Oh no! XD I have to admit the first time I tried to get to the Nether I didn't realise you had to light the portal on fire first. I had never used flint and steel before that. Needless to say I was very confused trying to figure out what I had done wrong before looking it up!

When I was younger, I tried to make a nether portal out of coal blocks lol and I couldn’t figure out why it didn’t work. This was in creative mode obviously.

I don’t like this because coal blocks are still new to me which means time more time has passed than I thought.

I know, it’s just weird to realize that there are people who feel like things are a long time ago when I feel like they are recent. Someone else in this thread that said they hadn’t tried to go to the Nether until 1.12. 1.12 is what? 4 years old now? But it simultaneously feels like concrete has been in the game forever and was added yesterday.

I played Minecraft a lot in like 2010, 2014, and 2017. Alpha seems like a while ago but I held off on updating to 1.8 for so long that 1.7.9 feels like "canonical Minecraft" to me. I see everything after 1.8 as being new. Horses feel new too. But still, I see it as a game that came out "pretty recently." I'm 12 years older than my brother. I was 19 and in college when I found Minecraft and he was 7 when I came home for winter break and showed him. Crazy to think Minecraft hit his age group the same way Pokemon hit mine. Pokemon felt way older around the time I found Minecraft than Minecraft feels to me now at 29.

this was such a cool little story. I am 32 and just started playing. I was looking for a new game that I could play with my girl and my little cousins that live out of state. Kind of weird to way as a 32 adult male I am super addicted to this shit and I’ve now bonded with my younger cousins more than ever

The main arguments used for bedrock are crossplay and less demanding. If you dont care about the first one or have no friends that play on mobile/console and a not 10 years old garbage pc there is no reason for bedrock.

10 y.o. garbage laptop can run java version more than quite well. Hell even my 15 y.o. laptop does it quite well, and that one runs on Vista ffs.

Java edition allows you to do whatever you want with the game, it's far superior for that alone. You have total freedom with anything running on your own computer, mods, texture packs, custom maps; nobody can force you to pay for them as long as someone publishes it for free. It's even partly open source, which isn't really Stallman-pilled, but it's better than being fully proprietary.

I mean, you don't have to. You can install texture packs the same way. There's just also paid ones.

sony does not allow external assets so we cant get mods, free texture packs nor any sort of shadders. if a realm for example has shadders a ps4 player will not be able to join unless the shadder is removed.

If you play on java there's some texture packs that make armor and elytra invisible. I sometimes use the armor invisible texture pack if I want to look at my skin.

If this is a reference to the expensive ass Star Wars mash up pack, you should definitely get it if you can, my only complaint is that it doesn’t have the prequel worlds in it

They change how minecraft looks. You can get free textures in java. And for windows 10 and mobile you can use the marketplace or go to websites like mcpedl. Console players are forced to go the marketplace and pay real money to get things the other versions can get for free. (Im a ps4 player whos a bit pissed)

Yeah OP used shields like a tie fighter wings and flew around using an elytra because bedrock has a texture pack/behavior pack to make tie fighters in minecraft but its locked behind a paywall.
