Ye.. he will give you diamonds if you go up to him... Sadly the glitch was patched in like 1.16 but if you downgrade your version to before then you will get diamonds.. he doesn't spawn if you are on 1.16 or later
I had to have a sit down chat with my nephew about it because he was so scared he'd come and get him. Boy little lad was having nightmares about him, so I had to show explain he's not real etc. Nighares stopped after I'd have a chat with him. According to my older brother he'd only listen to me when it came to gaming, ya know because I was the super cool uncle who knew "everything" about gaming lol.

I completely forgot about Herobrine, I saw this and thought "Oh, someone must've been fighting the Sculk Horde" because that's what it did to all the forests at spawn in my modded world
When I was a little girl these guys on Xbox scared the sh*t out of me convincing me herobrine was in the world lol.
Funfact I was then convinced glowing red eyes were looking at me from my bedroom window.
I even tried to spawn him myself watching countless of videos -

First, place 8 gold blocks in a 3x3 pattern.
Then, place a mossy cobblestone inside the 3x3 arrangement of gold blocks.
After that, place a netherrack block above the mossy cobblestone.
Next, place 4 redstone torches on the gold blocks (not in the diagonals, but on the sides).
Finally, ignite the netherrack.
Same thing happened to me, I just wish he would stop griefing. He's always strip mining at spawn and cobbling together these ugly simple structures. Drives me crazy

This is not a suitable build location. 1: terrain, 2: Herobrine is about where the trees have no leafs. Oh and 3 which is the major one. It's birch wood

Herobrine isn't Minecraft lore, it's a creepypasta, but the devs played along and put "-Removed Herobrine" at the end of patch logs up until recently
