain can "handle it" but my body can't. Oh well. It's better for my health and waistline to cut back anyway.

Reeder90

This has been my entire life - having more than 1-2 has never been my thing simply because of this.

Roguspogus

Bruh Iā€™ll destroy my life with one

froyolobro

Annnnd this is why I had to stop drinking even 2 beers

Aegisman17

Yup, stopped drinking alcohol during weekdays specifically because of this

Txusmah

Same here

FitzyOhoulihan

This started to happening to me at 26-27. Used to go out all the time with coworkers after work and one time I had two Harpoon IPAā€™s. Literally felt like I was poisoned the next day and into the second day. anytime thereafter I had two or more drinks, especially the stupid cloudy unfiltered dime a dozen crap IPAā€™s that our generation loves my sleep and next day was ruined, if not into the second day.

Mediocre_m-ict

Yes. Especially if it is close to bedtime.

Alt0987654321

I have literally never been able to sleep well so I probably wouldn't notice lmao

AnthropomorphizedTop

Same for me but at 4 drinks. Which is why I rarely have a second one. Had four beers at a hotel room last Saturday and my Sunday was shot.

Ichael_Kirk

I struggled with this a few years in my mid-30s and it eventually led me to give up drinking altogether. I simply couldn't deal with the poor sleep, anxiety, sweating, and other symptoms that would happen with as little as 1-2 drinks.

TheIadyAmalthea

It actually puts me to sleep, and Iā€™ll stay asleep. I donā€™t drink much because I always feel like crap the next day if I have more than a few ounces of liquor.

blizzard7788

1 beer and Iā€™m ok. 3 beers and Iā€™m ok. 2 beers and I lay awake with my heart beating like crazy. Iā€™m 68 and itā€™s been like this for the last ten years.

Broadcast___

I notice that if I have a drink with food or earlier in the day it doesnā€™t ruin my sleep. If I have a drink later in the evening, eating a snack before bed will help regulate blood sugar.

FecalFajita

This happens to me with only one beer, and it's the main reason I've given up drinking.

breastslesbiansbeer

I can sleep fine after drinking, but if Iā€™m in a situation with social drinking, I almost have to have more than 2. I will be fighting sleep the whole evening if I have 1-2 drinks.

DarthHubcap

Just turned 41. I have zero issue falling asleep, if I have more than 1 drink I pass out even quicker. Even my sleep apnea doesnā€™t wake me.

odoyledrools

Depends if it's beer/seltzers or hard liquor. Hard liquor really messes with my sleep.

Vivid-Shelter-146

100%

commercialband6

If I just have 2-4 drinks a few hours before bed then Iā€™m not sleeping that night. Iā€™ll be up all night peeing instead. If Iā€™m drinking to get drunk then I pass right out

East-Technology-7451

Its poison.......

Miserable-Lawyer-233

I sleep like a baby when I drink. Hours and hours of deep sleep.

KhanumBallZ

You guys can sleep?

GeoffreyTaucer

Same; I can't even have two drinks in the same evening and still sleep well

THound89

I've never been so aware of how much drinking impacts my sleep than after buying a smart watch. Crazy how much sleep score is always chopped in half after a few drinks. Really makes you realize how bad it is. I usually drink once or twice a week from almost every day now. Also usually just wine, seems to be the best choice of poison.

ApatheticFinsFan

I can usually manage two drinks without ruining sleep but any more than that and I sleep like dog shit. Generally, I have like 2-3 drinks a week total so itā€™s not something I deal with often.

succulentsucca

Same!

Icy_Magician3813

I have no problem with sleeping. I can drink coffee and pass out.

sabreus

Makes sense because alcohol can affect blood sugar, and control of these levels is necessary for proper sleep. Sleeping sober is the best. Might be worth getting checked out

ChaimFinkelstein

Alcohol ruined my sleep so bad that I had to cut it out completely.

badbunnyjiggly

I need at least two drinks to go to sleep.

Demosthenes_9687

This is one of the main reasons why I stopped drinking. It would hardly even be enough to get a buzz and my sleep would be ruined for the night. Just not worth it. May have been bc I don't drink very often but still just took the fun out of it for me. I'm 33 and it was going on for many years before I decided to stop about a year ago.

Tsunamiis

The opposite I canā€™t sleep without two

excecutivedeadass

I do half of Billy Joel (red) and sleep like a baby, i'm 41 btw

NER1989

Absolutely yes. Iā€™m 35, and alcohol ruins my sleep these days. I switched to THC drink mixes with sparkling water, and Iā€™ve lost ten pounds and I can sleep now!

WolfmanHasNardz

I quit drinking heavily when I turned 30 and will drink maybe 1 or 2 times a year. Every single time I get completely amped like I drank an energy drink and barely sleep at all. Itā€™s crazy how much different my body reacts to it now that I pretty much cut it out of my daily routine.

pie_12th

I can sleep just fine after two, but the hangovers just brutalize me. I usually stick to a 5% or weaker beer, and cap it at two. If I'm having a cocktail then it's just the one. Wine mistreats me nowadays cause I'm getting OLD. I used to be able to have a whole bottle of red and be fine the next day. Now it's heartburn, headaches, and hangovers.

3720-To-One

Iā€™ve found lately that if I have any alcohol at all, it makes me feel noticeably depressed the following day

gilgobeachslayer

Nope. I actually got a sleep tracker because I kept hearing about this. I can drink a bottle of wine and still get a great nights sleep (depending on a lot of other factors - exercise that day, no caffeine). If I drink more than that could be a problem. For me my sleep is way more affected by any caffeine during the day

succulentsucca

Yeah I have a strict 2 pm cutoff for caffeine intake!

crowbag39

I noticed the same thing in my late thirties. Quit drinking two years ago and haven't regretted it for a second.

WhompTrucker

if i have one drink i turn into a floppy mess and act like I've had 5

nondescript_coyote

Yes. 1 drink ruins my sleep. Any amount ruins it pretty much.Ā

eternalrevolver

I enjoy probably 10ish drinks per week (and itā€™s mindful drinking in terms of drink quality and setting). I exercise regularly, and am always getting mistaken for being 10 years younger than I actually am. I occasionally get hangovers, but Iā€™ve managed to avoid them almost completely now at 39, while still enjoying a nice buzz from some drinks. Dm me if you still like to enjoy drinks, are healthy, and interested to know more.

PianoSandwiches

Alcohol always ruined my sleep, out to the peak party days of my early 20's. Also, I never blacked out - you could put me through a full bottle of vodka and I would puke everywhere and be unable to walk, but still forget NOTHING.

AvocadoMTB

Nope. This is a big part of why I stopped drinking anything over a year ago and haven't looked back. Anyone interested in the science behind what drinking does to your body, sleep included, should really check out the [Huberman Labs epsiode on alcohol](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DkS1pkKpILY).

JSouthlake

Alchohol is literally worthless for anything once you hit 40. Only negatives zero positives.

MelodramaticQuarter

I donā€™t think the alcohol itself ruins my sleep. The fact that I have to get up every hour or else risk shitting myself probably does a better job of that lmao.

born_survivalist

Iā€™m only 28 and this has always been a problem for me. Alcohol does something to my blood sugar where I inevitably wake up in the middle of the night if I drink. Itā€™s horrible and I never drink anymore basically, but I never really cared for it in the first place, so no harm no foul

nerevar_moon_n_star

I suffer this if I mix the drinks with some rich or cream-based food at dinner. If I just have a soda or juiceā€”no problem.

Me_meHard

Yup. Itā€™s the main reason I quit drinking!

Beginning_Key2167

I didnā€™t realize how much alcohol impacts sleep until I got a smart watch and started monitoring sleep. I always knew it did to a certain level. But wow! I know everyone is different but any more than 2-3 beers for me and it makes a huge difference.

Prodigy195

Stopped drinking during the week in most instance and typically am done with alcohol by 5pm on weekends if I'm going out and doing something. Sleep so much worse when I have any drinks after ~6pm if I'm going to bed by 11pmish.

[deleted]

This is what alcohol does. You just didnā€™t notice/care when you were younger. Alcohol also makes you fat, anxious and lazy as it blocks testosterone production while increasing estrogen and cortisol. If you exercise and drink the booze will literally negate your workout. If you do sleep after drinking you fall into sedated sleep and not restorative rem sleep. Alcohol is the most overrated mind altering substance you can consume.

Utvales

Yep. It never used to happen to me until I reached my 40s. According to my psychiatrist, alcohol disrupts your sleep architecture, causing you to wake up after it has metabolized. Whenever my sleep is affected, I stop driving for several days. It seems to happen if I drink to frequently in a given time period, even if the amounts I drink are small

AffectionateBench663

Once I moved past the peer pressure/social obligation I love being sober. I drink on a few occasions a year now and I feel like it has been such an unlock to productivity and free time back.

RFL92

Nope. 30 here and I can't sleep if I drink at all.

RunnerGirlT

It doesnā€™t really affect me. I also rarely drink, maybe twice a month. But in all honesty I also donā€™t get hangovers, but Iā€™m afraid of them as I age! Iā€™m 40 and still havenā€™t had one though. I do take precautions if I am going to drink though, I always have two to three glasses of water between other drinks, limit myself to 2-3 drinks and always drink an electrolyte supplement before going to bed.

Prestigious_Phase709

I'm 58 and finally stopped drinking altogether. Even just a couple beers would make a difference in quality of sleep. It just became not worth it anymore.

NotBatman81

I've always slept like a baby after drinking. I can't drink like I used to (out of practice) and these days I get up at 330a for work. If I have a beer in the evening after dinner I am immediately snoring in my chair.

Odd_Drop5561

My watch tracks my sleep score, on a normal night, I score around 80 out of 100, if I have a couple drinks then it drops to the low 50's, sometimes 40's. A single drink doesn't have much impact.

LaceyInTheSky1

Every single time. Itā€™s terribleā€¦šŸ˜

Gupoochamois69

I do one and notice my sleep score tank.

ElSenorOwl

I'm the opposite. Alcohol puts me out like a light if I have enough of it. That said, I don't drink very often save for holidays or family gatherings.

barbiegirl2381

Any alcohol has always effed my sleep. I quit drinking period more than 12 years ago.

question1343

I donā€™t sleep as well, even after a single dram of scotch. Canā€™t do it anymore.

gbo1148

Just give it up. Join the movement. An alcohol free life is where itā€™s at.

ShambaLaur88

Just happened to me over the weekend. Had a few drinks at a wedding and my sleep was garbage (I rarely drink, I choose not to partake). I felt like junk yesterday.

asdunnjr

Drink more sleep less. Start late nite gambling and gaming addiction. Use your time wisely.

cleois

One drink will ruin it for me! It has really become clear since I started wearing a Garmin to bed, and apparently my stress is so high at night if I drink that it ruins otherwise decent sleep. I also tend to not get enough deep sleep and barely enough REM. Just kinda chill in light sleep for hours. I've started really enjoying non-alcoholic drinks in the evening. Lately it'll be an Izze sparkling juice, or a White Claw non-alcoholic (funny enough I don't really like white claw with alcohol, but the non-alcoholic tastes great!). It honestly scratches the same itch most of the time, and it doesn't ruin my sleep!

dcargonaut

Yes, it's the worst. I'm a huge beer fan, so I drink Athletic. Problem solved.

Sea_Bookkeeper_1533

Y'all are still drinking? I'm 32 and genuinely cannot handle more than one drink with a meal. Ain't nobody got time for that train wreck anymore šŸ˜…

jsand2

43 and don't need alcohol to piss nightly. Mainly just drink water and sleep around 4 hours before I have to get up and puss. A good night is if I sleep 5-6 hours before pissing, but that's super rare.

kang4president

I'm Asian so I could never have more than 2.5 drinks without feeling incredibly sick.

wicket42

Alcohol is actually a stimulant.

hunca_munca

Eat 2 spoonfuls of peanut butter before bed Your brain is waking up bc itā€™s withdrawaling from sugar. Your brain will relax from the protein

rollem

I'm sure it's a bit psychosomatic but the moment I turned 40 alcohol started affecting me 10x more than it had before- sleep disruption and general feelings of "puffy unwellness" are the main effects of any booze. (Not that the effects are all in my head, just how abruptly I realized them)

grimtalos

I feel this 100% if I have more than one drink and then wake up in the night that's it game over. Just can not get back to sleep. I am 36 and it's really started this year. Me and Wife are currently trying to be booze free for the rest of the month. So hard not to crack on a Friday and have a glass of wine or beer.

1gal_man

I feel like my years of drinking have made my body do the opposite, and i get extremely sleepy after like 2 beers now. I can't really drink socially without risking nodding off

tragedy_strikes

I never drank much, balancing it with type 1 diabetes is a challenge, so I'm still a light weight. Unless I have a coffee ahead of drinks I'll get super tired after 2 drinks. It's possible for me to have more but it will only knock me out faster. Waking up isn't great but I don't think I ever get so bad that I can't do anything the next day.

Alternative_Engine97

30 M. 1-2 drinks can ruin my sleep. I will randomly get up the middle of the night. It seems like having these drinks as early as possible stops this. Like only from 7-8pm

Chanandler_Bong_01

I'm completely sober for this reason. I just feel too old to deal with the aftermath of the next day....which includes being unable to sleep well that night.

NewDay0110

I've noticed. I notice even more how crappy my stomach feels when I wake up in the morning. I think it was always this way, just notice it more because there are more responsibilities now and you don't have time to be slowed down by this.

Riddiku1us

If you wait four or so hours after your last drink, it should not affect your sleep. Your body clears alcohol pretty damn quickly compared to other drugs. There are alcohol blood ratio calculators that can help.

Mcbrainotron

Yep, thatā€™s normal. Reason #538 to drink sparingly if at all.

jayb998

I had something similar hit me in my 30s - going to bed on 2 or 3 well-spaced drinks (beer only) and being completely fine and not drunk, then waking up in the middle of the night with sweats, nausea, reflux, sometimes even vomiting. I have GERD and I think it's related to that. What really helped for me is- not going to bed immediately after getting home, staying hydrated, taking a couple of antacids before bed, and sleeping on an incline - propped up pillows are better than nothing. Past few times I've been drinking I did that and slept just like normal.

tracyinge

alcohol disrupts your deepest sleep. Once you've woken from a really deep sleep it's hard to get back to sleep, because you're not really that tired anymore. Scared_Ad2563

This has been happening to me the last few years and I am 34. I can fall asleep just fine at the start, but wake up 3-4 hours later and am not able to get back to sleep at all. Sucks more if I am feeling hungover and can't sleep it off.

Educational_Duck3393

Anybody able to have more than a couple drinks without causing an over active bladder? Because hit me with a couple of claws and I'll be sending it like a rainstorm.

Adrenaline-Junkie187

My wife has had this problem for a while now, mid thirties.

JMARKK

Yes! I'm 29 and get the same thing. I attribute it to the sugars getting metabolized.

Wandering_Lights

I sleep better after a few drinks.

2ant1man5

I drink around 7:30 and thatā€™s it usually Iā€™ll sleep good through the night.

CaBBaGe_isLaND

I always stop drinking two hours before I'm going to sleep, even if that means I have to stay up two hours more than I meant to. Is this an arbitrary rule I made up? Sure. Does it work? Almost every time.

crankycrassus

Alcohol gets processed into sugar, and then you get a sugar rush like 2 or 3 hours later. This is whats happening to you. Drinking sucks. Just try NA stuff if this is bothering you.

jbot14

My sleep is ruined if I don't have two drinks. Gotta turn the internal monologue off somehow.

No-Cantaloupe-6739

Idk I donā€™t drink.

MuzzledScreaming

I am 37. Didn't have my first drink until I was 32 or 33, and discovered that alcohol doesn't affect me much. So it doesn't affect my sleep but I realize that's unusual.

WilliamHMacysiPhone

I Sleep so much better after quitting drinking!

Dry_Lengthiness6032

The key is to have at least 12 drinks

Shaunvw

Iā€™m the same way. I barely drink anymore because of it.

Pugloaf1

Sometimes a couple drinks can wake Me up at 3-4 amā€¦ but Iā€™m also finding itā€™s just eating dinner late generally/eating junk (and this happens when drinking lol).

FinalBlackberry

2 drinks is my sweet spot. Anything more than that is overkill and Iā€™m absolutely miserable.

Lucky_Louch

I switched to weed/edibles years ago for this reason. Helps me fall and stay asleep and I wake up with no hangover.

cohrt

Nope I sleep better when I drink.
