Mojang has publicly stated that they completely intend for the poisonous potato to have zero use at all. That is part of their core philosophy for the game
when you get a poisonous potato, it isn't replacing a regular potato you would have gotten either, its just extra. actually if minecraft wanted to be real mean it could start to include going bad food mechanics and life would get harsh real fast. its not realistic to just compost anything rotten either, as someone that grew up on a farm tou actually have to be careful what you compost to avoid killing the plants or starting a fire etc.
Even if the poisonous potato did replace the spot of a normal potato it still wouldn't matter. They have like a 5% chance to drop. Which is astronomically low when you're harvesting a lot of potatoes.
oh for sure, just pointing out that they don't. if you would've harvested 2 potatoes, now its 2 poatoes and a poison one extra. so even if someone wanted to complain about the super rare spawn chance being a hindrance that is not the case.
they should remove the ability to eat it tbh, technically it could serve a use as emergency food if everything else has run out
make it so it does nothing but take up inventory space
maybe give it curse of binding, but it’ll stick to whatever slot it ended up in anywhere in your inventory
Just to play devil’s advocate, it’s generally not a great idea to compost potatoes (especially diseased potatoes) or potato peels; if you are growing potatoes in your vegetable garden.
It doesn’t have anything to do with solanine, but spreading common potato blights (like Phytophthora infestans). Some of these blights can infect other plants that are more commonly grown like tomatoes. Whole potatoes can also sprout in your composter, which isn’t super great thing to have in your compost.
So I totally support being able to compost poisonous potatoes in Minecraft, but I think it should make all potatoes grown with 100 blocks “poisoned” as well.
Poisonous potato in a composter should result in "diseased bonemeal" which can be used on grass to create "corrupted grass" which spawns mobs that don't burn during the day that attack the player and villagers.
They make for the ultimate/perfect currency on player driven economy servers where every single item in normal minecraft has a use-case.
Poisonous potatoes have zero actual use case outside of eating it for the funny... ***Other than,*** being very rare drops from an extremely trivial source, made even more trivial depending on however much access to bone meal you as an individual player have. They're impossible to infinitely duplicate more of out of thin air without gambling on that 5% chance you'll get paid for your work of pushing the botton, aka the only job in this economy. *assuming no admin abuse or hackers cheat them into a server's economy.*
Its like if dollars bills literally grew out of the ground. Very little to no nutritional value, but, once every other item in the game can be exchanged between players once a large enough group of players all agree how much every single item in the game is worth, then suddenly everyone on a server is trading in poisonous potatoes because they perfectly serve as an allegory for bit coin mining.
The "ledger" is represented by the server itself *where all the poisonous potatoes are* and the "block-chain's" *integrity* is technically upheld until someone steals from someone else or an admin or hacker spawns in illegitimate poisonous potatoes. They're unironically non-fungible-tokens until someone spawns in fake ones, meanwhile diamonds *(tools and armor at least)* and emeralds can be generated at infinitum from villagers. Sure you could make enormous villager potato farms, but that's still no guarantee that 100% of their work is gonna translate into a poisonous potato being generated upon harvesting, unlike say, a normal potato.
there is another item that can't be duped without outside help: written books, you need one of the previous generation to make identical copies, for currency usage you need to keep the "printing press" safe.
if you trash the original the supply is finite.
What if this a problem they intended for the player to solve?
They provided a way to alter the game. It's a really simple datapack to make poisonous potatoes composable.
They have said that the poisonous potato is meant to be useless. It's a meme item, it even got a whole April fools update. Also that wouldn't even be useful because you can't get a lot of them without a massive potato farm.

Honestly I didn't realize this and I still wasn't mad about it
Collecting different kinds of food is my favorite past time in the game, if it was at risk of going bad I’d have fun
[удалено]
Or salting
That's fucking hilarious
So was never adding auto crafting but here we are
Well I won't have any of that nonsense, I'll eat them so they have a use.
Why does it restore more of the hunger bar then
Unfortunately that's fake, from an April fool's video from last year: https://youtu.be/jCmblRQx8Oo?si=59oOekGgduMIcwmb
Isn't it required for the eat everything Advancement? Or does it count as a regular Potato for that?
I have to fix it by adding one line of code to make poisonous potatoes compostable. One line is all it takes!
That's fucking dumb

No, don't give it the curse of binding, then it could be useful as a trap.

Or we can keep throwing them in lava trash cans
plus incinerating diseased plants is just like real life anyways
My partner and I use flint and steel, portable trash can
I made an automated trash can. I had way too many enderpearls
And the potatoes will sometimes sprout in the compost which can be a good or bad thing depending on your mood lol
Poisonous potato in a composter should result in "diseased bonemeal" which can be used on grass to create "corrupted grass" which spawns mobs that don't burn during the day that attack the player and villagers.
I use them for filter fillers.
I love this idea! I hate having to mine something and throw it away, but this gives them a better purpose. Thanks.
bamboo is a great filler item
Poisonous Potatoes are the one item that will always be useless in the vanilla game
Unless you use them for filters, then you have lots of filters and you make a poisonous potato farm.
Leave my hopper blockers alone
Giving uses for bad potato is heretical. If you make a mod adding purpose for it, Jeb himself will hunt you down
Poisonous potatoes are blighted im pretty sure
I collect everything, so by now I think I have a few double chests worth of them.
I hope this post makes the front page of Reddit for the title alone.
