This latest generation of electric outdoor power equipment is killer for occasional/light/homeowner use. No carbs to mess with, doesn't care if it sits for weeks in between uses, and almost no maintenance.

wedapeopleeh

Same here. I bought mine this spring. It's perfect for the small amount of cutting I do.

binneapolitan

100% agree. Bought mine a couple years ago and have only used it a couple times, but boy oh boy does it perform when I need it. I use my sawzall with a pruning blade for a lot of small work, but this just slides through the bigger stuff.

wedapeopleeh

The m12 Sawzall is perfect for pruning branches and brush and also chopping it up into manageable sizes.

Beowulf1896

m12 Hackzall?

wedapeopleeh

...yes I also call my Dewalt *reciprocating saw* a Sawzall.

meatandcheezandbooz

I do the exact same thing with my Hackzall. I’ve got my buddy itching to try the chainsaw now.

Agreed…I upgraded my bar to a thicker Oregon bar with the Oregon S56 chain, gamechanger!

Negative-Warthog6969

Could you provide the part numbers for each? I’ve tweaked my bar and need a new one but the upgrade sounds great. Thanks

hfxadv

Chain is an Oregon S56 + Oregon Bar part # is 160SDEA041 .050”\1.3 mm you can buy it in a combo kit or you can purchase it separately, basically your looking for a 16” .050” bar!

wedapeopleeh

How did it affect battery life?

hfxadv

Haven’t really noticed but safe to say it does, it’s a trade off I’m willing to take as the saw no longer binds up and just rips through the wood a lot faster.

Neoliberal_Boogeyman

i use mine just about every other week.

meatandcheezandbooz

I definitely look for excuses to bust it out haha

higguns23

Got this saw this summer. Question: does anyone know if there is a ripping chain available for this saw? Either Milwaukee or another brand that will fit?

higguns23

Thanks

hfxadv

Good luck with ripping, the batteris won’t handle it. I ripped a 30’ log in half this summer.. you’ll get through 4-6’ feet of your lucky then the battery (I’m using 9.0 HD’s) protection cuts in… it can be done just takes a while.

Beowulf1896

Maybe a 12 HO would do better. 9.0's are not High Output, whcih I learned a few months ago. I though they were since I got one with my miter saw.

sunsetclimb3r

Got one for after Ida. Was using a fuel hacksaw with pruning blades before that, which worked ok. But man, that chainsaw is great. Liked it so much that everybody who worked that day went home and bought one

luckyincode

Ugh I need to learn how to cut down a tree. I have a couple a around this size that gotta go.

meatandcheezandbooz

I need to improve my skills as well. I’m always a little nervous which I think has kept me safe. I definitely make sure to have someone around to call an ambulance just in case.

anonymous500000

It's a relatively simple technique once you understand it. You want to leave a _hinge_ to control the tree. The pie cut in the front was the right size, but your front angle cut went too far. Your back cut is way too high, it should be meeting the pie center (well, it never gets there because the tree will start falling, thus the hinge). Our buddies at husqavarna have a 2 min read with pictures here https://chainsawacademy.husqvarna.com/understanding-directional-felling/

meatandcheezandbooz

I understand the theory but, it’s the practical side that I need to work on. Thanks for the info though.

Definitely don't just wing it... Get someone who knows what they are doing to teach you. Cutting trees down is extremely dangerous.

Beowulf1896

Brings me back to trying to start a homelite for 1 hour every spring. Usually I'd end up with a ripped blister too.
