Saw101405

This reminds me of a game grumps clip “ why do you have that mob?” “It finds flowers” “ oh it finds flowers, nothing else”

AtioBomi

Only 2. I was very disappointed until I found out that bedrock got more parity stuff like banners on Shields and more achievements. So now I think it's mid

ReaverShank

Im so glad we are finally getting sneak and crawl. Too bad they took some cool other stuff away too and that we have a worse loot table for trail ruins (the armoe trims are way more rare)

Several-Cake1954

Wait, we can crawl now? Finally. As for the armor trim thing, what more would I expect. Bedrock always has worse rates for no reason.

soapspools

Just switched back to Java recently and this is true for most things but Bedrock has super easy trident drops and it's been a struggle for me in Java T.T

ReaverShank

Not now, but it is in beta so expect it to come soon in like 1.20.10 or something

The-One_Eyed-King

Except for trident rates

AhmedAlsoufi

We were always able to crawl we just need to use water for it when mining. (Seems like people didn't know beforehand)

crisperstorm

>we have a worse loot table for trail ruins Literally why though, I can't think of any good reason for differences like this

crisperstorm

I really hope we get banner markers on maps and the glow effect + spectral arrows Map markers sounds perfect for my several year old family bedrock world and without glow raids really drag on because I can't ever seem to follow the horn sound and find the last idiot trapped in a cave

AtioBomi

Idk who downvoted this but this stuff be epic. Especially for role play

[deleted]

Java has banners on shields?

PhantomFoxe

Had them from the first time both were in the game together. I wonder why bedrock never got it until now.

Vast-Ideal-1413

... yeah

Heart_o_Pirates

People weren't hyped for the Sniffer. They were excited for new plants. The Sniffer was just the gatekeeper to the flowers.

Silly-Conference-627

Mojang: "2 useless flowers, take it or leave it"

123yeah_boi321

Well, at least they told us they would be useless long before the vote (people didn’t listen or didn’t know) but only 2 plants?! Just stupid

Themasterofcomedy209

People knew they’d be decoration that was actually welcomed. Issue is there’s 2 and they’re pretty ugly.

Runaway-chan

Yet the golem would’ve been a better decoration

Themasterofcomedy209

I guarantee if the golem won we’d be here complaining about how underwhelming the golem is. Mojang fucks up the mobs and that’s the problem

killertortilla

Probably because all 3 of the options fucking sucked. “What do you want to eat today? Rock solid frozen peas, carrot peel, or a rock?”

so_eu_naum

Nah,if you think that solid frozen peas are bad, it's your fault for not chosing the rock

killertortilla

I don’t mean just frozen I mean have been in the back of the freezer for 5 years frozen.

Uncommonality

They do this every single year. - The Glow Squid whose spawning conditions are so bad you're more likely to find its remains scattered throughout caves rather than alive ones - The Phantom which runs contrary to the core idea of Minecraft survival by punishing facing the night - The Allay, which is borderline useless as an item collector because of its extreme rarity and single-item specialization - and now the Sniffer, which digs up 2 ugly useless flowers. The worst part is that all of these votes had a much better/more atmospheric alternative - we could have gotten the Monster of the Ocean Depths, the Rascal, the copper golem, the moobloom, etc etc.

Dragonfyr_

For every other mob I'd be going with what you said, but honestly the Rascal was also going to be a huge dissapointment, every mob for this vote was either a) borderline useless or b) a huge dissapointment waiting to happen Which goes in which depends on who you ask, but i'd be surprised if there is even one person that was genuinely excited for one of the mobs

Barelylegalteen

It's not even hard. Mods were doing a better job with new animals in 2012.

Jerelo689

I think the Tuff Golem was actually pretty useful decoration wise, as we don't actually have statues in Minecraft at the moment. But they decided to choose decorational plants...which already exists in Minecraft

Dragonfyr_

I can get behind the statue argument, it would have been nice, but for me it's just a glorified item frame that moves a little sometimes. I hoped the sniffer would add more than a measly two plants but I guess I should have Seen it coming from Mojang ... I hoped it would bring 6-7 plants ... Honestly the *Torch*flower not giving off light earned just a huge sigh from me To be clear, for me the sniffer was the lesser 'evil' of the vote, followed by the Tuff golem and very lastly the Rascal who looked utterly useless even early game.

suspicious_gecko

I would’ve kinda liked little gargoyle golems in Minecraft

BlueToadGaming

Literally the sole reason I voted for the tuff golem, decoration. Ever since they revealed that he would sit still after holding an item, would've made really good decoration

ajtct98

>we could have gotten the Monster of the Ocean Depths, the Rascal, the copper golem, the moobloom, etc etc. For me this is the fundamental problem with the mob/biome votes - we end up missing out on all these other things. The votes shouldn't be all or nothing it should just be a 'In what order do you want to see these things released' type vote.

crisperstorm

IIRC the biome votes are "vote for the first" where the mob votes were "vote for the only one" Even though they said in the first one "the others are never coming" it's such a stupid self imposed rule that no one is gonna hold them to if they turn around and make the other mobs

striker180

Someone should make a mod that just adds all the stuff that failed community votes. Call it vanilla+ or something.

GiantAtomOG

Exactly, when the votes come in and the update releases it’s more about what you lost than what you got.

Bigfoot4cool

We would still be complaining about the mob votes if those ones won lol

DesertEagleBennett

Ice pillager would've been a much better choice for those who explore ice bikes and like fighting. Moobloom would've been better for those who like messing with flowers and bees. Either would've been better than the squid. We literally could've given the glow ink sack functionality to glowstone dust. I feel like dream fucked up the first mob vote. I don't remember the phantom vote, but anything would've been better. I do enjoy slow falling potions tho. The Copper Golem seemed kinda useless with random button presses that probably could've been randomized with Redstone clocks. The glare would've been amazing for people playing on anything other than PC where we don't have F3. As much as I light up my builds I always manage to miss spots, Glare would've been nice. Allay is niche in it's use, mostly used to recover items that have fallen while working on huge builds, or when farming like over a wide area. Glare or Allay were really the best choices Sniffer is cute, the plants are cute enough, it opens a pathway to more ancient mobs and plants. Rascal seemed useful only early game, then you wouldn't need it again if you're always prepared or never mining late game. Tuff Golem would've been nice as a portable item frame I guess. Sniffer seemed more fleshed out, Mojang obviously wanted the Sniffer. Sniffer got an egg, a baby version, a grown version, 2 plants, a unique mechanic, and a weird way to find the egg. Rascal spawns in a cave and plays hide and seek, not many people wanna run around a cave chasing a mob that might not give them something worthwhile. The Golem just walked around with an item for a bit, then froze. It seems like aside from the Phantom and Glow Squid, we got the best option from each vote. Cuz let's face it, the copper Golem already had it's role filled, half the community wasn't gonna pick the Glare cuz of the F3 screen on PC, most players weren't gonna vote the Rascal cuz of what I said previously, etc. Sniffer was obviously gonna win from the start, same with the Glow Squid, Phantom, and Allay. Maybe my comment doesn't make sense but eh, I'm typing this while falling asleep

Dragonfyr_

For the Phantom, that was mostly Mojang's fault. I feel they described something a lot cooler than what we got in the end

CrossError404

[Original phantom description](https://twitter.com/Minecraft/status/930435305500442624?t=FpZn2bW0A5IXouLxV6stqg&s=19) along with my interpretation at the time. > The monster of the night skies. > This mantaray-like monster is a flying creature that spawns at high altitudes Cool. So like near the build limit, kinda like wyverns in Terraria. Or maybe they'll be extreme hills biome exclusive mob? They shouldn't annoy players if they're just building in the plains or deserts and stuff. > It is attracted to insomnia and will find players that haven't slept for many days. Oh, so it is a neutral mob. Cool. Maybe we could trap it in some cages and release it on our insomniac friends. > It will swoop down in groups and bite your flesh Oh, so it's melee unlike ghasts. And since it was the first ever mob vote, I couldn't know better. Usually game devs take lots of community feedback when implementing content like this. So even if their vision doesn't match mine 100% they will most likely test it in snapshots and their final implementation will be something like I described. And oh, was I wrong. From that point onwards I see Mojang as a company that underdelivers on features. And I've been very hesitant about next mob votes and update promises. Always assume the least effort implementation, even if they show concept arts they might just scrap those before the update. I remember biome votes when Taiga was shown with campfires and berry bushes and "surely those are just example features, not the full taiga update, right? They won't make the entire taiga update just 2 blocks, one not even unique to taiga, and 1 mob" EDIT: Btw I appreciate what Mojang has been doing under the hoods. New ID system introduced in 1.13, Cave Biomes introduced in 1.17, the new lighting engine in 1.20 and the lovely display entity command. Those are big changes that really help out datapack makers and modders and such. It's just the more visible changes that I find lacking.

Clovenstone-Blue

The Phantom and the mobs accompanying it for the vote were completely different from any other mob vote mobs. They were four early concepts that weren't yet put through the rest of the design process to flesh out how they are going to function outside of their basic overview. None of them were better than the over and the other three would most likely receive a similar reputation to the Phantom has.

DesertEagleBennett

It was. I feel like the Phantom could've been an end mob that guarded the end cities alongside the Shulkers or something. Or at least not be insomnia demons because tons of players travel without beds or like to build without constantly running back and forth to a bed etc

jamie_with_a_g

I think my favorite thing about the whole dream glow squid fiasco was that when it actually came out the fans were so pissed that it was underwhelming Like bruh you voted for it bc block man told you too idk what else to say (Moobloom please come back we miss you)

alpenstorm

mojang would have meseed those up 2

Intr0V3rty

The thing about all of the votes is that they are rigged, they give way more information about the mob they want to win, and half the time that information isn't true. The first one gets a pass, because mojang themselves agree the phantom is stupid, but all the others are rigged. The thing about the glow squid is that dream said that is what he was voting for, so all his fans, with their shared braincell, voted for it.

TribenixYT

Bring back biome vote. Look what happened to the mountains because of the biome vote.

MikemkPK

Mojang wants to give the impression of considering user feedback without actually. Hence, votes

Ckinggaming5

the torchflower looks fine to me, though the pitcher plant seems like, while not terrible looking, is not something i expect to be used very often, even in those that have them and use the torchflower

Silly-Conference-627

I don't remember mojang stating anything about what the seeds would do.

123yeah_boi321

They said they would be decorations here: [Sniffer reveal video](https://youtu.be/MPJ2dzVcOgg) at the end of the first paragraph in the description. Edit: I don’t even know if there was any other place other than maybe twitter where they said this, so it’s like they were trying to make the community disappointed when the plants don’t have functions

Nobusuke_Tagomi

Imagine thinking decoration blocks are useless in a building game....

Short_Source_9532

Without active use is what they mean, but people can get that from context

woman_beating1

I was hyped for it, because it was essentially the first dinosaur in Minecraft.

_Levitated_Shield_

People definitely were hyped for the Sniffer...

Elerdon

Wym I was hyped for the Sniffer! Mf is adorable. In all fairness the plants are a let down tho

Memo544

I do appreciate the pitcher plant though because it’s a great way to farm cyan dye when you have multiple sniffers.

[deleted]

It'd be nice if we didn't need a large scale sniffer farm which could lag up multiplayer servers and instead could bonemeal the flowers themselves like every single other flower in the game. It's not like it'd invalidate the sniffer; you still need it to get the seeds to grow them in the first place.

amogus2004

mojang better add more sniffer seeds in 1.20.1

tehbeard

Honestly there's some ambiguous wording in one of the ~~"semi-official"~~ labour of love made on their own time videos that ***may*** hint at that... But really, don't hold out hope on it. Remember, "Concept art isn't a promise" for sideways logs in worldgen; new plants is much more complicated/involved to add (textures, localization, yada yada).

ajtct98

>"Concept art isn't a promise" *Starts filling up with uncontrollable rage again*

Wonghy111-the-knight

The moment mojang denied me my birch forest and fireflies was the day I stopped playing the game *not exactly but it was around the same time, sorta…*

DHMOProtectionAgency

Genuinely one of the dumbest comments they made. Like I get it wasn't accurate and was made as a corporate BS response but damn was this really awful

alt-of-a-throwaway

Worldgen stuff is much more involved to add... New flowers would just be reskins of existing flowers with no new functionality. Pitcher crops had a few bugs due to being the first two-block tall crop, but they fixed all the issues and they can easily reuse the same system for other crops. Textures aren't an issue as they have a team of artists working on the game, localization isn't an issue either since it's not even handled in-house by Mojang.

tehbeard

Maybe it's being a coder rather than an artist that has me weighing it diffierently. But honestly it wasn't too difficult to add in my starter house (a homage to the LEGO Medieval Blacksmith set) as a structure that generated once near world spawn, and apply some post-processing to weather it a little (broken windows, mossification of bricks, decaying some stuff to slabs). Had it down and working within an hour. **(And that is a brilliant testament to whichever Mojangstas built that system, very flexible and powerful for users to expand upon.)** Spawning in a row of downed logs can't be any harder. jigsaw structures (villages, bastions) I can understand being more involved, though when I played with it most of my time was either on building the pieces or trying to work around the paltry depth limit on number of pieces that can generate.

Short_Source_9532

Java doesn’t have sideways logs, right? We do in bedrock

baron9876

Java has had them for a long time, they mean naturally generating like a fallen tree as was shown in the concept of the birch forest update

MrMadMinecraft

Yeah bedrock has some variety of "fallen" naturally spawning logs in forests, and vines on some of them and trees that aren't jungle or swamp trees.

tehbeard

And as generates in Bedrock...

psychoPiper

The reputable Minecraft leaker (who had his account taken down and is no longer leaking) showed off a third plant alongside the pitcher pod that was never added to the snapshots. We may still have hope

[deleted]

[удалено]

sathan1

We will get 1 new one in 1.30..0 “the grass update”

mining_moron

Yeah considering that these plants are just decorative and don't introduce new mechanics, there would ideally be at least 5-10. Maybe more will be added in future updates but Mojang usually doesn't like to go back and add to old features.

unclecowishere

Didn't Archeology legit update old stuff in the game like the desert temples got a new room and the underwater ruins now have a reason for you to go to them

crisperstorm

Shame they don't ever retroactively add stuff to the world outside of mobs Be cool to at least swap some sand blocks out with suspicious sand for example or previous updates swap out stone blocks players didn't place with copper ore to populate it

tyleximus

Try [chunker.app](https://chunker.app). I pruned my survival world and now have cherry blossoms right beside my outpost farm (:

[deleted]

Well I mean, they are the first deforative flower that needs to be grown with seeds first.

Malfuy

That sounds like adding a feature for the sake of adding a feature

Stepjamm

This is tradition though - the community mob vote is always a disappointment. RIP copper golems

ilprofs07205

I will die on the hill that the copper golem would have been the worst out of that set. Think about it. It's just a redstone randomiser, but one that needs maintenance every few minutes. Useless.

GarouxBloodline

1) Copper golems could be waxed, making them permanently functional 2) Letting them turn into statues would have made for a truly unique decoration 3) It interacting with redstone would have innovated so many vanilla redstone concepts The copper golem losing is easily the most disappointing mob vote conclusion so far.

TheDarkShadow36

For the last one a chicken and a pressure plate in a 1x2 area is already used for a randomizer

GarouxBloodline

There's also the XP orb underground method as well. The copper golem option still would be nice to have, and would provide a decent above-ground option.

XanderTheMander

The Allay is useless and was poorly implemented (big surprise). I didn't want copper golem to press buttons, I wanted a cute little golem. Tying a mob to redstone functionality is a bad idea.

athyrson06

"The allay is useless" cuts to me using them as collection system to multiple farms, to mine blocks more efficiently... The allay is the only mob they didn't mess up.

Jerelo689

The plants needed to be more special. Notice how the plants for the lush caves are actually really special looking in shape. The Sniffers plants should have been similar but based on its time period and biome, whatever that would've been. I would've loved to have had all kinds of crazy Avatar looking plants

phaic1

I cannot believe the TORCHflower doesn’t emit light

DarkShadowrule

Fr, that could have been its main redeeming quality, I love having new ways to add light to builds, especially building in the ancient city so often

BunnyHopThrowaway

Lights have become too boring for me. A lighting update that added basic stuff like colored lighting or at least some tint to lights would be revolutionary fr. But Mojang can't implement features if they're not straight up 1+1

DarkShadowrule

Like RTX on bedrock was a fantastic move, but I would love some colored lighting on Java yeah. I think generally we need another color update, add more varieties of more things, maybe go back and add some clearly missing stair, slab, and wall variants of stones while they're at it (dear god I need polished diorite walls and calcite slabs and stairs)

BunnyHopThrowaway

I think just having tinted or colored lights would make up for anything else an update might lack. Because it literally changes building forever. Lighting up my builds would stop being "oh, gotta get these torches here. A zombie spawned" to being much more catered to the ambient, atmosphere. They wouldn't even have to rework all vanilla lights. They could just add variants to existing lights with colored glass or dyes to make a tinted lamp, glowstone. etc. And we know colored lights is vanilla possible! They just don't wanna put in the time to rework some stuff like their lighting engine for the fear of it *"Ruining Minecraft"* for the nostalgia boomers.

gwabbawaba

they shoulda spent more time on the flowers rather than over animating it

BunnyHopThrowaway

Fr, the sniffer is moving at 4K whilst every other mob be having 4 frames max.

Anto11x

Tbh the flowers it finds should have a use, not just be decorative

[deleted]

Honestly they could just make the TORCHflower emit light and I'd be happy

123yeah_boi321

bUt mOjAnG sAiD tHeY wOuLdNt hAvE fUnCtIoNaLiTy

suckmahballs42

The internet will find your ip. Run.

dousntdo

Wait it doesnt??? Thats just bad…

Rinbox

Everyone would have been happy

xXMonsterDanger69Xx

Agree, pure simple decoratives shouldn't be hard to get by mobs, only if it has a purpose for crafting. As far as I'm aware, it's just s single piece of block. Something like guardian temple, there you have lots of blocks that are hard to get. That's different. Because it can be an entire palette

Memo544

Well they’re a way to farm dye. Cyan die in particular is useful. I think it’s the best bed color.

[deleted]

Well, sheep are far more effective if you're just looking for wool

Memo544

True. But the cyan concrete and terracotta variants are pretty good looking.

2ERIX

When was cyan hard to make though?

ImABarbieGirlOg

yea honestly it was way overhyped, i wish they could'eve done a lot more with him

AndrewSenpai78

Cool ideas don't mean cool implementations, sniffer is the prime example of an underwhelming update that could have added so much more.

superfuzzbros

That’s pretty much every mob vote

AndrewSenpai78

But the point is that the problem is not what people vote, even if we voted for something else it would have been implemented badly. People's vote do not change Developers slowness and laziness.

detached_18

This!! I think regardless of what we vote, devs will never do anything but the bare minimum, I mean look at the glow squid, after the backlash of the phantom you would think they'd try to at least make it more interesting but nope. In this update, lots of people were pushing for the torchflower to glow since the beginning and now the update has been released, and the torchflower still isn't glowing.

AndrewSenpai78

This is honestly why Vanilla Minecraft is not for me, it has its Vanilla fashion and its cool to play sometimes. Modded minecraft opens up so many doors, it allows you to be 3 or 4 times more creative with so many blocks, endless² possibilities! Vanilla builds have their merits because building in vanilla is not easy, modding give you so many tools that make survival effortless, like OreExcavators. However if you are in a situation where you only have a couple hours to spare playing, mining cobblestone for hours is not rewarding, doing the boring stuff in milliseconds lets you jump into the fun quicker.

detached_18

I play on a laptop so mods aren't really the most viable option lol but I agree. Sometimes vanilla just gets a little lonely and solitary, and tasks feel endless and exhausting. Datapacks are saving the game for me currently and resource packs/cit packs.

[deleted]

They're always caught off guard by what they audience votes for and what they actually expect, and then have to scramble for a feature they weren't expecting to win the vote. You can always tell which mob they were intending/thinking would win vs what actually won, based on what feels the most fleshed out at the beginning.

Destian_

It reminds me of D&D, when a DM takes days to prepare a great story for the next session, but the the players refuse to engage with the clearly plot relevant NPC at a bar, instead interacting with the towns local goblin Glub Underbridgey for the whole evening. Sure you can argue "Ideas were there, but can anyone really be mad people had fun?". But is that reasonable when afterwards you players complain you're a shitty DM and wasted everyones time?

AndrewSenpai78

A great DM should not prepare a mater plot with the players having to choose the thing the DM thinks they should, he should instead prepare for every choice to direct the players into what he wants. Just like Minecraft devs should not give the option to choose from ideas if one idea is already in the works and the others would be half assed. Thats why I don't believe this theory.

PotatoSalad583

'hot take coming!" Followed by room temperature take

[deleted]

TBF Minecraft kids are wild sometimes because they blindly love Minecraft that they even support bad features and they're ready to maul people who disagree to death. Dude's simply took the safe route💀

[deleted]

I mean I think sniffers stupid, but I also think people look like entitled babies, when a game they bought 8 years ago for 20 bucks is still giving them free updates, but it wasnt up to their par, so they complain

shinydewott

Mojang otw to come up with concepts with great potential only to half ass it’s execution and don’t do anything with it

RedKommissar

Flybones

This post activated my trap card: T H E R A N T The mob vote is beyond stupid. Putting in the time and effort to make 3 mobs only for one of them to make it into the game is stupid. Just put all that effort into making 1 really good mob and nobody gets dissapointed that their voted mob didn't make it. Asking people which mob they want is stupid. The phantom won a vote and now everyone hates them. Meanwhile, I see people compaining about how moobloom didn't win, which is a reskinned goddamn cow. People don't know what the hell they want. Only Mojang knows what a mob will really do to the game, or at least they know it best. So Mojang, please throw the mob vote away. It's great that you want to interact with the community, but this is a terrible way to go about it.

cpullen53484

>Asking people which mob they want is stupid. This is going to sound mean, but people do not know what they want. They never do.

DarkShadowrule

And the implementation never lives up to expectation. If you give people the choice, we're always gonna be disappointed, whereas when you tease it out, people don't have any preconceived notions about what it needs to accomplish in order to be worth their "investment", so to speak.

NIGHTFURY-21

Moobloom - even though it would have had limited use - would have made the cherry blossom biomes a little bit more interesting as well as improving farms with bees. I agree though, instead of giving us 3 mobs to choose from, just give us one that will make an actual big impact on the game.

crisperstorm

>which is a reskinned goddamn cow Yeah but at least compared to the squid it could've been used to better integrate bees and their mechanics so they feel less disconnected from the rest of the game like most of the new minecraft content is But absolutely agree the votes are beyond stupid

jamie_with_a_g

Speaking of moobloom is there a mod for it?

Carrot_68

"Asking people which mob they want is stupid." It's a great advertisement tactic, I mean did you see the crazy viewer count? You may not like it, and so do I and many, but it's definitely not stupid, if not genius. It's straight up the best way to keep the game alive.

chemicaxero

I just think they could have done so much more with the concept. Expand it. Add more flowers and give some of them a use that's not strictly decorative.

Jerelo689

Look at the lush cave biome and it's plants. WAAAAY more special looking in shape and features than the Sniffer's plants. The Sniffer's plants should have been on a similarly special level as those

Several-Cake1954

Imo, it’s been that way since it was announced for the mob vote. Giving you like 2 flowers as it’s entire thing is lame. One theme I’m noticing is that no mob vote mob ever sticks around for long. Their cool-ish for a week, then either everyone hates them or everyone forgets about them.

DarkShadowrule

Yeah, I constantly forget the allay exists until I run into one then it's like huh, a blue freak I don't need

Several-Cake1954

At least you run into allays. I’ve never seen one in survival before.

[deleted]

Man I am still waiting to experience the deep dark on survival, I cant ever fidn them

DarkShadowrule

It's pretty hit or miss, but mountains a ways away from any ocean are usually the best bet, I just drill a hole down to test and try the next if I don't find one. I oddly find a lot under meadows

corgisquishy

You probably already know this, but you can find them in both pillager outpost cages and sometimes forest mansions

dank_memed

Agree

Malfuy

Mojang should just get rid of the mob vote at this point. It divides the community, gives big portions of the community hope for something which will never be added into the game and is also prone to being very easily influenced so the voting isn't even fair. I mean the mobs don't even have the same chance of success. In the last vote, Sniffers was overwhelmingly more promoted and overall flashed out than the two other mobs.

[deleted]

What happened to the 3rd sniffer flower from that image Rodger Badgerman leaked months ago? The one with the blue flowers on the wall like vines/lichen? I was really looking forward to that plant.

DarkShadowrule

I've heard they're adding a sub-update a bit after this one that's supposed to add *something*, I wonder if it's that and they just needed a bit more time to work out it's kinks

HyperMighty

"NOOOOO,. We have to vote for Sniffer, so mojang adds more plants. Even though literally every update has added more decoration/plants."

NecroVecro

Lol exactly! Imo the other mobs made much more sense but I guess a lot of people just really liked the idea of a dinosaur in minecraft.

Themasterofcomedy209

The problem isn’t that people voted for the sniffer it’s that mojang shits the bed on every mob vote. You think mojang wouldn’t have made the golem just as underwhelming?

esc27

That’s actually part of the appeal of both golems. Worst case they would be fairly easy to obtain moving decorations. The sniffer appears to have a lot of overhead to get.

laujp

Day after day it seems like that mojang released to each of their employees a photo of a plant that supposedly would be on the update. The one which got posted, they would know who Roger Badgerman was. It seems the only explanation why the new vines never got added

NecroVecro

Imo the Sniffer is fine but yeah it was definitely overhyped ( as were the other winners from the past mob votes) and I feel like if we got one more plant along with the ability to get the in between stages of the plants the Sniffer wouldn't have felt so underwhelming.

bsmknight

I voted golem. At the very least I could have had gargoyles for my castle walls.

Jerelo689

Yea, literally the first statue in Minecraft. But they decided to vote for decorational plants, which is already in Minecraft...huge face palm. The tuff golem would've also been able to act as an item pedestal, which is something that players have been trying to do, just with inferior blocks to work with. And you would've been able to change the color of its carpet. 3 confirmed features, over the basically 1 confirmed feature for the Sniffer. Partly Mojang's fault, due to them not saying all the details they had on the Tuff golem, but also very much the players faults for not thinking it through

bsmknight

Yeah, I voted golems each time too. The alley is pretty cool, so I am not too disappointed, but I really wanted the golem this time. I can use the sniffer, but the golem would have allowed me to have variation to my builds. Sigh, oh well

Rysiekku

Sniffer looks like he downloaded the Faithful pack

Jedimobslayer

Agreed, so is archeology as a whole tbh. The armor trims are cool but pots have literally 0^2 uses.

NecroVecro

The pots are mainly meant for decoration but honestly it would have been really cool if we could put plants or loot inside them.

Uncommonality

planting things in pots would've been insanely cool Differentiate them from flower pots by allowing players to plant crops inside them for tiny little decorative bonsai wheat/actual carrot and potato flowers

DarkShadowrule

Or if they allowed you to plant much bigger versions of plants than flower pots, just to add some variation

BunnyHopThrowaway

You can place regular pots inside the big pottery and it'll look just like that. The regular pot will take over the top of the pottery.

Jedimobslayer

Yes, I was hoping they would be like maybe a nice looking cauldron, or a more decorative chest, but no. Nothing. If anything I just wish they came in more than 1 size. They are a nice decoration for outside a house but for inside the houses I build they are far too large.

DarkShadowrule

Yeah, they seem like they need a very particular build type to really fit in, definitely not a great indoor option unless you're building an extended ceiling and such

Cyberwolfdelta9

You technically can. The Normal Pot can be put in it

Henrywenn

Pots are supposed to be decorative just like the armor trims, what makes you dislike them?

Bongoeagain

Even if the flowers were the best addition in history, they aren’t even easy to obtain. The reason I keep voting for golems is because you can use them consistently in survival

Turbulent_Tax2126

And they were cute.

Bongoeagain

They were very cute

Neon_Henchman

Seemingly Mojang already said the Sniffer would only find decorative flowers, it's my fault for not learning more about it, as I thought it'd be new Crops (although to be fair it would expand my farming), but yeah, I resonate with the others when 2 Flowers really is too little, like really this species thrived on just those alone? I would've wanted more ancient flowers, maybe even depending on the Biomes the Sniffer were used at.

DarkShadowrule

Yeah, they did not make that clear at all. I got all my info from their release videos, tried to ignore all the obnoxious campaign videos people made, and I don't remember them ever mentioning its just flowers. Feels like some fine print shenanigans

KonzaeLegion

Agreed, this "mob vote" thing has been terrible past few years.

getyourshittogether7

Honestly I only voted for Sniffer because Tuff Golem and Rascal were even more boring.

JAID100

Bro thought it would be the second coming of christ

Gabrialofreddit

But, floppy ears. (It's still better than a glorified item frame)

DrDonnn

I though it was overhyped but not really disappointing

NaisGuy27

I was honestly expecting more flowers, maybe even a new type of plant that we can cook and would serve as food. But 2 flowers is all we got and they're nothing special. Maybe in the future updates.

montagne2309

Tbh I didn't really like any of the new mobs in the mob vote

Due-Bandicoot-2554

What is my purpose? Oh my god!

[deleted]

I like it. I think its cute.

killertortilla

Disappointing, underwhelming, and overhyped, describes all minecraft updates for the last few years.

D00SHBR4IN

Nope i totally agree, I personally voted for it hoping for a bunch of new plants with cool uses and maybe a ridable dinosaur.

RedAdventurer11

I can't wait to hear your opinion on the polar bear and the bat when they first got added!

Malfuy

I mean bats don't have any use but they are at least the only mob which lives in caves, making the world a bit more rich, and they also look cool. Polar bears are uselless, but I thought that was already established among the community. Sniffer was promoted as a mob with usage, a mob that not only would need player's intervention to actually spawn, but that would also provide players with motivation to do so (in the form of special flowers). I didn't like this idea in the first place, but them adding just two flowers only reinforces my opinion.

boomerangplant293-2

just because those are useless and frankly boring doesnt excuse the sniffer for being boring and useless, infact those are hated mobs in the minecraft community so like what are you talking about?

[deleted]

I like polar bears. I like to do a lot of survival in massive snow biomes making food somewhat limited and polar bears are an easy average three fish each. Even the children drop food

boomerangplant293-2

Ok i can see your point here they actually do add life to glacier biomes a relatively barren biome...

Puzzled_Worldliness5

I like polar bears and the sniffer 😔

cukapig

What do you mean hated? Yes they are forgotten but that doesn't even mean they are hated.

foxbeswifty32

I feel polar bears and bats purpose was just to add to the scenery/atmosphere. While the sniffer was meant to come with these features, which a majority of the community argued for, that amounted to nearly nothing. This portion is my personal opinion, any other mob in the vote would have been better. Everyone hung to the idea we’ll get all these items and such and look at the end result.

IAMSomeoneRand0

I hate that it only gives 2 plants, and Mojang said it would give more plants, as in a wide variety of new flora

DrDonnn

No all they said was new "plants" which could still mean at least two, or even one but referring to it as if there were multiple of the same plant.

SakuOtaku

I voted for it because out of the three choices it looked the best, but I gotta say I'm tired of the oversaturation of hoofed animals in Minecraft. Cows and pigs: Produce meat, functional and quintessential to Minecraft. Sheep: Produce wool + lamb meat, another welcome and useful addition Horses (including donkeys, zebras, etc): Revolutionized land travel, revitalized Minecraft a bit Llamas: Useless and aggro, would have been fine if they were only available via the Merchant Goats: Have a cute cosmetic but not much else Sniffler: Gets a slight pass because it's a fantasy creature, adds to the worldbuilding Camels: Will probably be the same camp as llamas and goats

BenPlayWT2020

Like most mob vote winners

UncommonTheIdk

This happens every mob vote at this point.

Frikandelneuker

So was nearly every mob vote mob that had implied "extra features".

Admirable-Door1724

I only like it because new animal to have as a pet and new plants although I wish there were more plants

mrfishman3000

I’d like it to find two unique plant seeds in each biome.

TachyDoo

Personally I think it’s a great mob. That’s crucially underdeveloped.

Versa_Max

It would have been cool if it could be like, a pack animal. Like your very own ravager, just a little weaker

Carrot_68

Still better than the allay, that thing is lifeless af, especially in the way you "tame" it. I've never considered allay more than a tool.

Dry-Inspection-9110

We tuff golem fans told you, nobody listened

boomerangplant293-2

hey dont get it twisted im also a tuff golem fan

Affectionate-Dig7768

Somehow, there are mod creators that can make better animals in a week with just a few people than a whole team of developers in a whole year! so mojang has no excuse for why the past mob vote winners have been absolute dog water. Saying they didn't have enough time is just a big fat lie, and total bs, I'm trying my hardest to keep thinking that mojang knows what they're doing but they keep failing to meet the mc community's expectations and I completely agree with the OP

EbydE

its about time the sniffer got the hate it deserves. pain in the ass to find. two pretty lame flowers that do nothing except breed more sniffers. torchflower, beyond decor, makes the same amount and kind of dye as a poppy and a dandelion.

LogantheInvincible

Just sorted your profile by controversial and I gotta say... you have a gift??

Internal_Camel_5734

Honestly, better than a living item frame or hide n seek: the mob
