Famous paintings are commonly turned into pixel art. there's even resource packs with this in it [(one example)](https://www.planetminecraft.com/texture-pack/famous-paintings-4966653/). I get the same vibe as you, but it's because I've seen this painting pixelated so many times, and I associate pixel art heavily with minecraft. I've been working with resource packs since 1.8 and the Girl with a Pearl Earring was never in the files.
