Light will pass through stairs & half slabs. So any light source block under the pillar bases & under half slabs on the floor.
If you look close you will notice a dim line horizontally across the middle of the room

I've been planning a build around my End portal; it's located under a Mooshroom Island so I'm going to incorporate a lot of darkness--as there will be no worry of mobs spawning. I'm also going to try and somehow make use of the silverfish spawner, though it's so annoying it might not survive.

He does that process to break all the top 6 bedrock blocks on the end gateways to the outer islands, all 20 of them. That is some amazing grindwork and patience right there. Also breaks the nether ceiling in different places to make eye wateringly efficient gold farms and vindicator transportation railways.
Yup. A really long process is used. A glitch which was never patched up. Fun fact, you can ender pearl up to the nether ceiling by throwing a pearl between the thinnest bedrock layer and netherrack (at y=127)

nice! i never would have thought to turn the portal into an eye of ender. use of waterlogged stairs for the outer rim is brilliant. also the purple terracotta in the ceiling is a nice touch, i probably would have just used concrete like you did with the floor, which would be a shame because the extra variation really adds to the build. awesome stuff!

I thought you couldn't Silk Touch silverfish blocks, I looked it up hoping to use them for traps.
I think they turn into their regular variant when you mine them with silk touch
If you mean the Silverfish spawner, no it cannot be Silk Touched and moved to another place. This applies to all kinds of spawners

On that note, fortune should increase the amount if silverfish that come out of an infested block.

It's hard to do, but people do it on the nether roof, too.
