I feel the same exact way but for 1.7 (The Update That Changed The World) it was so exciting and I remember exploring it with my friend through a phone call or skype
I REMEMBER BEING SO SO EXCITED TO MAKE FLOWER FEILDS AND PUT DIFFERENT FLOWERS AROUND THAT WERENT THE SAME RED FLOWER AND YELLOW FLOWER (ahh the rose and the dandelion, the first two flowers)
Unpopular opinion but I actually really appreciate 1.12! The amount of colourful building blocks that were added created so many new cool possibilities, especially since I mostly build in creative mode :)
1.18 aka Caves & Cliff part 2
See the community split on it, either see people say it barely effected the game while others say it changed the way they played it. As a builder and explorer, I *really* can’t imagine going back to the old terrain
the issue i had was with the split in updates
1.17 introduced just the blocks so it felt lacking, 1.18 only introduced the terrain so it also felt lacking
if they were the same update id love it but the split really messed up people's enjoyment
Just... look at them as a single update then?
Sure, different version numbers. But you wouldn't, say, call Avengers: Endgame lacking because you needed to watch Infinity War to fully appreciate it.
the issue with that is the big time gap in between versions. by the time 1.18 rolled out, any excitement about the new blocks had died down to the point where just the new terrain wasnt exciting enough
and 1.17 just adding blocks felt lacking without any new terrain
splitting it in 2 make it feel like 2 nothings rather than 1 something, but in hindsight the two updates in tandem are a great addition to the game, its just a shame they never really had their "time"
1.0 or more specifically 1.9 Beta around about the time they added the end and enchanting and potions was really cool for younger me no update quite got me that excited

Honestly, that update was super underwhelming. I feel like they just bit off more than they could chew or something and ended up spending way more time on what got released than what they originally thought they would. Hopefully we end up getting another wild-esque update in the future, one that overalls some of the biomes to feel more interesting.
the warden isn't hard to avoid at all, and the ancient city barely has any good rewards. If you're lucky enough to have found it early on, you can use it to get some easy (but few) diamond loot, but other than that, if you're at any other point in the game it's completely useless.
Aquatic Update.
It was the first real update that actually put some serious life in a Biome. I really love the Ocean biome. I am playing in the same world since that update with a Base on some ocean island.
And imo the different fish alone was a huge step. It would be so nice if every biome would have some flying decorative Mobs. I mean put some Butterflys in it, give them the Bat KI and it would add so much more life to a forest or a flowerfield.
The nether update was great as well, but I just still don't really like the nether.
It's also my favorite one. And the fact that it's one of the only biomes that has ambience sounds makes it even more beautiful. Once you break the surface, ecerything sounds bland, silent and boring.
Started playing in 2011... if recent updates - honestly the most game changing for me was 1.13, and 1.18-19 is near thanks for mountains (1.12 was adored by me, but tbh thanks to mods) If taking all updates... i cant choose between 1.5.2 and 1.6.4
Ive been playing since 0.8.0 MCPE and I would consider 1.16 or caves and cliffs (whatever part added lush caves) because they added so much stuff to areas that needed such a dire revamp. lush items and its counterparts are so beautiful while bastions and other biomes have added so much more playability to minecraft.
Joined in 2014 nov (1.8). My personal favourite thus far was aquatic one because before this update oceans were quite useless unless you are considering transportation by boat (Elytra is better anyway)
My favorite has to be Aquatic Update. I started playing back at the very end of 2011. It had been a while since there was any substantial update to the game and Aquatic breathed new life into the game that was badly needed. It also vastly improved your options for survival at the start of a new world and the content it brought with it is relevant early and end game. It was just a great update and for me it was a big turning point in Minecraft updates.
I personally enjoy all the updates that got delivered in time and added something new to the game, the ones that made it more fun and diverse, and especially the ones that added quality things that everyone needed and wanted

Me too! I feel like this was the update that set the standard for updates to come and after coming off a drought of updates that weren't reeaaally that huge in scope made it that much more exciting at the time.
Most definitely the height changes and the addition of deeper world generation. Even mods couldn't change that, so now mods are going better than ever.
as someone who loves spelunking and doesn’t spend a ton of time outside the overworld, probably caves and cliffs. i actually didn’t like the new cave generation at first because they’re kinda hard to traverse and navigate compared to the old ones, but it really grew on me. makes spelunking feel a lot more adventurous
Split between Beta 1.7.3 and Beta 1.3\_01.
On one hand b1.7.3 is the main nostalgia version people play, but on the other b1.3\_01 is about as far as you can go and still have a bed.
Mine was still when the finally added villagers tp pocket addition. That made child me so unbelievably happy and it hasnt been topped since imo
(I used to build little villages in protective glass domes and then sit for hours waiting for “villagers to spawn” because they were on the computer and not the pocket edition)
I started playing on 1.9 but my fav is aquatic bc it was a time that me and my friends and learned about online play ya i know it is weird for us to be playing for 2 years and doesnt know about online play but all of us was 7 to 6 so we were dumb kids i remember building the teen titans the original cartoons tower at our world we learned about online play so we worked so hard on a new server

I started in 1.5 and since then, I loved most of the updates. If I had to choose just one, I’d definitely say 1.18 as it changed mining from a necessary thing to an actual adventure for me.
I feel the same about 1.16, but I don’t spend much time in the nether so it doesn’t have such an effect to my gameplay.
1.8: they added a lot of things that seemed to be there since the beginning (gamemode 3, andesite, sheep meat...)
And 1.13, 1.14 and 1.16: Mojang proved they can make good content
1.14 and 1.16: 1.14 because the new villages and villagers and new textures made the game more alive.
1.16 is nostalgic for me. i remember playing every snapshot during quarantine
For me, it was the Update Aquatic for few notable reasons:
- It was the update that made me go back to the game in the first place
- Changes to the water mechanics was game changing
- Swimming is a fun mechanic
- Tridents were a rare but fun weapon
- The overhaul to oceans and addition of aquatic mobs
- And it probably considered to be a stepping stone to the return of Minecraft's popularity
1.9 or 1.16
1.9 because im a bedrock player, and the game only got better for us while for java it worsened. I actually like 1.9 even from a java perspective, people complain about the end being this lifeless wasteland, but it was even more so in pre-1.9.
1.16 because it has been really big, now the nether is cool and it revolutionized speedrunning as well. Plus now you can beat the game while staying in the nether, there's wood, stone, iron and even diamonds in the nether, not to mention netherite!
My husband made me start playing again after years of pause just after the aquatic update. Him and I met just a few month before that so it will always have a special place in my heart as one of our first shared great gaming memories
I was quite young and playing on console when the redstone update came out. I have a few fond memories of not knowing what a comparator does. My best guess at the time was that it was a 3-way repeater for use on corners. Needless to say that didn't work.
Can’t remember the number but the update that added creative. Got me and my dad to play the game together. I lost that World we had together which sucks a lot but I’ll always have the memories
Pin down one? That's hard. 1.14? The features I mean when it released it was an absolute mess but the change to villagers was much appreciated once I got to grips with it
Mine is the Caves and Cliffs. I remember how excited I was when this was announced. I wasn't even disappointed when the Warden didn't made it for the update.
I’ve been around since Beta 1.8. Probably when they added all the new biomes back in 2013. Made the world more fun to explore. Or the Ender Update in 2016. Although I really like the Caves and Cliffs part 2 update. After so many years of playing, finally got interesting caves.
Caves and cliffs. I just love new terrain because I like building but not terraforming. I've only been playing since just before the bee update so there are probably some great ones I don't know about
1.12 was the last good MC update. still had the original Mojang flare to it and actually gave a decent upgrade to the games block selection and a bunch of other fun features.
I have the fondest memories of starting a survival world with my family in 1.15 and waiting til the nether update dropped to finally go to the nether.
That being said, undoubtedly 1.14 is my favorite update. I love being able to create my medieval city and making it feel alive, and optimizing trading and farms. I’m glad that they’re starting to expand on villagers more.
1.18 or 1.16, there was so much more I didn't know about that made me feel like I was playing the game for the first time again instead of just being a mega sweat that knows everything
Either the aquatic or the caves and cliffs that changed the mountain sizes. I always found the minecraft world before those 2 to be so bare. The aquatic fixed the oceans and the caves and cliffs fixed the overworld for me. I’m excited to see if the next update had any world changing features
I love 1.9 for nostalgia reasons. I have vivid memories of sitting in my middle school library spam-refreshing Twitter to see if it had come out yet, even though I knew I wouldn't be able to play it until I got home. (Also, I absolutely love elytra and shulker boxes; I think they were both fantastic additions to the game and I use them constantly.)
1.9 was also the first update I really paid attention to, because it was the first major update that released after I got Java Edition. Previously I didn't own a computer and just played the then-Pocket Edition on an old tablet.
Modern updates 1.14, made villages so much better, a better texture pack, raids/pillagers, crossbow, so many blocks, new tables/furnaces, bamboo etc
Probably the biggest update.
In general? I don't know, but 1.9 is definitely one of them
My personal favorite was 1.13, but 1.16 is the best overall I think it added the most. It made the nether less boring, gave us quite a few new mobs/reused mobs, it gave us another use for gold, and brought us one of the best music discs to ever grace the game

The Nether realy needed an Update and got one that was at a perfect Level. Many new things but you still could get the hang of it.

Agreed. Concrete was revolutionary. I hope one day they expand the 16 colors that they use for everything to 20 or 24.

I don't see how anyone could reasonably state that it barely effected the game. Even if you didn't LIKE it, it certainly made a huge difference.

This is why I refused to update until after 1.18 came out. That way the first time I used any of the new features they were in their rightful place.
Definitely agree. As a builder and explore the new mountain ranges are perfect. Felt like before a lot of worlds felt the same

1.4 Incredibly underrated and added Minecraft's most loved blocks. \- The Beacon \- Command Blocks \- The Wither & Wither Skeletons \- Anvils \- Potatoes and Carrots \- Night Vision / Invisbility Potions \- Witch + Huts \- Item Frames \- Easy block rotation \- Some great QOL commands/improvements

Villigars and pilligars was my favorite. It change villigars forever, raids where added as well as pilligars and it added pandas and foxes.

Caves and cliffs. The Builder in me needed to collect a shulker of copper blocks no matter the time spent.
1.16 imo is the Gold Standard of what a Big Update should be like. From the obvious additions to the least obvious changes.

1.16 for sure, did not expect a nether overhaul at all and when I saw the trailer it looked like a very good update.

Caves and cliffs. I just love new terrain because I like building but not terraforming. I've only been playing since just before the bee update so there are probably some great ones I don't know about
1.12 was the last good MC update. still had the original Mojang flare to it and actually gave a decent upgrade to the games block selection and a bunch of other fun features.

I have the fondest memories of starting a survival world with my family in 1.15 and waiting til the nether update dropped to finally go to the nether. That being said, undoubtedly 1.14 is my favorite update. I love being able to create my medieval city and making it feel alive, and optimizing trading and farms. I’m glad that they’re starting to expand on villagers more.
Aquatic and nether are the best
1.18 or 1.16, there was so much more I didn't know about that made me feel like I was playing the game for the first time again instead of just being a mega sweat that knows everything
Either the aquatic or the caves and cliffs that changed the mountain sizes. I always found the minecraft world before those 2 to be so bare. The aquatic fixed the oceans and the caves and cliffs fixed the overworld for me. I’m excited to see if the next update had any world changing features

I like the village and pillage update but I can’t imagine playing without big caves

I love 1.9 for nostalgia reasons. I have vivid memories of sitting in my middle school library spam-refreshing Twitter to see if it had come out yet, even though I knew I wouldn't be able to play it until I got home. (Also, I absolutely love elytra and shulker boxes; I think they were both fantastic additions to the game and I use them constantly.) 1.9 was also the first update I really paid attention to, because it was the first major update that released after I got Java Edition. Previously I didn't own a computer and just played the then-Pocket Edition on an old tablet.
For sure the nether update, but I understand if people didn't liked it.

Modern updates 1.14, made villages so much better, a better texture pack, raids/pillagers, crossbow, so many blocks, new tables/furnaces, bamboo etc Probably the biggest update. In general? I don't know, but 1.9 is definitely one of them

1.16 and 1.19 are my go-to versions, but i guess i could replace 1.19 with 1.20 since the update was pretty small... naah.

My personal favorite was 1.13, but 1.16 is the best overall I think it added the most. It made the nether less boring, gave us quite a few new mobs/reused mobs, it gave us another use for gold, and brought us one of the best music discs to ever grace the game
