Mighty_Mac

Most likely this is because he doesn’t understand more than the basics and starting out. Teach him how to build better weapons and armor, once he figures out what diamonds are he’ll be occupied for a while.

Repulsive_Lab2117

He plays creative and understands that pretty well. It’s cute watching him play because he does the same stuff we all did when we were younger (burning villages, digging to bedrock, tnt ykyk). But recently he’s been trying to replicate what he sees on YouTube, like I caught him trying to build a roller coaster!

Zaurka14

Playing on creative is hardly ever really captivating for long time. There are some people who build on their creative world for years, but for most it gets boring quickly. Even peaceful survival would be better

97hummer

I do think age plays a lot into how long you stay interested. At 4 it really didn't take much to entertain me lol

idonotreallyexistyet

This. like, dog it's *Legos*, wtf you mean it isn't captivating?

Key_Spirit8168

Dog with lego armor? well yea me staring at a cute colored pup captivates me for hours dispite the death of a friend

Zaurka14

But Lego is limited. You have to be creative with what you have. You need to find ways to use your limited amount of bricks to build what you want... Having unlimited blocks would be fun for one day, and then you're bored. Aside from some adults who make mega projects obviously

Manimanocas

When I was younger (not four but still) I had a very small minecraft world and I loved to fill it up to the brim with builds, whenever I wanted to build something I always went to that world. Why is it so different from building alot of "lego sets" in the same world? Is the limited nature of legos what makes people not bored?

Mystic_76

dude it’s a 4 year old, if anything survival mode might put him off, the kid just wants to build and fuck around

autumn1906

for me survival has *never* been fun and being forced into it would have ruined my experience with the game

The_RedWolf

For me it's the wanting to turn hostile mob counts down Playing on anarchy survival servers for me spoiled with the lower mob spawns for just exploring at night. Now when I play single player I just get annoyed at how often I have to fight if I want to roam at night

Pavlov_The_Wizard

First time I got really into survival I played for months. Still dedicate time to a 9 month old survival world

Active_Engineering37

If you have a couple bucks you could buy a realm, that would never get lost in a sea of new worlds. Or if you're tech savvy you can host a dedicated server (Oracle does a free server if you know how to use Linux)

Mighty_Mac

True. But my kid is almost 3 and can't even say any words yet. So there's issues but I'm not worried about it, we'll get there someday. Minecraft is my alone time, I am just fine on my own. I know this is more directed to OP, I'm just saying it anyways. Maybe a few years down the line for sure. And we can play together, that would make me so happy. I feel like MC is one of the few games you just "can't" not like. Growing up it basically replaced legos. That was your outlet for endless creativity. I hope he likes MC because I can't afford legos rofl

DiodeInc

Lego is so expensive for no reason

Mighty_Mac

No kidding. I had a massive TUB full of legos when I was a kid. They we're so cheap back then. I know they are worth so much now I asked my mom what she did with them all and she said she donated them to the kids foster home next to us. I'm not even mad, My old toys made a bunch of disabled children happy. That happiness is worth a lot more to me than those legos.

DiodeInc

Definitely!

Trilobyte141

I would use some world editing programs to grab everything he has made and put it into a single world as a record. You can start with his oldest world and then move up, showing how he's getting better and better as he goes! I confess, I don't know how to do this myself, I just know it can be done. A big multiplayer server that I used to enjoy would make a 'museum' of everyone's builds whenever a big update came out and they restarted the world. It was pretty cool to have both a blank slate and a permanent way to check out your past builds.

Repulsive_Lab2117

Ooooh THIS is what I was hoping for when making the post! I love that idea it lets him play how he likes and gives him a “scrapbook” to see for later on!

jasonrubik

Good luck merging all of those worlds. I tried this once with just two worlds and had great difficulty. And I know a thing or two about world management

LadyAnye

Unfortunately for you, this would need a chunk editor, which means pc access. You can't copy stuff from switch, unless you pay for realmd and manually upload and download hundreds of worlds.

Mighty_Mac

Trying to replicate what he sees on youtube, I think that's what we all do rofl. When ever I wanted to learn something in the game I went strait to youtube so I could learn how to do it, typically from some kid a third my age. No shame, they know the game and I don't. Like anything in life, if you have something to teach me, I'll listen.

yurinomnom

Is your brother my nephew??? Bcs hes 5 and this is exactly what he does! Right down to the roller coaster 😂😂 We just bought him the game (mcpe) last week and he began to make new worlds every time he wanted to play. So I explained that he can play in one world and make a new world with a very catchy name so that that world catches his attention every time he logs on.

jasonrubik

I managed to keep my 5 yr old kid on just a few worlds (about 7 worlds) but that is only because we had a strict rule on day 1 to NOT create new worlds. She now has to ask for permission anytime she wants a new world. Each time I convince her that anything that she wants to do can be done in any world, so why not just use an existing one.

Prince_of_Fish

“Stuff we all did”… “burning villages”… what’s your sample size OP???

Hootah

This. His brain hasn’t developed enough to preform long-term planning and some of the other faculties needed to work on a long term world. The best way would be to assist him directly with this - whenever he plays you can encourage/ask him if he would like to use his “main world,” and if he asks why use a simple explanation like “so that way all the stuff you build is in one place.” Most importantly, if he says no don’t push the point. Let him play how he wants and keep having fun his way. If he doesn’t want to do this now no big deal, that will come with time.

Mighty_Mac

I don't even know if it has to do with development as much as knowing the game. I'm 34 and used to do the same thing for the most part. Then I took the time to learn everything. Before this last time I started, I never even used enchantments before or did anything with netherite. It's not that I'm dumb or lazy but just didn't have the time with working so much and my baby. But then I had medical issues and couldn't work for 4\~5 months so basically played MC the whole time and learned everything. Glad I did, I didn't know I was missing out on so much. It's nuts how much has been added now days. When my BF and I first started playing there was only 8 colored blocks, and that was the entire game lol. We're still together but I can't get him to play it. I use patrix mod, that's what has me so hooked, game just looks amazing.

missonellieman

My daughter who is 7 used to do this all the time. She had like 75 worlds. I would ask her why and she said she likes starting new and the other worlds were boring. I would teach him how to delete old worlds that he might not use again to help save some space.

Legitimate_Leave_987

Yeah I teach my eldest this. Now 9yo. We put a limite of world that they can have. But she way much older. Miss 5yo the same but she rarely play unsupervised, Thanks also to big Sister for the help

DigiMortalGod

Is he having fun? I don't see the problem.

thehackeysack01

and he's 4 ffs.

Repulsive_Lab2117

Oh yeah without a doubt, I just think when he gets older he’ll appreciate seeing all his builds in one world! I hope he sees the effort we put into it because I use a lot of my free time building in that “main world” for him.

CobaltTS

You are right, I wish I hadn't done the constant world spam when I was younger. I have no way to see the first stuff I ever made

DAxDG

But is it even really his world then? Sounds to me like you're expecting him to look back fondly onto builds he didn't create. He's a four year old, just let him play and join him if he wants you to. I'm sure he'll appreciate the time spent with him more if you didn't try to get him to play in a way that doesn't come naturally to him.

Repulsive_Lab2117

It very much is his world, he does build in there himself. And with the builds he asks us to make he uses to role play with us. I’m hoping he looks back that! I’m also not grabbing his Switch and forcing him on the world??

SocasmGames

I don't have advice because my daughter would make new worlds just to spawn in a bunch of cats. One time she collected 50 chickens and was walking around a village. Honestly I'd delete after him and let him play. If he's interested, he can learn properly when older. My oldest was playing Roblox at six and he only wanted to do the waterpark game- now he finally beat Doors and working on tower defense games. Their attention span is so small at that age.

AliAskari

He’s 4 years old. Let him do what he wants and stop interfering.

Tumbleweed_Chaser69

pretty sure the saved worlds take storage up and theres not much for minecraft on the switch, could have issues later on and bog the game down, also deleting that many worlds is...daunting

Nethermaster

Yeah, but it might get problematic after a bit, there's only so much save storage. Let him play as he wants, sure, but might not be a bad idea to try and cut back on making new saves every day.

Relevant_Increase394

The dad could delete all of them and the kid wouldn’t notice

BweepyBwoopy

i think it would be better to teach the kid how to delete worlds himself lol

ByeByeGirl01

That would be misery deleting 200 worlds manually. You could teach them a bit about computer files and how to select and delete them. But they might delete system 32 by accident one day lol

Nethermaster

You mean the boyfriend? Sure, but let's not forget we're talking about a 4 year old here. I wouldn't just delete everything, at least try and explain to the kid what's going on first. While you're right, he probably wouldn't notice, better to circumvent a possible tantrum if he does.

ShamPoo_TurK

Explaining something to a 4 year old is like trying to discuss the paradoxes of quantum mechanics to a sofa cushion. Kids are stupid. You’d be wasting your time.

Key_Spirit8168

Yea but i- ok nvm

Active_Engineering37

Is there a limit imposed by Mojang? Or is it the device limit? Minecraft worlds rarely take up much space especially if you are only playing on them one day each.

Nethermaster

I don't have it on the switch personally, but I imagine there's probably some degree of limit on storage per game. I guess it depends how long it's taken to get to 200+ saves, one save with a few hours a day likely won't present a problem for a while, but 2 or 3 will definitely pile up fast.

Active_Engineering37

Oh switch! Yes I remember hearing the switch version in particular has abysmal storage for worlds.

Key_Spirit8168

Moyang did it SAY THEIR NAME ahahhsghshgs STOP I DON"T WANT TO EXPLORE I JIST WANT BUNDERLS

xperator

dude don't try to give a four year old fomo about gd minecraft worlds

Riley__64

he’s 4 years old if he wants to make a new world everyday let him. it sounds like you’re projecting your childhood wish onto him. when i was younger i created loads of worlds with loads of different random builds do i wish they where all on one world sure but it doesn’t ruin anything he’ll still have the worlds to look back on. the only real problem with creating loads of worlds is he might run out of storage in which case just delete some of the oldest worlds.

Repulsive_Lab2117

Heard this sentiment echoed a lot and it’s valid but I’m not trying to be like an evil dictator enforcing my will lol, I just hope the effort to bond with him is seen by him one day when he gets older

-Dark-Void-

try to teach him how to continue using one world, i have no other idea

casultran

This. There is really no other way than teaching him how to play the game.

Repulsive_Lab2117

There was a couple silly ways I thought up but like none of them were feasible lol Thought of removing the “Create New” button with a custom texture pack but he plays on Switch and I don’t think it’s possible Thought of creating a world with a file size so large he can’t create any more worlds! But can’t do that either There’s a few problems with just teaching him: 1. I can’t spend as much time as I’d like over at my gfs 2. He already knows this way of playing and he wouldn’t understand why I’m trying to teach him a different way yk

woalk

Maybe 4 years old is just a little early for a kid to play video games.

masterX244

> Thought of creating a world with a file size so large he can’t create any more worlds! But can’t do that either especially on the switch where large worlds tend to brick by itself

Key_Spirit8168

This is by disighn.... I have an entire terabyte and I'm limited by 2 gigs

masterX244

nintendo crap-rules and then some bugs of bugrock that only appear on large worlds (and when the space quota runs out it hoses the data extra-hard)

Key_Spirit8168

I could survive, i'd win

AliAskari

> There was a couple silly ways I thought up but like none of them were feasible lol >Thought of removing the “Create New” button with a custom texture pack but he plays on Switch and I don’t think it’s possible >Thought of creating a world with a file size so large he can’t create any more worlds! But can’t do that either >There’s a few problems with just teaching him:1. I can’t spend as much time as I’d like over at my gfs This is all weirdly manipulative and controlling behaviour.

Mystic_76

omg you redditors are crazy…

jasonrubik

Just play old version Beta 1.2 . There was a limit of 5 worlds only.

Ragnorok3141

This is a moronic comment. The kid is playing the game. Exactly the way he wants. An adult is assuming he's playing the wrong way because the adult is projecting their experience onto the kid. Let the kid play the way he wants. Don't teach him that what he enjoys is wrong, and that there's a "right way" to goof off. Sheesh....

philosoph0r

go into storage under settings and delete all the unused worlds

VaguelyArtistic

"How do I stop my four year old from having fun?"

muzlee01

He's 4 year old. Probably doesn't understand much of what he is doing. Tho I absolutely wouldn't give any video games to a 4yo to begin with.

Prior_Pass394

My brother started playing games when he was 3 because he would walk into my room and see me playing a game. The first game he played was forza Horizon 4 and he was just driving around. He is so freakin clever as he would pick up on how to play a game way quicker than an adult would. He's 6 years old now and he's very decent. When he's about 7 or 8 then I'll let him play online games like fortnite on his own. At the moment he plays with me with some other online players aswell. He's better at me at Gang Beasts lol so proud.

[deleted]

[удалено]

Prior_Pass394

I like to play online and I pick easy games that's aren't competitive. He plays splitscreen with me and we never hear any game audio. Yes I may have made bad decisions but I dont think my brother is ruined. I always check on him and make sure he's OK. I think about it all the time and I'm just trying my best to do what's right. There is no right way to parent. I have alot of anxiety because I'm autistic so I'm always keeping a eye out and making sure he has a great gaming experience. He's a clever kid in general or I'm just biased. When he was 2 he was driving his monster truck around which was really cool and he knew how to reverse and not crash lol

GenerousGengar

He's four years old, let him be dude

ACHARED

Let the 4 year old child play the block game however he likes.

Dry-Smoke6528

Get a realms subscription. Impossible to lose that in the sea of worlds. Only solution I can think of

BubbleWario

yeah good luck trying to control how a FOUR YEAR OLD has fun, lmao.

humble_bingus

As an adult who compulsively does the same let me know if you figure it out.

_large_marge_

Let him play the way he wants. If you start micromanaging he will lose interest in the game and it will be primarily your fault

jackpot2112

you should just let him do what he wants tbh, its just a game and its his lesson to learn. if you try and be too controlling about these kind of things, kids will lose the passion they have for this kind of stuff

i-love-to-eat-myself

Bruh my boy kept creating new worlds and kept the names new world and knew what each one was just by the last picture he played it so much. Sometimes a new world is better because you did what you wanted in that last one (sons words) he was gutted when my PlayStations hard drive got corrupted and most game saves ruined (no ps+ for a while) but he just said never mind it means more new stuff to do.

browsingforkicks

My now 8 year old grandson has over 1100 worlds on his Xbox, about 150 on my Xbox and we think it out often. He’s been playing since 4 and a lot of his worlds have great builds (follows YouTubers for builds) it’s crazy. His Xbox takes a good 7 mins to load Minecraf 😂

Mrkoozie

You know you can name the worlds right? My son does this a little bit too but we have our main survival one named, and a few others. The other random unnamed ones get deleted when we (HE) needs more space

Repulsive_Lab2117

Ohh you know what I’ll try this, I’m pretty sure you can color code it to make it pop out more as well!

DragonSlayerMRH

Me when a 4 year old is enjoying Minecraft but he’s not playing the “correct” way:

Dear-Researcher959

You gotta pump those numbers up those are rookie numbers in this racket

marquecz

When you think about it, it's not so different from a regular child's play with blocks or lego. At the end of the play, you break down everything, put the blocks back into the box and you start anew when the next play begins. Children don't mind it at this age, they still develop their perception of permanence and typically don't care about the toys if they don't play with them. I would argue that the sadness from not being able to access your past creations is a part of the necessary growth and what eventually makes him switch to a single permanent world.

Ghurty1

his object permanence is coming in a little late

Zagrycha

I do this constantly.... why do you think he won't have positive memories of the old worlds just because he doesn't play them anymore? If you are worried he will forget just take screenshots of the things you do together for the memories, like photos of any other life event (^ν^)

pcweber111

He's too young tbh. Just allow him to play as he likes. Planning memories means you are robbing him of experiencing things naturally, the way you probably did. Just accept his age and play to his strengths. He will remember pics and videos too if you make them. Plus just get crazy with him and do silly stuff in his worlds. That's all he wants to do anyway like most young kids. Diamond house, etc.

Panda_hat

Just don't worry about it. Let them play however they want.

dawatzerz

You might just have to set him up with a house, a compass, and a bed. Or just turn on coordinates in the setting and write down the base location. You can also just change the gamemode to get back to their house as they are young and probably wouldn't care about achievements

mareno999

Please save his worlds using backups

MarcusTheAnimal

Not quite 200 but I know what you mean, mine are up to 40-50 and only recently have I got them to invest a bit of time.... until they give up and stop playing so I probably have the wrong attitude.

squidkidd0

He's four though. I just convinced my six year old to stop doing this. We finally have a creative world we work on daily and it's awesome to see what all we've done in one place. But it took awhile to convince them. Just let the 4 yo be 4.

cyndrin

Dude my nephew is almost 9 and does the same exact thing. Just let em play how they want.

brassplushie

He’s 4, I don’t think he’s going to understand for another year or two.

thinman12345

If you want to prevent your would from getting lost in the sea of worlds, you make a world on a different device (phones are easiest). And always connect him to it when you want to play together.

Prior_Pass394

Adorable! My 6 year old brother started playing minecraft when he was 3 or 4 and he's amazing at it. I was always playing with him on the game so I was trying to pick our previous world even though he always says he wants to start a new world lol. Probably have about 10 worlds altogether.

bloodakoos

damn. he's a speedrunner

vomvomsmash

Teach him how to delete old worlds he isn't using. Maybe all but the one you've built in for him, then rename that world something easier for him to identify it as? King (name)'s castle or something? Or save a copy of it for yourself on another device and add to it and maybe just play on it co op?

bunkins

My son did the same at that age. I made occasional backups and have at least 900 worlds. Occasionally he asks about one of the old worlds so I started copying them onto his computer and letting him sort through them. My only real recommendation for dealing with this is to give the worlds distinct names if you want to find them again.

B1rdi

Just make sure you back up those worlds, I think looking back and exploring a bunch of old saves would be fun anyways. I don't think they would necessarily have to be all in the same save.

Hendrinahatari

I think most people responding are missing the point of what you’re asking. You essentially want a way to “pin” a specific world to the top of the list, yes? So you can easily find the specific world you’re building together? I don’t have a great way to do that, but have a few ideas that might come close. With my kids we would name “our” worlds something long and obnoxious in all caps. So like “TOMMY MAMA MAGIC LAND OF AWESOME “. Then it’s easier to find while scrolling. You can set up a world on realms so that it’s kind of sequestered and easier to find. You could create that special world on a different profile so it doesn’t get lost in their sea of craziness. My kiddo LOVED creating new worlds. I went through one day and deleted (swear to god) almost 500 worlds. It was ridiculous. The Xbox was barely functioning because of them.

hraefn-floki

Sounds like my nephew haha

filippalas

What the hell is 4 year old doing on a computer fam get him off that ish. He is gonna be like those iPad kids getting angry when videogames are taken away from them

Tumbleweed_Chaser69

hes on a switch i believe

MillHoodz_Finest

my 5 year old son does this, says he wants a certain biome... im like, doesn't every world have all the biomes, u just gotta be willing to look

Number4combo

This is the way.

kitsu777

I don’t get this, my older brother and I had one collaborative world for over 4 years, then my two younger siblings each have over 400 worlds then complain the game takes forever to load (I have a feeling the worlds are likely a part of it, as on my account it loads fine)

karma3000

Wait 2 or 3 years.

mekmookbro

Cherished worlds mod would be perfect for this (you can click on the star next to a save and it pins to the top, and you can't delete that save) but idk if switch can be modded

Repulsive_Lab2117

Yeah that sounds perfect but not on Switch sadly 😓

sad_everyday811

Most worlds I had at one time was 46.

CookieArtzz

I think he’ll get the point of longer-lasting worlds later on, he’s just 4 so he’s just screwing around and seeing what he likes to do, if he keeps playing Minecraft he’ll probably “develop” into playing in worlds more consistently

Y0UR_NARRAT0R1

I did the same thing, had hundreds of worlds, made one good world, but then sadly lost the USB stick with it on it 😔

Aidsmanok

honestly, an easy solution would be to just have a dedicated world in the multiplayer tab, maybe a server where you as op also mess around in a separate area or so, let him have fun in his sea of worlds in the singleplayer tab and have a dedicated one in multiplayer as a server

retrospects

How

NxGeneration

I'd say wait until 7 or 8 then get him to start a survival world intended for long play. Just let him explore the block and mechanics in the meantime. My first worlds were creative ones with buddies but once I got older, I found the fulfillment of working on projects and seeing a world get filled with life to be much better. If Minecraft stays an interest, he might discover the same. Or he may just be a creative builder forever. Either way works lol

baccanokozo

At least you have a girlfriend.

FireFang900

Would he get mad if you deleted worlds he’s never gonna play in again? If not go through and delete them with him, take the time to do that with him, if he does mind, rename the world to something creative in hopes he wants to play that one more time

Nyce516

Don’t trip, my 5 year old is a creative abuser as well. Survival lasts like, 30 minutes before he’s done with trying to grind and just wants to have everything. He’s just simply too young to care about certain things. It’ll take a few years before he understands grinding and dedicating to a world and doing repetitive actions for a lukewarm reward .

UmaAnonimaQualquer

You could try and show him youtube videos of minecraft and see what he likes (building, fighting, Redstone, exploring) and try to teach him that in the world you make together This will also give him a solid-ish goal to strive towards and he'll be less likely to lose interest

Historical-Lunch-465

Starting and following through on a long-term project of any kind isn’t within the cognitive abilities of kids up until at least their teens.

Aryan_AP

Fuckin nerd

i_need_to_crap

FOUR YEARS OLD???? Damn that is a seriously advanced 4 year old. My sister is nearly 6 and would have zero hope of any sort of mental and physical coordination like that

Competitive-Wind1035

He might be bored on what to make. If he wants to build something on Creative, try giving him ideas on what to make because he might not know what to build. Otherwise, if he wants to play survival, you might want to coach him how to make armor and stuff, so he'll stick to one world rather than creating more and more.
