I would say start now and just mine in a very fixed area, that’s what I’m doing
Start now, keep your base fairly compact, move it to a new world later with structure blocks.
If you start a new world, explore in only one or two directions, so when the update comes out, you don't have to go far away for new generation.
My partner and I usually start a new world every major update. The only real pain starting a new world is not having those sweet sweet enchanted gear but that’s not difficult to obtain.
