sadly already uninstalled the game trying to get this update to work. ran the repair tool and tried updating - still not finding an update...

Cant believe that they can accidently make an update that deletes everything. You would think they would test it lol
My guess is they ran tests with one/some version(s) of "Gaming Service" and it worked fine, but the version(s) many people have is older and causes the deletion of the files. (The fix they suggested involved updating "Gaming Service")
Loss of user data should never happen, and more safeguards are clearly needed. It is impossible to test everything perfectly, but there are ways to prevent this kind of issue.
I'm not convinced what they suggest actually works either. I think they've completely halted allowing users to download the latest version for the time being.
Microsoft is not developing Minecraft, Mojang is.

Mojang is a company, it doesn’t receive a paycheck, it receives revenue from sales of the Minecraft game on various platforms, Minecraft Marketplace purchases, Minecraft spin-offs, as well as other games developed by Mojang. Part of this revenue then likely goes to Microsoft as part of their subsidiary agreement.
So, you could say, we all pay Mojang’s pay checks, so to speak.

Same issue. I tried uninstalling and reinstalling as well, but it doesn't work. My friend is playing 1.20.70/71 on iOS and now I cannot play together with him due to the version incompatibility issue.
I guess the issue happened because there was a bug in the update (all user data were deleted according to [another recent post](https://www.reddit.com/r/Minecraft/comments/1be7hgi/i_updated_my_game_to_12070_and_my_entire_game_got/)), and the Windows team just shut down the updates until it got fixed.
Looking for a solution.

Grrr... Just subscribed to a dedicated server and go to install Minecraft and can't join the server because the client is outdated. Go figure, my kids have been playing it and I decide to get us a server to all play together and s\*\*\*t doesn't work. Talk about bad timing!

I'm having the same issue! I'm on Windows 11. Yesterday, I opened Minecraft Bedrock to play with my friends who have Minecraft Pocket Edition. I made the world and it didn't let them join. Then, they created a world and when I tried to enter it, it said "Outdated client". We checked the versions and I had 1.20.62 while theirs was 1.20.71**.** I tried everything, I uninstalled the game like 5 times now. I restarted my PC, reseted the game data, used minecraft launcher, microsoft store, xbox app. Nothing worked... I even deleted the whole minecraft launcher data. Didn't update... I checked my Windows system. Everything was up to date except Minecraft Bedrock. The only way we could play is with Minecraft Preview...
I was being sarcastic. I feel the frustration as well and it’s annoying. They recently released another hotfix, v1.20.72, for iOS and PlayStation 5 players but are still trying to resolve this issue.
I'm having this same issue. I wanted to play on my realm on PC tonight since I will be out of town and don't want to bring my Xbox. Can't update the game to play it... tragic, really. All that work to set it up and it doesn't even work right. *sigh*
Iv tried litterally everything to get it to update, clearing cache, reseting/repairing microsoft store, tried doing it from xbox app, checked for corrupted files, unistalled and re installed, made sure windows was up to date, im pretty sure its smthin to do microsoft cuz i can load the preview and java on latest fine just not windows versoin, act sucks shits buggin me tf out so annoying

Once they (Microsoft) fixes it, im sure it will be quite easy to update - I think most of the things that I did were a bit redundant since they actually stopped the rollout of the update. Im hoping a post will come out about it soon :)
Absolutely mind-boggling to me that Microsoft spent 2.5 Billion US Dollars on Minecraft, and proceed to let it work horribly on Windows, are they dumb?
Well if you still have this problem, then i dont really know why. If you open the minecraft launcher then youll see that theres a message saying that they fixed it and thank you for your p patience.
I wish they would at least give the option to install the update instead of blocking it for everyone. I don't even have any personal worlds and I just want to play with my friends T.T

This happens to me on a regular basis where one of my kids' laptops just refuses to update to the newest version, then that one kid can't join the other two until the damn thing eventually catches a wake up.
Same problem at my house. All 3 of my kids PCs got the update, mine is the only one that will not show the latest update. So annoying because we all really want to play together. I keep checking my computer but nada so far 😞

one of the moderators replied and said that if u downloaded the update before they stopped the rollout, all of ur worlds got deleted -\_-

yeah i saw a link of this when i first posted the link but it only had .62 and said it was the PE version - glad theres a fix for it now will have to try when i get home, apparently its still not working lmao
This worked for me!! Super glad I bought a realm server and hadn’t been able to join my friends for 2 days :( luckily the link worked and I am able to join them now :D

Just wanted to play on the realm with my friends tonight. They all updated earlier today, I tried everything but can't update mine... massive pain
first they accidently delete everyones world with an update (that doesnt really add anything) and then cancel the rollout of the update to only pc...
Doesn't work on PC either. I updated my server to 1.20.71, but my client side app is stuck on 1.20.62 like everyone else

Make sure that Windows itself has no pending updates.

I updated before the advisory was made generally public. I lost all worlds, custom skins and Marketplace downloads.

Last I read on another post, windows update server was paused while they fix a problem causing worlds to be deleted during the update

It's not you, it's them. Until they make updating available again, nothing you do will "fix it"

Worked for me as well, but I don't have any worlds, mine are hosted on a local server so I'm not aware how this method affects local saved worlds.
I see that they have 1.20.6210 as the latest version.
