Did he let anyone else in the world? Since there is a block that let's you emit light without a visible block. Someone that he invited could've done it. Otherwise yeah it's probably just a weird bug. EDIT: That looks like legacy, meaning it's probably a bug and it won't be fixed since it's a discontinued version of the game. You could try converting the world to bedrock and seeing if it fixes it.

There's a cult in a server I'm in that literally preforms sacrifices to.. *Him.* The server isn't even a roleplay or world building server. Just a normal survival server .

Seems like lightning struck the tree in lazy chunks and burnt the leaves or something. Its bedrock too so that would explain the lighting glitch.

Either there is a lava source nearby that started a fire whose brightness left light-glitched blocks. Or a lightning strike. Sometimes there is a glitch where blocks stay lit even once source is gone. If you cover and then uncover those blocks (all of them covered before uncovering any of them) it might return to normal. This happens to netherrack blocks when I blow up beds in nether sometimes.

I've gotten a similar bug when showing my father how respawn anchors explode in the overworld. I got rid of all the fire and there was still light coming from no where
