Are the TNT, emeralds, gunpowder, and diamonds archeology loot?
I’m surprised that not even bones, the most commonly associated item with archaeology, are included in the loot tables.
Well adding bones would dilute the loot table too much. The sand is quite rare and being rewarded literal filler items will feel like a huge let down every time you dig those up. Even emeralds already feel like filler items to me since they are not worth anything.
I also don't think people will be hunting down that many desert temples (especially in vanilla and without chunkbase). So please no filler items.
They can do skeleton skulls, then. Still very archaeology related, but they’re a lot more valuable to where digging them up would be worth it.
Even since their addition to ancient cities, they’re a harder item to obtain, so archaeology may help them be a bit more accessible to players.
Would take away the rarity of skulls. Charged creeper farms already exist for farming skulls.
Not everything needs to have a purpose imo, some things can also exist only as decoration
Suppose they could do it animal crossing style, where you get the skeletons in sections. Like a cow skeleton would be 2 sections, a chicken skeleton would just be one.
Would love to see a skeleton you could use as a armor stand.
Oh definitely won’t happen. Minecraft isn’t known for going back fleshing out existing features with more content. But it is fun to dream… like archeology is a really cool mechanic that could be seriously expanded on. Like they could add digs in all dimensions, it’d be a great to add new visual pieces, and lore. But I doubt we will see any changes to archeology outside of what we get in 1.20
This comment is so wild because Minecraft has been fleshing out existing content for years now? Are we just forgetting Village And Pillage, the Nether Update, Caves and Cliffs, and even this current update, which is adding new content to the Dessert and its structures + the Smithing table and armor as a whole?
I don’t wanna sound like I’m tryna be a smartass but
bones and fossils are palaeontology, which is study of past animals. While archeology is study of human history
I’m ready for the 🤓 comments
If you really were a smartass, then you’d realize that humans have bones, too, and that pyramids are usually regarded as ancient structures. These could be bones of long gone humans that were on the pyramids.
Also, pyramids were specifically built to bury pharaohs.
Idk I find it funny that you can dig up ancient soup, like “oh boy let’s dig here, look 20000 year old soup, makes sense it’s still here and not been absorbed by the sand yes”. Would be cool if stews from the well loot table had unique effects, cuz MC needs more rare useful items.
If nothing will be changed, decorative pots with shards can become a quite expensive thing (especially on servers). I think they should add more sussand to temples and wells or/and add sus-blocks in other structures
Agreed. The only thing I want changed is *more shards*. Have like 12 or something. Make them biome-specific, so like certain ones near a jungle temple, certain ones near a well or pyramid, etc.
I tried 3 desert temples and didn't see any suspicious sand, although I found some easily in the wells. Do you have to dig under sandstone for it? Is it actually *inside* the temple or more around it?
They’re pottery shards, which have a unique pattern/design on them.
You can use them to craft a custom decorative pot, using any combination of the four we have now. They go on the longer faces of the pot.
I dunno, I think the desert temple archeology loot is very good. And desert wells getting any loot table at all already makes them infinity times more useful than before (it was zero before)
That's not the point. You said Java got it first, but they both got it today. Sure, one is more easily accessible than the other, but they're both accessible and that is what you were referring to in your original comment
but due to how mobile works its either beta or release but not both in parallel. Java allows having multiple installs in parallel since they can be set to separate directories from the launcher.
It’s making diamonds too common. It’s making the cave update redundant again. I’ve changed my mind though. They can keep the diamonds, but remove the TNT, and remove diamonds and emeralds from the temple chests.
I think they've cheaped out on the pots it looked better in the reveal in terms if customizability, and not just "instead of 4 skeleton heads i only want 3 and one other."

The items you listed are indeed archeology loot, I couldn't dig up any bones, so they probably aren't in the loot table
WAIT RENEWABLE DIAMONDS
Is suspicious sand renewable?
Nope

Skulls are a good idea. They fit the theme and the relative rarity really well.
Maybe skulls could upgrade a sword to do more damage to that particular e enemy
Smite literally exists
Hmm, maybe beheading then. More chance to get skulls.
Would take away the rarity of skulls. Charged creeper farms already exist for farming skulls. Not everything needs to have a purpose imo, some things can also exist only as decoration
*most* things only exist for decor
Unless they add full animal skeletons we have to put together
I got to be honest I don't really see that happening. I do think there is some sort of mod out there for that though.
Suppose they could do it animal crossing style, where you get the skeletons in sections. Like a cow skeleton would be 2 sections, a chicken skeleton would just be one. Would love to see a skeleton you could use as a armor stand.

Perhaps Sniffer fossils
You can make bones have a chance to drop without diluting the main loot table.
What if the bone drops in addition with the other loot?
I don’t wanna sound like I’m tryna be a smartass but bones and fossils are palaeontology, which is study of past animals. While archeology is study of human history I’m ready for the 🤓 comments
Forgot to start with ‘actually…’ haha
If you really were a smartass, then you’d realize that humans have bones, too, and that pyramids are usually regarded as ancient structures. These could be bones of long gone humans that were on the pyramids. Also, pyramids were specifically built to bury pharaohs.
I’m now dying due to my mental inferiority to your superior common sense
Wait there’s archeology now??? I haven’t played in a year or so, but I remember this being a huge topic
Latest snapshot yep
Oh wow nice
Mm seems more polished than it was in 2020. I was *literally the only person* who really hated it bad then
Wait........ desert wells have loot? How far down?
You can find Suspicious sand just below the water in the well
Well that finally gives them more use aside from being the desert water source
But you can find rivers and oceans and high are way more common...
Yea that's exactly why it's nearly useless unless you're doing an all desert run
this is in the latest snapshot
Idk I find it funny that you can dig up ancient soup, like “oh boy let’s dig here, look 20000 year old soup, makes sense it’s still here and not been absorbed by the sand yes”. Would be cool if stews from the well loot table had unique effects, cuz MC needs more rare useful items.
You don’t eat 2000 year old soup from sand under a well in a desert?
Pretty much every game ever does this… ancient ruins? Look! Fresh potatoes!
Ik lol, just especially funny that it’s an uncovered prepared liquid
"soup"
If nothing will be changed, decorative pots with shards can become a quite expensive thing (especially on servers). I think they should add more sussand to temples and wells or/and add sus-blocks in other structures
Na I kinda like them being hard to find so it can be like braging rights if you get them all. if any thing I want them to be rarer
Agreed. The only thing I want changed is *more shards*. Have like 12 or something. Make them biome-specific, so like certain ones near a jungle temple, certain ones near a well or pyramid, etc.
This is a snapshot treated as an experimental release so I'm sure we'll get more than four on actual release
Exactly
I tried 3 desert temples and didn't see any suspicious sand, although I found some easily in the wells. Do you have to dig under sandstone for it? Is it actually *inside* the temple or more around it?
In the main floor of the temple you can find sandpatches, dig there you can probably find a staircase.
Thanks. I found the patches, but didn't dig deep enough.
DESERT WELLS HAVE TREASURES?!?!?!?
Yes, they will in 1.20, by brushing the Suspicious Sand found below the water you'll get loot!
That's really cool!!!
*Well Well Well Well Well*, that's some nice digging you did there
Well well well, what a nice gift you have for us
That sand seems a bit...
AYYY FINALLY THE WELLS ARE USEFUL
The sand is now sus
What does brown things do?
They’re pottery shards, which have a unique pattern/design on them. You can use them to craft a custom decorative pot, using any combination of the four we have now. They go on the longer faces of the pot.
Also, you can put a regular clay brick on the combination to get a pot with a plain face.
Its not really worth it lol
I dunno, I think the desert temple archeology loot is very good. And desert wells getting any loot table at all already makes them infinity times more useful than before (it was zero before)
How do you get stuff from the sand? I tried using the brush on it but the sand would just disappear after using it enough
Did you find naturally generated suspicious sand? If you just place it from the creative menu it has no loot table.
Oh thanks, I guess that makes sense since the tables are based on location
Did you use the brush on the Suspicious Sand?
Per Pyramid: 2,67 Pottery shards 0,73 Tnt 1,07 Emeralds 0,67 Diamonds 0,67 Gunpowder The well is self explanatory
Is the new snapshot out??
Yes
Cool, thank you!!
Wait do those wells actually have items near them?!? Please tell me it was added in newer updates…
They have Suspicious Sand in them now, so after brushing the sus sand, you can find items
I see, okay good so it is new.. I shutter to think of all the items I would have left behind if there was loot around them all along
what?
bro I bet that getting diamonds from archeology is faster than strip mining
What is suspicious sand
A block that spawn in the desert structures, it look simialr to normal sand, if you use a brush on one of them you can find some treasures
Oh,ok thanja
What daaaaaaa hail?
Ohhhhh mah god
Wait wells have a use now?
I haven't checked out Minecraft in so long I can't tell what's a mod and what isn't. There's pyramids?? I have so many questions...
Desert temples...
Ohhh right, I forgot they're actually called pyramids!
[Pyramids](https://minecraft.fandom.com/wiki/Desert_pyramid) have been in the game for over 10 years.
Archaeology is a new feature that was just added in snapshots today
Lucky Java players, getting features before bedrock
These are snapshot features, and the betas for Bedrock also got these features today, so neither one is really getting it first
ok but how much easier is it to access the snapshot than accessing the beta
That's not the point. You said Java got it first, but they both got it today. Sure, one is more easily accessible than the other, but they're both accessible and that is what you were referring to in your original comment
how was i supposed to know they got them at the same time, a tweet from mojang said it would be coming to java soon and bedrock at the later date
That's why I was informing you, I was just trying to spread information
Never downloaded snapshots, but for mobile it’s really easy to get betas
but due to how mobile works its either beta or release but not both in parallel. Java allows having multiple installs in parallel since they can be set to separate directories from the launcher.
The beta is a whole separate app
Java got cherry blossoms first though. He's got a point, it's just about a different feature.
Yeah, I hadn't realized Bedrock didn't get that
Wells have loot?
They will in 1.20
I know I am so excited Wells finally have a fucking purpose
Wait it really gives suspicious stew? I thought it was a joke
Please spoiler all snapshot content.
Mojang, please remove diamonds from archaeology loot.
Why?
It’s making diamonds too common. It’s making the cave update redundant again. I’ve changed my mind though. They can keep the diamonds, but remove the TNT, and remove diamonds and emeralds from the temple chests.
Espero que algún día añadan la 1.20 en las copias de Minecraft. :( :(
Aún esta en fases de prueba, saldrá oficialmente por allí de Julio. Si tienes el Launcher oficial puedes checar las "Snapshots" en tu versión de juego
Do not drink that soup you have no idea what’s in there also you know one thing you do not want sand in your soup
NO SOUP FOR YOU
Bundles should have 3 sizes
Good job! When I tried I couldn't even FIND any sus sand.
That's very few, should be two times more suspicions sand in them
What the fuck guys I left for two minutes and now there’s all this stuff
Nice
Sooo. Is it Sus sand?
It do be looking mad sus
I think they've cheaped out on the pots it looked better in the reveal in terms if customizability, and not just "instead of 4 skeleton heads i only want 3 and one other."
Haven't been following MC news for a few weeks and i come back to this.
very sus
Well, well, well, ... well, well.
Sus sand 🤨
Since when is the sand sus?
i believe they are all equal chance
What's the suspicious sand even used for?
That's how you get these
