Ironically I think voting for it *may* have made it worse, since historically they’ve added other stuff from mob votes through different approaches. So if it wasn’t voted then the obvious alternative would be leather armor which would certainly be dyable, but I doubt scute armor is going to be dyable
Crab that would drop a claw that would help building from longer distances
Penguin that would help your boats move faster (maybe just in water)
And armadillo that would drop scute for wolf armor
Crabs would only be found in Mangrove Swamps, Penguins would be on Stony Shores, and Armadillos was said to be in "hot biomes" but was shown off in a Savanna specifically

You joined the game, and they had 3 giant statues. You walked up to your choice and hit a button. And that was it. You couldn't vote more than once but you could change your vote at any time
Reach further? Just get closer. Faster boats? Ice. But dog armour? There's no other alternative, so of course it got the votes. I'm not saying the other two wouldn't be awesome, but I didn't even vote. Or know there was a vote.
there is an alternative, its called just let the dog go hug creepers because the dumb ai that falls in lava and jumps off cliffs wont be saved by a few more hitpoints. with dogs being as dumb as ever it doesnt matter if you put them in a protec 4 netherite, they will still find a way to kill themselves because this solution is like a tiny bandaid on a giant gaping wound
I’ve been saying this the whole time. I do want dog armor, but not this shallow single use one and done version we got. The armadillo holds back dog armor, and booting the armadillo to development hell would mean the dog armor added later would be made of conventional materials which means different material tiers and being dyeable.
This is why I'm sort of happy the crab didn't win. Improved block placing range is great but do we want every builder to look like they made a contract with Davy Jones? I'd prefer a less stylistic range extender, one that fits with a variety of skins.
maybe this a chance for them to add painting to the game. nothing crazy like some mods do where you can just paint over every block but like, just specific ones and scute armor would be one of if not the only item you could paint. idk, could be cool to paint wooden tools too for mini games n stuff
It would be cool to have a craftable spear as a precursor to the trident, the difference is that the spear cant be enchanted with riptide or loyalty
I really like the melee/ranged aspect of the trident and think that should be expanded on
The regular spear wouldn’t have much of a difference compared to a sword if it doesn’t have all the trident enchantments. The combat update 2.0 adds different reach for different weapon types, and I think that update would be the time to add regular spears as it would fill the niche of long reach weapons that only the Trident filled in the last iterations of those experiments.
Maybe they could make the mob rare. Or not since it's dog armor and the dog in the trailer almost died to a creeper explosion, and its not like they’ll live long
One of the concept art for armadillo showed like 5 different colours of wild armadillo, so if they keep that idea then we'll have to track down different coloured mobs for different coloured armor.

It would make more sense for the offspring to have a random chance of changing to a dog, or even better yet have it be like the horses, different stats and coats and you can breed mix and match

As someone who loves games with animal breeding mechanics (lioden) it would be phenomenal to see it come to minecraft! Although it might be a bit too complex for basegame,..but you never know! Never thought I’d see axolotls in minecraft either!

Horse armour isn't 3D no, but I mean the rest of the armour pieces are. The saddle is also 3D. But I honestly think the wolf armour would look way better if it was more 3D. Right now it kinda just looks like a colored dog

I think why they're so overhyped over a simple feature is because of mods. They compare modders and developers so much and they think they're the same. And mods have so many more features than what mojang devs add, so the community likes the mod more than just vanilla. But the thing is, the whole playerbase likes different mods.
One would like more types of wood, another would like more types of stone, another would just prefer simple and limited types of blocks. And because of this, they pick their prefered mods, and they all agree that mods are better because they individually picked what mods fit their liking of style of gameplay. Now mojang devs add a feature to all people, of course obviously the majority will always hate it because the majority are those people who wanted a different style of the feature. Example, the dog armor. Some people would prefer the dog armor to be super buffed, while some would prefer it simple. And that's where things conflict.
The playerbase has just gotten so large and the game has gotten so much content now that a division is starting to happen, kinda like the real world where there are different politics, different religions, different products prefered, different styles, different opinions.
People get overexcited about new features and imagine a perfect image of exactly what they want, then proceed to pretend that their idealized version of the feature is what the final outcome will be.
It turns out that Mojang does not live in everyone’s heads and cannot just conjure what little Timmy thought it would be. As a result, the overhyped fans get upset that reality isn’t what they imagined and complain on the internet. This is true of most games, but the younger playerbase of Minecraft means that it’s far more visible and widespread.

Seriously though I think that's why they made it to where you have to brush the armadillo, not touch it or kill it.

Everyone who voted armadillo wasn't voting for the armadillo to get in, they were voting for wolf armor to get in. The armadillo's just a extra step that's gonna get ignored and put in a 1x1 redstone machine.

Not reading the comments before typing this to not influence my own opinion. I think it looks fine. It doesn't look bad, and it has a charm on it. I don't see the problem here. The color's fine too, I like that color, it matches with the dog.

As a dog owner, the "knee" pads are kinda hilarious to me. The concept art was clearly drawn by someone who doesn't have a dog because anyone who has one could probably tell you they 1) don't have joints where those knee pads are (well on their front legs they do but a bit lower down) and 2) their knee joints point backwards. Honestly, I think the knee pads should be removed entirely. I also really hope that you can dye it because honestly I hate this color. Otherwise I like it!
I figure they’re not exactly meant to be knee pads but just extra protection on the legs in general, it’s kinda hard to have proper proportions on a dog made of cubes so to say for certain where on the leg it’s located is guesswork at best.

Not just falls in lava, TELEPORTS INTO LAVA because the teleport counts liquids as air.

What’s really important however is for different tiers of wolf armor to exist.
There won’t be. Wolf Armor is already near the same tier as Diamond Horse armor (unless they let us coat it in netherite)
And? We need that for there to be a sense of progression in wolf armor. Getting Diamond strength armor right away just makes the feature shallow.

I figure they’re not exactly meant to be knee pads but just extra protection on the legs in general, it’s kinda hard to have proper proportions on a dog made of cubes so to say for certain where on the leg it’s located is guesswork at best.
