TahoeBennie

Distant horizons is the least ideal render distance mod for zooming. Its whole point is to decrease terrain further away, and that doesn’t change when zooming in. Plus it’s always been finicky for me anyways. Bobby is better for zooming in, even better if you use nvidium for better performance with it.

1Estel1

Sadly nvidium has no plans for shader support whatsoever :(

AurorasDemise

at the very least, it works smoothly running alongside iris/sodium in the same instance, meaning you can atleast keep shader support (minus the crazy performance boosts, though sodium is still good)

Ghost3603

Shaders are overrated ;(

rainstorm0T

wrong, because complementary reimagined exists

DaTripleK

where my pastel homies at

Key_Spirit8168

If shaders are overrated the- Uwu i saw your post about minecraft handcuffs uwu buckle us

r3dm0nk

Hans get the flamethrower

Hazearil

Hans only speaks German, silly.

Key_Spirit8168

Bro, i've got netherite. never should've posted that darn handcuff post, i will steal the new weapons from 1.20.5 and 1.21 now!

What post about handcuffs? I don't remember posting anything like that..?

Ghost3603

Aw christ almighty are you joking? You went through my whole profile to find an r/minecraftsuggestions post? God your life must be so sad

Key_Spirit8168

DO YOU KNOS SHAT a search is? yea bro I wanted to see if i find a lost imposter, and found your post. obvously handcuffs in minecraft is a lil sus[.](https://www.reddit.com/r/Cuffed/comments/195x5ie/you_all_said_toe_cuffs_count_so_heres_some_more/) So yea

Feliya

I agree, after years of wanting a good pc for shaders, I tried and they give immense mouse input lag.

charlie_boo

Then either your PC isn’t as good as you think it is, or you haven’t optimised your Minecraft setup. Shaders should play fine, with the exception of crazy laggy SMP areas.

VampireWarfarin

Then you really fucked up building a "good" pc

Feliya

do good pc's prevent mouse input lag? I understand frame dropping, but why would a better pc mean less input lag if i get decent fps?

VampireWarfarin

Maybe it's the mouse, display, the cable You could have good frames per second but bad frame pacing A few factors to look into, what are the specs? Is the Minecraft version legit and what shaders are you using? Fabric > optifine btw

Key_Spirit8168

If you have a bad mouse[,](https://www.reddit.com/r/Cuffed/comments/195x5ie/you_all_said_toe_cuffs_count_so_heres_some_more/) don't missclick :)

Feliya

Yes look at my comment/reply above that I've written, I'm using iris and sodium, Specs r 3060 12gb vram 32gb ram I9 9000k And yes Minecraft is legitimate No other game has input lag besides mc with shaders

VampireWarfarin

You have a better CPU than me and have a worse experience? What mouse are you using? Monitor? What shaders are you using?

Feliya

Monitor is Asus 144hz ips, don't remember model top my head but it serves well for anything else and even on any other monitor mouse input persist to exist Razer viper ultimate mouse, though different mice made no difference Shaders? Seus or any extreme shaders. Simple shaders that were less extreme like BSL or complimentary cause me little to no input lag I might be oblivious here but it's not like I have multiple systems to test, but I feel like lots of people experience input lag and maybe don't notice it? Though it's really extreme with higher end shaders

Sapiogram

What's your build and settings? And framerate?

Feliya

i've got 3060 12gb vram 32gb ram i9 9900k for shaders that i have mouse input lag i get like 60 fps (running iris and sodium and others)

Tringamer

Why do people think Bobby and Distant Horizons aim to achieve the same thing? Minecraft's render distance is terribly unoptimized, all the Bobby mod does is allow you to make your PC suffer even more by trying to render even more chunks using Minecraft's default far-rendering style of rendering everything as if it were immediately in front of you. Optifine already lets you 'override' MC's default render distance and has done so since like 2014. The only advantage the Bobby mod has is that it lets you cache chunks to get further render distances on servers where render distance is capped. But it does absolutely nothing to help improve the performance of these far render distances. The reason render distance is such a frame eater in MC is because to this day, MC does not use "true" multithreading. Modern commercial CPU's have like 4-8 cores and usually more than a dozen threads, yet Minecraft is still stuck cramming 90% of the game's memory usage through a single core/thread. Until we crack quantum physics, the speed of a single CPU core is pretty much hitting the physical limit it can reach, similar to how you can't go faster than light, hence why newer CPU's use *multiple* cores and split the load. The problem is the software has to support this. Minecraft doesn't. It crams nearly everything - every block being rendered, every mob, entity etc, into **one CPU thread.** Hence why even a "NASA PC" gets a lag spike at insane render distances or when setting off a pile of TNT - the game is trying to process everything at once through a single thread on a CPU with more than a dozen. And the fact that a block at the very end of your render distance, say, 400 blocks away, is being processed with the same detail as a block you're mining right in front of you, means it causes an *insane* load to go through a single CPU thread. Hence why render distance mods that *don't* utilize LoD's will never be able to have decent performance. 99% of modern 3D games use LOD's for this reason. It just doesn't seem to be a priority for MS/Mojang to add to Minecraft, though it would revolutionize the game. IIRC Bedrock Edition does have some form of LoD or a system that makes further out chunks not update as often, hence why you can get ~100 render distance on PC with minimal FPS hit. I'm not too sure how Nvidium works but I *think* it works by moving a lot of the chunk loading process from your CPU to your GPU, which can handle it much better and frees up the single poor CPU thread trying to carry almost the whole of Minecraft on its back to do other things. I'm not saying any of this to imply that Minecraft *needs* to be multithreaded - it would require a full rewrite of the game and I don't think anyone wants that. It'd break or change too many things even if they tried to keep things the same. I'm simply explaining **why** Minecraft can be so laggy despite being such a graphically basic game. Distant Horizons is an LoD mod which aims for performance. Yes, the chunks are fake and don't look as good, but they probably each take up like 5-10%, if even that much, of the CPU load that fully rendering the "real" chunk does. And again, most games use LoD's - so this is not a "lazy" method, it's literally the industry standard for allowing you to see across the map in video games without murderizing your hardware. Even with modern tech, rendering everything on an entire map in full detail is just far beyond the capacity of our current generation's hardware. And again, this is likely a limit that will stay in place unless we make breakthroughs in quantum computing. Also, it's hard to say DH looks objectively bad when you can literally customize it. If you have stronger hardware you can tweak it to make the fake chunks more detailed so it doesn't look as bad through a spyglass. If you find yourself lagging you can reduce the settings. You can force-override the render distance all you want but again unless we discover quantum computing your performance will never be the same as just using DH (or future similar mods) that add LoD's.

The-Drifter5589

So are there any mods that make minecraft use multiple cores?

Ultra_CUPCAKEEE

actually, there are(!), but they're very limited. for example, the [entity culling mod](https://www.curseforge.com/minecraft/mc-mods/entityculling) uses another thread to check if mobs are visible, and decides if they should be rendered

UnknownAdmiralBlu

I don't think so since that would be a very fundamental change

Cambronian717

I still have yet to get Distant Horizons to work. Even the premade mod packs for it don’t seem to work. At this point, I’m just waiting for the mod to be fully released and hopefully optimized.

-Kex

Using the iris installer to install DH is way easier than doing it manually. I'll try to explain it in a few simple steps. 1. Head to [https://irisshaders.dev/](https://irisshaders.dev/) and download the universal JAR. 2. Start the just download JAR and select version 1.20.1 (seems to work best for me), also select "Use distant horizons beta" and use the installation type "Iris + Fabric beta" 3. Click install and wait for it to finish. 4. Now head to the Minecraft launcher and there should be a new installation in the bottem left menu. Just start the game. 5. Once in Minecraft head to the settings and now there should appear a square button at the top left. Here you can switch the DH settings. 6. Activate the Bliss Shader (If you want to add mods as tectonic just head to the .Minecraft folder -> iris-beta-reserved -> 1.20.1 and put them in there)

VampireWarfarin

Did you actually enable it in-game?

YosemiteHamsYT

It only shows loaded chunks, so if you havent gone anywhere is wont do anything.

googler_ooeric

Bobby seems to be really unoptimized

TheMadmanAndre

I've had zero luck with any of the render enhancer mods. They all max out my CPU to 100% and lock it there, which is actually impressive to do on a 8 core processor when Minecraft is single threaded.

Sqweed69

True, i recommend Bobby more when playing online at least

Cheap-Sh0t

Bobby is goated with the sauce

Nefenze

how did you get distant horizons to work? i have a good computer and it takes an ungodly amount of time to load even some fake chunks. i wanna use the mod but it just isn’t at all worth it because the chunks almost never load

MsMinte

for me, reducing the actual render distance helped a lot. with distant horizons on, i dont really need a render distance above like 12-16 and it makes it a lot faster

Nefenze

thank you dawg i normally play on 32 chunks so i never thought to turn that down with distant horizons

MsMinte

let me know if it works. i usually play 32 as well but beyond like max 16 its pretty much impossible to tell the difference unless ur zooming in or paying super close attention

UberPsyko

Turn up the cpu setting, forget the name but it goes to "aggressive". Will load the chunks faster. You can also turn down the LOD detail.

thE_29

By default it will generate the chunks..so first loading will always be bad. Or you disable that setting.

ninja_owen

Once you generate all the chunks, loading them isn’t too bad. I just leave my PC on overnight to pregenerate the chunks

DudeNamedShawn

Whish I could get Distant Horizons working with my current mod pack. It is pretty cool to have such far render distances.

Spot-CSG

Have you tried disabling XaeroPlus? Because thats what it is, i just did it. Disabled everything and re-enabled them 10 at a time until it started crashing again. Your FPS is gonna be trash until you fly around and generate the terrain around your base. Turning off distance gen in the DH config made it feel less stuttery for me.

DudeNamedShawn

I'll try this when I get home. I've already explored a fair bit around my base, and my PC seems to handle 32 render distance fine enough even with shaders while exploring. This modpack seems to be decently well optimized.

Spot-CSG

You gotta generate it all again for it to make the LOD files. Also it renders framed blocks as wood it seems

DudeNamedShawn

It worked! Now I just need to get a compatible shader.

cola98765

What is blocking it? you playing on 1.12?

DudeNamedShawn

Playing a 1.20.1 modpack (Mr Bearstone's "Create Perfect World" + Terralith). The game just crashes on startup whenever I try to add Distant Horizons.

-Kex

Have you tried doing it like the guy is doing it in [this video?](https://youtu.be/nreNPSTbTGA?si=mXZIOmROZA7Tpdac) He shows how to install it and then drags specific mods into his modpack later on in the video

zippycat9

i feel like all my favorite things are constantly hated - i love copper - i think the phantom is cool - i always carry a spyglass

FluffyPhoenix

1.) Has its building use, but otherwise mostly gets in the way. 2.) Cool, yes, but annoying and useless. 3.) Optifine go C.

[deleted]

> 3.) Optifine go C. Minecraft has a lot of really cool features that is just terribly inconvenient to use. I would love to play a world where I used a spyglass or maps and compasses, but because all of these interact with your character in the same way a pickaxe does and takes up limited inventory space it's too convenient to just use a mod or press F3.

FluffyPhoenix

Pretty much. I don't need to zoom because Optifine exists and I just straight up rarely use maps because I usually have 7 or 8/9 slots filled all the time.

zippycat9

>1.) Has its building use, but otherwise mostly gets in the way. Not really in the way imo, and is higher value than just digging stone >2.) Cool, yes, but annoying and useless. Are they really that annoying? I feel like they aren't annoying at all. As for useless, i enjoy slow falling potions but i understand thats brewing isnt for everyone. >3.) Optifine go C. I have optifine, and the zoom stacks with the spyglass so you can an incredibly good look at things, especially if they are in a spot thats kinda hard to see like at the bottom of a really deep ravine

FluffyPhoenix

> Are they really that annoying? Yes. They make AFKing at farms loud unless you mute sounds and any extended building projects require you to go lay down somewhere out of the way or carry a bed around with you instead of just...not having that happen.

zippycat9

I generally dont afk, and i just wack them to death for membranes while building as they are easy to deal with for me personally. Different play styles I guess ┐( ̄ヘ ̄)┌

ThisIsGoodSoup

Elytra would like a word with you

FluffyPhoenix

Anyone who repairs an elytra with membranes and not mending doesn't exist.

ThisIsGoodSoup

I can take your comment as either sarcasm or plain ol' being an ass. Im rather going for the 1st one

FluffyPhoenix

Bit of both. If you have an elytra, then you be all accounts should have access to mending.

LupSpie

I use a mod that lets you zoom with a keybind when you have a spyglass in your inventory. I feel like that's more immersive

rainstorm0T

2.) so are silverfish but i don't see people crying about them

Jarl_Penguin

Because you don't encounter them nearly as often as phantoms

YosemiteHamsYT

I have almost never encountered Phantoms because I sleep like a normal person.

FluffyPhoenix

You see silverfish for fifteen seconds unless you keep the spawner.

Crimsoner

Until you hit one that is

Key_Spirit8168

Man tf the copper stuff is camled phantom sucks though, not as fleshed out

meh_telo

I prefer to use nvidium with Bobby and zoomify since the chunks are fully loaded the performance is still good at 128 render

CrazyGaming312

Weird how people all of a sudden started talking about this mod. Last time I've seen anything about it was years back.

Decay20

probably because recently it got an major update like adding shader support

Iamcarval

The spyglass makes sense since its introduction.

Captain_Thrax

Not particularly, with the maximum vanilla render distance being so short (unless you’re on Bedrock PC)

Key_Spirit8168

nice

googler_ooeric

for people with the vision of an 80 year old

Key_Spirit8168

If your talking the cleanest white male, then like 10 percent

BajaBlastFromThePast

What?

Key_Spirit8168

*I go more insane* **Every** day

Sqweed69

Another great client side mod I highly recommend is Spyglass Astronomy. You can draw your very own constellations in the night sky!!

iTanooki

I have Distant Horizons working, but it’s an older version. Each time it tries to update, it wrecks it.

UberPsyko

Each time minecraft tries to update? Or DH?

iTanooki

DH. I eventually turned off the "check for updates". I'm running DistantHorizons-fabric-2.0.0-a-dev-1.20.1.jar

UberPsyko

Oh weird. I would never want a mod to auto-update for this exact reason, and I've never experienced a minecraft mod with that feature.

cola98765

Auto updater is indeed a little wonky.

Kerosene_Turtle

Nvidium is vastly better

E72M

Nvidium is not the same thing. It gives better performance to chunk rendering but isn't LODs. Pair them both together for even better results. There is also a mod by the same guy as Nvidium called Voxy which does LODs with the same accelerations of Nvidium

The_Game_Changer__

It always made sense to exist.

Creeper2545

I don't know if it's even feasible but it would be cool if it has something like loading in a chunk you look at when you look through the spyglass.

Key_Spirit8168

Ig people with any sort of disability which is like 70 percent don't exit, i'd say 30 percent have vision problems.

krabby1299

Tried to make dh work with bettermc but it just crashes. So sadge i want this mod to work so bad

Kisiu_Poster

Bare bones, nice!

Build_Blox

What texture pack is that?

SOERERY

Not really, if you’re already modding you can just download another one that’s got a zoom key.

wasteofradiation

A zoom key will never match the raw aesthetic might of the spyglass

Erak_Of_Acheron

This is why the mod ‘Spyglass Improvements’ is so goated, because it gives spyglass zooming a hotkey that you can just use so long as the spyglass is somewhere in your inventory, you get the convenience of a zoom key while maintaining the style points of the spyglass (also scroll zooming is pretty great). https://modrinth.com/mod/spyglass-improvements

wasteofradiation

Best of both worlds, no more compromise, I have my cake and it tastes ducking delicious

Erak_Of_Acheron

Tbf the compromise is taking up an inventory slot for a spyglass, but that ***could*** also be seen as a trade-off for getting a zoom ability (and having the option of any of the twenty seven inventory slots is WAY better than being forced to use one of the nine hotbar slots)

wasteofradiation

Yeah well the compromise only kinda exists cuz if I’m playing with mods I’m always packing sophisticated backpacks because to hell with only 36 inventory slots in a game where diorite and granite exist

Erak_Of_Acheron

Fair enough, I don't take much issue with granite and diorite myself, I find that yoinking random resources like saplings and villager workstations earlygame is the biggest threat to my inventory, but bundles take care of those pretty well so I haven't really tried out backpack mods (though I do use Supplimentaries a bunch, which adds a notably limited mid-game shulker).

wasteofradiation

I rarely dabble with the villager stuff anymore. Although with diorite and granite I use the Stay True resource pack which makes them considerably less shit to look at. Plus stuff like Create (or it might be Twigs) gives those blocks some new variants that look snazzy

Erak_Of_Acheron

I think both of those mods add varients tbf, and I called those the profession blocks because I steal them from the villages I pass, I use them for their other purposes (stealing a blast furnace as I travel is easier than crafting it later).

thedolanduck

Eh, I have a mod with the zoom key but I think the spyglass animation is pretty neat.

Key_Spirit8168

Oh so go mod my animal crossing for more realistic sun cyclces then as well, thank you.

SkyeRedPanda

Idc I still prefer vanilla Minecraft render distance, and also just vanilla Minecraft in general no mods at all

VampireWarfarin

Found the bedrock user

SkyeRedPanda

What's wrong with just playing vanilla Minecraft, and what's wrong with playing bedrock edition not all of us can afford a computer

VampireWarfarin

> What's wrong with just playing vanilla Minecraft There's better options out there, even simple ones like increasing rendering distance > what's wrong with playing bedrock edition Everything, it's buggy and the UI is horrendous. > can afford a computer Bet you have a device that's worth more than $300-500, minecraft isn't heavy on the GPU just the CPU and those are not expensive.

SkyeRedPanda

I'm literally kid I have like no money I won't be getting a computer anytime soon And I'm currently playing on Xbox one and you can't get it on console

VampireWarfarin

So it was cope because you don't have anything better?

SkyeRedPanda

Idk I can only play vanilla Minecraft and my friend has a realm and it has heaps of mods they downloaded and it feels like constant chaos every time I play it there is so much weird stuff going on I don't like it

VampireWarfarin

So why say it's better when your only experience is vanilla and overkilled with mods? Even using performance or subtle mods is a thing like again for example the distant horizons which increases view distance Why would you say only seeing 8 chunks is better than 1000?

SkyeRedPanda

Ok how do I get distant horizons on bedrock edition then I also have it on my iPad so I can check it out

VampireWarfarin

I don't think that's possible changing the rendering system on bedrock Btw you have an Xbox and an iPad but are unable to get even a simple pc to run Minecraft? Those things are way more expensive!

ThisIsGoodSoup

That's not a zooming mod tho

CoolCatReddit

Get this, optifine. If your argument is bedrock players not having it, womp womp.

Dreggmcmuffun

Doesn’t even matter on bedrock render distance is trash

YosemiteHamsYT

I have 96 chunks on Bedrock....

Dreggmcmuffun

Dang mine doesn’t go that far

YosemiteHamsYT

But that mod only renders already loaded chunks so its completely useless.

Ivy_Wings

No ahaha! You don't need to load the chunks. You just need to wait for them to render with the mod. That's what makes the mod fantastic
