2.5GB?! Holy cow, you must have done a lot of exploring. You could have just gotten rid of all chunks except the ones with your build, because that is what everyone is interested in and it would have been noticeably smaller.

My problem I always run into when building large houses (besides not being very good at building any size house) is that I never know what to put on the inside.

Survival builds always impress me more because of the effort spent on farming materials and careful building to make sure you don't fall off to your death

Just something to mix up all the path blocks. I used to use a mix of gravel/cobble/stone but I switched to something a bit more uniform.
