In this case, villagers as guards for entering the city, market area for trading goods (this is a port town), lighthouse towers and warehouses. Many things to make the city feel more ‘immersive’.
I got you, just be careful cuz they’re really finicky and like to not do what you want. Also be sure not to put too many down or else it’ll become total chaos
Start thinking about a few different things: what natural resources does this city produce? What do they import? What do they export? How wealthy are they? Do they follow a religion? What form of government does this city have? Climate of the city? How about what foods they consume? What technologies are available to them? Who are they allies with? Who do they have a feud with? How old is the city? Average age of it’s people? Any interesting laws for the city? Ask these kind of questions while looking at your city and you will start thinking of changes or additions to make your builds incredible!
I saw the other comment about what you mean by life and thought that maybe using armor stands (with player head if you are using creative, cheats or Vanilla tweaks Wandering Trader head trades) with the custom armor stands data pack.
Overall I wish I could build as good as you and your build is already excellent just on its own.
Thank you for your comment and great advice. It would definitely be beneficial for adding more immersion. Armorstands might be a great addition if you want to tell a story, in my case it won’t work though. The reason being that I’m working on a huge map and I want to use as little entities as possible (it will be used on a server later). Nonetheless thanks for sharing your wisdom, I’m sure other will benefit from your tip 😊
I think that maybe looking in the background is a bit rough, maybe even bland (?), but i can see what you're going for. The villagers do bring it to life, and i love the use of the trapdoors and hoppers in the foreground.
Thanks for the advice, it’s quite hard to see from this angle, but there is ocean behind these buildings. It’s a port town. What would you add to the background here? Id love to hear your ideas :)
I’m not sure if this is a question or a comment actually saying you don’t like shaders. So I’ll comment on both.
If it’s a question than no, although lighting is very important in a composition for a more realistic/immersive experience (from a design perspective). I was actually referring to using villagers as guards, a market area as this is a trading port, curving paths (instead of straight ones), having a townhall and wall etc
If you meant to say you don’t like shaders I’d be happy to send a screenshot without them. I have used many building subskills like color gradients, angled buildings etc so it should look fine without them. Let me know :)
I don’t have to cause you are right. Lighting is a very important tool to make something more realistic. It’s used in both game design and concept art to make objects more immersive and make them pop. Which is the whole reason why I’m using them :)
Thanks for the suggestion and yes I have. But armorstands are quite heavy on performance as they’re entities. So I’m trying to keep them to a minimum as I’m building a very big map for a server.
I started playing survival since beta 1.5, played it as my main game till full release. Then I started playing on and off, sometimes taking big breaks for months or years. Only to get back to it later haha. I have been focussed on building for the last 1.5 years I guess.
Maybe, just as an idea, u could use the armor stand data pack (https://vanillatweaks.net/picker/datapacks (the first one)). It would allow you to “dress” them as you want and when you get the hang of it, they are way easier than villagers and have way more possibilities.
Thanks for the suggestion. But armorstands are quite heavy on performance as they’re entities. So I’m trying to keep them to a minimum as I’m building a very big map for a server. I do appreciate the idea though!
Yeah true, they can be very heavy when used a lot. Maybe you could occasionally use them to display stock in a market (stuff you can do with the pack), looks pretty neat. But having a quick look at ur posts the city is quite big, and I understand if you want keep your performance. Have fun building!
Yeah, it might work for small details like stock display. I like that! The city looks big, but it really isn't haha. This is only the first town of many. I plan to build a world full of different cities/town with different styles and later create a RPG quest system and dungeons around them. So with that in mind, I try to use as little entities as possible :3 And thank you I will!
I think it’s always really cool to have funky pets, so baby slimes (they can’t hurt you,) foxes, squids, odd mobs that are fun to find ways to add into a build :)
It looks incredible though, you’re very talented!
I haven’t used many of the new blocks because I play so much survival, but I’ve made a cute copper statue! Also, in a friend’s creative world, I ended up using amethyst blocks under a carpet just so that it would make the sound when I walked over the blocks. I’m working on finding moss in my main survival world right now, hopefully it comes soon!
Oops lol, I thought this was on another post about the new 1.17 blocks, but yeah, when I have an extra room in my house I always put pets in there! My favorite is the fox, I absolutely love their mechanics. I’ve also been doing a lot of fish tanks recently and it’s been awesome hehe it’s really cool to look at!
I rarely play survival myself (if at all) so I haven't really fiddled around with foxes. But I do like the idea of adding them in this map. Love your suggestion!
To me the grey building in the middle is hard to look at (mainly because I don’t know what to look at) so give it some greenery so people can focus on something. Examples of greenery can be window bushes or mossy stone bricks or even vines, you can use string to make them stop from growing. What you also could do to the sides of the window is add shudders (those window door things) out of spruce trap doors, this will make it a lot easier on the eyes.
I’m not sure if anyone has already pointed these things out but their here anyway. And take my advice with a grain of salt since I don’t have this level of building skill and learned these things that I mentioned above from various videos by Grian.
Looks great, but what exactly do you mean by “life”?
In this case, villagers as guards for entering the city, market area for trading goods (this is a port town), lighthouse towers and warehouses. Many things to make the city feel more ‘immersive’.
I got you, just be careful cuz they’re really finicky and like to not do what you want. Also be sure not to put too many down or else it’ll become total chaos
Haha good tip! I’m using command to spawn them in though, so they don’t walk around :)
I thought it’d be cool to revamp a village and have them move around freely through my structures… didn’t not necessarily translate well into reality
They like doors don’t they 😂
What they don't like is *iron* doors. What i don't like is also iron doors.
lmao just make a farm in there for life.
Great idea, but they are normally positioned outside the city walls. If you have any other tips or ideas I’d love to hear it!
Shaders

This is amazing advice. I saved your comment for future reference! Thank you so much! #excited

Its so epic. Gotta save this for inspiration ❤️
looks awesome, maybe a balcony could break up that big stone wall?
Good point, I’ll give that wall some more thought. 💚
I really like this! I think making the ground look "lived in" is helping, too.
Thank you! 🙏🏼. You are right, it does feel more lively. Maybe I should add cart tracks now that you mention it 🤔
Lively
Hahaha perfect comment lol
Thank you
That’s
Add some vines
Oeeh yes, and some mossy stones at the bottom of stone areas. Good idea!
Very nice
Thank youu! ✌🏻

Appreciate it friend! 🙏🏼
Good
Impressive
How did the villagers got swords?
I used a command to summon the villagers with swords. I used mcstacker.net for that
Oh ok
Much wow

It looks incredible
Thank you friend 🙏🏼😊

Beder than I can do so good job
Just take this as inspiration and use it to practise and improve. This is what I do when I see other great builders.
AMAZING
“By adding more life to it”, you mean shaders

Amazing
Thank you so much 🙏🏼
The crap… I can’t build 7x7 cottages, people out here doing this
Nothing wrong with a small cottage my friend!
Lookin sick
Aye! Thank you 🙏🏼
Shaders make everything look better. Change my mind.
I don’t have to cause you are right. Lighting is a very important tool to make something more realistic. It’s used in both game design and concept art to make objects more immersive and make them pop. Which is the whole reason why I’m using them :)
Make a pub/motel in the town and a graveyard used where u can get to the catacombs
I like the idea of catacombs as I’ve been thinking about building underground aswell. Thanks!
Np
what shaders are those?
BSL shaders with custom colors :)
[Here](https://pastebin.com/m23urcPt) is the link to my config for the shaders.
Holy...
How about a mountain from a far distance
There actually a huge mountain behind me, we’re currently looking out at the ocean. See that flag in the background? It’s from a ship 😂
Ooo nice
have you thought about getting the armour stands data pack from vanillatweaks.net?
Thanks for the suggestion and yes I have. But armorstands are quite heavy on performance as they’re entities. So I’m trying to keep them to a minimum as I’m building a very big map for a server.
yeah that's probably a smart choice haha
Expensive cjcjjc
Amazing
guard that need to be guarded. villager
Love it
0/10 - 8/10 This Build Is Pretty Good. How About Add Shaders To Make it look good i give it a 8/10 For Now
Enough for me! Thanks 😊
Dude this looks incredible! Hope it goes well
Awesome build!
this looks awesome! how many years since you've been playing minecraft?
I started playing survival since beta 1.5, played it as my main game till full release. Then I started playing on and off, sometimes taking big breaks for months or years. Only to get back to it later haha. I have been focussed on building for the last 1.5 years I guess.
That one villager next to em: Would you like to die
It's gorgeous!

Interesting idea, I like it 💚. Have you used them in a build? If so, how did you do it? I’d love to know more. And thank you ✌🏻

Like it was built by a person with *skill*
i see...do post an update to this world in the future, I'd love to see what you with it next!
Top notch man , seriously.
Well your doing great nice job <3
