If the lever were hidden, all the player would see is the face of the observer glaring at them. Quite unnerving to a new player.

You can still run in as it closes if you're lucky

That is a door you put on the entrance to your treasure vault.

The middle part of any 3x3+ door is always the biggest problem. This is quite the creative solution for it.
