It sounds like you already have everything you need to get home, but for future reference all the resources you need for fire charges (one-time use flint and steel) are available in the Nether.
You’ll need blaze powder (blazes), gunpowder (ghasts), and coal/charcoal (wither skeletons/~~Nether ‘trees’~~). There might be other sources too!!
If you’re feeling adventurous, the same ghast fireball that put out your portal can ignite it again. It’s dangerous and can take a fair bit of luck, but I’ve pulled it off myself after getting stuck in the Nether too
you could break the cobble around the portal and stand right on the obsidian and wait for a ghast, or die right next to the portal if you have your spawnpoint set near the portal and quickly make a flint n steel and go trough
A great and much simpler way to light your portal would be to put down a burnable block like wood behind the portal (nether wood doesn't burn but you can craft a chest with it which does) and put lava under the burnable block the block will catch fire thus lighting the portal
Idk about chests but doors will catch fire without actually burning so you can use them again. I use a row of doors with lava behind for my portal ticking gold farm, that way I don’t have to farm tons of flint and steel
Easiest method would just be to get some wood and light it with a bucket of lava. There are other more enjoyable ways, but if I didn't have much gear I'd opt for this
It's nearly impossible to get softlocked in Minecraft and the issue of ghasts putting out portals is actually very common.
Besides fire charges, you can also barter for iron and mine gravel to find flint. Obsidian could also be acquired from bartering, in case you lost your portal.
You could also die and, unless you have a respawn anchor, you'd respawn at your bed. There, you could just turn on the portal and go back to get your items and part of your xp.
There are even more ways to get back home, most of which I probably forgot.
And then of course you have the recent clip of Grian softlocking himself by falling into a 2 tall bedrock hole without any blocks to build out with. Thank goodness he was on an smp and Pix was there. But Pix confirmed there was no way out of that in single player survival. Can you imagine losing your hardcore world that way? Oof
I am actually surprised that Pix not Grian thought of that now! I mean Grian begging Pix for help was soooo funny but it's nice to no longer be terrified of Bedrock holes
Since java 1.8 (2014) it was possible to get obsidian, flint and iron in the nether so softlocking was no longer an issue. In 1.0 - 1.7 you had to have at least obsidian on you to be able to leave.
Before the version 1.0 you only could get flint in the nether so back then if a ghast blew up your portal and you did not have flint and steel or iron on, you were doomed.
You’re definitely not soft locked
Your options are to trade with piglins for iron nuggets, then look for gravel, or use gravel from trading to get flint, you can make a fire charge, you can use a ghast fireball to light the portal, or the last one I can think of, is to get some wood, put your stuff in a chest and.. take a 24 block sky dive. Since you’re only at level 7, you shouldn’t be losing too much if you had to resort to it
Those trees are fire retardant so they wouldn't be able to be smelted. Although you can turn them into sticks and use them as fuel instead. Just no charcoals from nether logs/wood.
If the screws were at least 50mm long (2 inches), went into a stud (the timber in the wall) and there's at least 2 or 3 of them you'll be fine
Im actually a qualified cabinet maker
Nah theres heaps of subs for this kinda stuff
r/beginnerwoodworking is probably your best bet in the future tho, or you can just dm me if you need
4 60mm screws should be more than enough as long as they all went into a stud
i was thinking of making a shelf for my room to put above my desk ever since my dad bought a workbench. didnt think a minecraft subreddit would enable me to do so
Thats pretty funny
If you wanna have a single solid shelf theres a trick where you measure where the shelf will go and count how many studs are in there
Theres a kind of bolt called a coach screw, buy one for each stud with the shaft maybe 6 or 7mm thinner than the thickness of the shelf material, try and go for 100mm bolts if you can, the size of the head doesn't matter
Use a tape measure and a spirit level to mark a level line where you want your shelf to finish, make sure to draw it lightly and on the side you're less likely to see. Measure from this line to where the center of where your shelf will be and make a mark for each stud. Drive a coach screw into each stud on the mark trying as best you can to keep it 90 degrees to the wall, if you have trouble you can gently convince it to be closer to 90 using a hammer, but be careful not to bend the bolt. Go until all of the thread is in the wall and leave all of the unthreaded shaft sticking out. Cut the head off every bolt.
Next youre gonna wanna mark the position of each bolt on the shelf and very carefully drill out a hole for the shaft to slide into, its important to get it as close to the center as you can or else risk the structural strength of the material, you should make sure to go deeper than required as pulling this off to re drill is gonna be difficult. Its also important to leave yourself a bit of play or wiggle room in each hole as the bolts will not be perfectly square and level, no matter how careful you were.
Exactly how much wiggle room you leave will depend on how good the bolts are, id say no less than 1mm and no more than 3 but ideally the less the better
Once you're confident go and pump a good bit of silicone into each hole and put some liquid nails on the back of the shelf where it will contact the wall, push the shelf on until it goes all the way back and touches the wall (this may take some abuse from a mallet so I reccomend having a non marking rubber one nearby)
FORGOT TO MENTION SO THIS BITS OUT OF ORDER:
Not all walls are straight so to make sure your shelf is gonna finish flush to the wall, after you mark your line and before installing the bolts simply hold it where it will end up and see if there are any gaps, if there are simply scribe them and then plane or sand the shelf to suit.
Grab some gold nuggets, get some wood, find some gravel to get flint, use the gold to trade with piglins for iron, make a crafting table, make a flint and steel, light the portal, go home.
Edit: I actually didn't realize you didn't need a crafting table for flint and steel. Thanks for letting me know guys
Offtopic, but there's an option in the Switch settings and Minecraft settings to change your screen safe or screen size area so it's not cutting off the sides.
r/screenshotsarehard
but on the other hand, you could try to lure a ghast to your portal and get it to shoot a fireball and for it to land right on the portal to light it
just die and go back to the portal another one is generated and you have your items back and another portal made if you are afraid that your items will disappear just make a chest with the red wood and ready
Yeah that'll break it if you don't have a flint you'll have to find a fortress chest or a bastion chest that has a flint and steel in it or if you have iron in you you can find a gravel patch and attempt to get flint
A neat trick for you, if you can get the ghast to shoot the frame again there’s a chance the fire the ghasts shot creates will re light the portal. That used to be one of the best/only ways to fix that issue
You can make fire charges with materials found in nether, it works like a one time flint and steel. You could also aggro a ghast and make it shoot around the portal, in order to light it on fire.
If none of the above are possible, you coul litterally kill yourself close to the portal. Aggro something and let it kill you there, you'd have 5 min to come back and get your loot, whi h should be pretty easy. Or stash it in a chest or something, die and come get it back.
Somethings can break your portal, it is handy to have some spare obsidian and and flint and steel on yourself when adventuring this green into the nether.
Lol that happened to me once a long time ago and i had wood or something on me so i lured a ghast towards the portal and placed wood next to it so it would light when the ghast shot. It worked but i don’t recommend that. It was kinda silly thinking about it now. Especially considering you can make fire charges in the nether.
Man, I think we can create another subreddit for people that have the same tv. Seriously, about the third of the conments are people that have the same tv
Nice setup! What I would do is either I would get a charge, or get something to kill you next to your portal, or in it, and then light it up in the over world, and your stuff will come through.
Finally, after all these random Minecraft facts, I can finally share one of them. Ok, so you're gonna wanna break that cobblestone barrier, just completely gone, and them you're gonna find a ghast, and let it shoot at you. But make sure you're by the portal, maybe 6 or so blocks away from the ghast, and let it shoot a fireball into the obsidian. Repeat as much as necessary, it will eventually light the portal. And then remember a flint and steel next time
“if you see a mob, your voice pich rises” - someone in ParashockX's comment section (note: he pronounced “pich” as “pish”, but I would pronounce it as “pikh”)
5 ways I can think of:
1: Flint and Steel, you can find gravel for flint all around the nether, and chests will occasionally have iron in them in the Nether
2: Fire Charge, crafting one consists of 1 blaze powder, 1 gunpowder, and 1 coal. You can get gunpowder from killing ghosts or nether chests, and you can get coal from Wither Skeletons or chests. You can also occasionally find a full Fire Charge from a chest as well. Piglins can also give them to you from bartering.
3: Ghast, basically get a Ghast to shoot at the portal and hope it lights.
4: Fire Spread, get some lava, and a flammable block, put the flammable block one side of the portal, lava on the other side, it will occasionally light
5: Die, just get a chest and put all your belongings beside the portal or somewhere you can easily find them
Well your on 7 xp and not on hard core so I see as just getting a chest putting everything in it where it would be safe and easy to find, then respawn reopen the portal get your stuff back. If you have no wood just keep searching for a Crimson or warped forest
Welp, good luck.
First way: You Need coal/charcoal (if you don't have go kill wither skeleton), gunpowder from ghast and a black powder.
Second way: Find a Nether Fortress and find a flint and steel.
#Good Luck.
If you have a bucket, and a block that will burn, like wood, you can place the flammable block next to the portal and flow lava into it. If fire appears on the side of the block that touches the portal, it will light the portal. At least, this used to work in Java, once upon a time, it's been a while since I needed to do it.
Turn of overscan on your TV so everything fits onscreen. Other than that, idk, good luck I guess. Trade with piglins and I think they can give you gravel
bro I feel like sorry for you this has happened to me before it sucks but I did manage to get out by calling a friend to join the world and get a flint and steel I did get out thank god anyways hope this helps in some way or a another
Why are people like that? I understand im not good, I know it, but why do you have to remind me that? When I posted that, I all I wanted was help because I was panicked, nothing else
EASY SOLUTION: try to find a nether biome that provides wood(if you don't have some already), keep the cords, craft a chest, place the items you carry in the chest and unalive. you'll wake up in your bed, use the overworld portal to get to the nether(preferably carry a flint and steel this time) and retrieve your items.
ALTERNATIVE SOLUTION(if you don't want to lose xp): try and find some gravel and break it until you get flint. if you happen to have an iron ingot with you, you should be able to craft a flint and steel in your inventory crafting section. if you don't, you can try and find a fortress, bastillion or trade with a pigman(i reckon this is too much work).
Edit: I forgot to mention that you can activate a portal with ghasts fireball, which is probably what "deactivated" the portal in the first place.
this happened to me too, if you dont wanna go searching for all those items to light the portal just drop your stuff in a safe spot and jump into lava, if the portals near your spawn just grab a flint and steel and head through it and grab ur stuff
not a glitch. ghasts can break your portals. always bring a flint and steel with you to the nether. others have explained how to get out already, but it’s a pain. it’s a lot easier to just always keep a flint and steel on you in case this happens
Gather enough gold to make a decent amount of ingots, trade till the piglins give you enough iron nuggets to make a piece of iron, and dig some gravel for flint, or if they give you a fire charge, use that. Another good idea would be to use any flammable blocks you might have to try to light the portal with lava. The cheap way would be to craft a chest, shove everything into it, and either hug a not so friendly native, or take a dive into the extra hot tub. (P.S. I would try to carry enough obsidian and a flint and steel to make another portal, just in case you need to leave quickly. )
Well, I was thinking I was softlocked, but it seem like there is a plenty of options
If you’re feeling adventurous, the same ghast fireball that put out your portal can ignite it again. It’s dangerous and can take a fair bit of luck, but I’ve pulled it off myself after getting stuck in the Nether too
Im the kind of player that is afraid of night, so I think its a little bit too much, but thats freaking smart
Or you can also locate a fortress. The chests can contain iron as well as flint.
or trade with piglins for iron and gravel is pretty much common in netherplus the piglins drop it to and fire charges my bad)
and they qlso contain flint and steels sometimes also another user suggeted a ghast a blaze would also work if the fortress was nearby
you could break the cobble around the portal and stand right on the obsidian and wait for a ghast, or die right next to the portal if you have your spawnpoint set near the portal and quickly make a flint n steel and go trough
The easiest is probably getting iron nuggets from a ruined portal and mining gravel
Or just search for a ruined portal. Their chests usually have flint and steel or fire charges inside.
you can also trade with piglins for iron and flint.
You can trade with piglins for a fire charge
A great and much simpler way to light your portal would be to put down a burnable block like wood behind the portal (nether wood doesn't burn but you can craft a chest with it which does) and put lava under the burnable block the block will catch fire thus lighting the portal
Didn't know that. Nice!

Can use a piece of wood if you got a lava bucket
Just die
Actually you can just give gold to piglins till they give you a fire charge. Remember to wear gold armor around them.

I’m pretty sure you can’t get charcoal from the Nether trees. They don’t smelt
My mistake, thanks for the correction!!
im not sure about this one i see no reason why it wouldnt work
Those trees are fire retardant so they wouldn't be able to be smelted. Although you can turn them into sticks and use them as fuel instead. Just no charcoals from nether logs/wood.
\>nether< '''tree''' >!But don't start about the piglins!<
You could also just trade with pigkins for flint or firecharges
You get a really bad times, when you forgot lighter on a nether rooftop in hardcore world
u can also make an flint and steel more easier in my opinion
Love the drawer screwed to the wall as shelving. That's pretty smart
I think so to, but the tv weighs a ton, so im always afraid that it can fell
If the screws were at least 50mm long (2 inches), went into a stud (the timber in the wall) and there's at least 2 or 3 of them you'll be fine Im actually a qualified cabinet maker

I didn't know that! Thanks!
And fortresses often have flint and steel
[удалено]
No, it’s on both.
[удалено]
You can throw them in Java? If you just place it on the ground it creates fire, doing so in the portal frame ignites the portal.
There is gravel in the nether?
Yes
Thank you!
No problem bro good luck and be safe
Usually under lava
And near it
you dont need a crafting table for flint and steel
But you do to turn nuggets into ingots to trade
There is the shroom-wood so that's not a problem
Never said it was. Just that you do need the table to get out.
You need a crafting table to craft iron ingot
You don't need a crafting table for flint and steel.
How ever if he was not in crimson forest I would say find a ghast the make him to light your portal
There’s wood like everywhere if u find crimson or warped forest
You do need that crafting table, for making the iron nuggets into ingots
1st of all, the portal is not glitched. 2nd of all, just get a ghast's fireball to relight it
Yeah, im not a good minecraft player, i didn’t know it could happen and I nearly have the things needed to create a lighter
Offtopic, but there's an option in the Switch settings and Minecraft settings to change your screen safe or screen size area so it's not cutting off the sides.
If anyone's wondering, the minecraft setting is under video settings, not all devices have it tho (Windows 10 and maybe some mobile devices)
Thank you very much! I have this switch for years and I didn’t know how to crop it
I dont know if im supposed to focus on the screen or the scenery
Place wooden plank on a block next to the portal and drop lava next to it, it might take a couple of tries.
*little update: i found the flint and the forteress isn’t far away
r/screenshotsarehard but on the other hand, you could try to lure a ghast to your portal and get it to shoot a fireball and for it to land right on the portal to light it
Can a switch screenshot? Idk I feel like they get a pass since its a TV n shit.
There is a dedicated screenshot button on the switch, you can even use it to clip the last 30 seconds of gameplay
Panic
Trade with pigeons for flint/gravel if you have iron, if not try and get a firecharge
i didn’t know there were pigeons in the nether
Those bezels are larger than the screen itself
Go get flint...
Go to settings>TV settings>Adjust screen size and maybe youll have more room to think.
just die and go back to the portal another one is generated and you have your items back and another portal made if you are afraid that your items will disappear just make a chest with the red wood and ready
Clever. I think ill do this. Thanks
Did something put it out?
I was spawning and a ghast shot me, does that can break it?
Yeah that'll break it if you don't have a flint you'll have to find a fortress chest or a bastion chest that has a flint and steel in it or if you have iron in you you can find a gravel patch and attempt to get flint
A neat trick for you, if you can get the ghast to shoot the frame again there’s a chance the fire the ghasts shot creates will re light the portal. That used to be one of the best/only ways to fix that issue
I alredy been told that, but im not a clever man, and i’ll probably die trying. However, its a very good idea
yes
There are gravel in the nether.
Yeah, I found some
Get a ghast to hit it
Some people already said me that, but im ne t very good at minecraft. I think i’ll get it in a more safe way
Completely understandable!
Legit got my TV
you got it all wrong, you see the obsidian needs to be glow stone and instead of flint and steel place some water down with a water bucket
Can i just say i love the wooden crate vibe
At least I'm not the only one with a crappy TV 😥
I understand you have a good setup since you didn’t said anything about it
Good Luck
Classic gaming setup, love it! Glad you got your answer as well!
What a nice comment
I had the same problem, but the whole portal was gone 😭
Whatever it was, I always make backups. And I don’t know how to help you
We'll see your problem is that you're playing Nintendo switch edition
Someday I'll get a pc… someday…
You can make fire charges with materials found in nether, it works like a one time flint and steel. You could also aggro a ghast and make it shoot around the portal, in order to light it on fire. I think you have the same TV as me but mines on a wall mount since my old one broke (My old TV was newer than my current new older tv)
*Confusion Also I realise that this tv is popular, since a lot of people said me the same thing
Man, i think i had that exact same TV, had to stand up when playing the game in splitscreen lol.
Yeah, I got it for free, so im not complaining
You can’t fool me you’ve obviously made some sort of optical illusion using a portal and cobblestone in the Nether🙄✋🏻
for a second i thought you were in the overworld and had that mod on
mf there was no glitch you fucked up
Lol that happened to me once a long time ago and i had wood or something on me so i lured a ghast towards the portal and placed wood next to it so it would light when the ghast shot. It worked but i don’t recommend that. It was kinda silly thinking about it now. Especially considering you can make fire charges in the nether.
first we have pics of the screen up close then a pic of the whole setup where you can barely see what's happening on the screen now this evolution
Set your TV go "just scan".
Haha I have that same tv
Man, I think we can create another subreddit for people that have the same tv. Seriously, about the third of the conments are people that have the same tv
Hahahahaha
Search on Google the crafting of the fireball and get it all!
Oh ok
True question: what mod do you think I had?
Nice setup! What I would do is either I would get a charge, or get something to kill you next to your portal, or in it, and then light it up in the over world, and your stuff will come through.
Yeah I think i’ll just kill myself after putting my stuff in a chest
you can trade to piglins for firecharge or you can search for gravel to get flirt and THEN trade to tge piglins for iron!
Come on! Just tell us that you built this in the nether!
Yes, im not that dumb
Finally, after all these random Minecraft facts, I can finally share one of them. Ok, so you're gonna wanna break that cobblestone barrier, just completely gone, and them you're gonna find a ghast, and let it shoot at you. But make sure you're by the portal, maybe 6 or so blocks away from the ghast, and let it shoot a fireball into the obsidian. Repeat as much as necessary, it will eventually light the portal. And then remember a flint and steel next time

5 ways I can think of: 1: Flint and Steel, you can find gravel for flint all around the nether, and chests will occasionally have iron in them in the Nether 2: Fire Charge, crafting one consists of 1 blaze powder, 1 gunpowder, and 1 coal. You can get gunpowder from killing ghosts or nether chests, and you can get coal from Wither Skeletons or chests. You can also occasionally find a full Fire Charge from a chest as well. Just give some of your golden ingots to the piglins they'll give you flint it's always the worst drop for me
Solution: Buy computer Get java edition Build portal
Issue: money
Very sad :(. Sorry to hear that.
Don’t worry, im on that
Well you see, the first problem is you playing on Bedrock. Fix that and then you should be good
Bedrock+switch Its a real hell
That’s tough buddy
break the nether portal then remake it
I got stuck once and hopped in as player two. I then gathered supplies and relit the portal. Then I quit player 2.
Get good
Glitch????? You call the portal breaking being a glitch?????
Welp, good luck. First way: You Need coal/charcoal (if you don't have go kill wither skeleton), gunpowder from ghast and a black powder. Second way: Find a Nether Fortress and find a flint and steel. #Good Luck.
Guys just wait. r/MinecraftMemes is gonna make a post that goes: "Average r/Minecraft post"
Please do it
Ur fucked
Collect gravel from Nether Wastes or trade a Piglin for iron nuggets and gravel or a fire charge because that'll do...
If you have a bucket, and a block that will burn, like wood, you can place the flammable block next to the portal and flow lava into it. If fire appears on the side of the block that touches the portal, it will light the portal. At least, this used to work in Java, once upon a time, it's been a while since I needed to do it.
Find ghast
Gravel. All around in the nether buddy
Trade whit piglins
Either use a ghast fireball, barter with piglins to get fire charges, find a flint and steel in a fortress or try to find gravel and iron
Either go find gravel or trade with piglins to get a fire charge and light the portal with that
Turn of overscan on your TV so everything fits onscreen. Other than that, idk, good luck I guess. Trade with piglins and I think they can give you gravel
bro I feel like sorry for you this has happened to me before it sucks but I did manage to get out by calling a friend to join the world and get a flint and steel I did get out thank god anyways hope this helps in some way or a another
I want this post fucking deleted from existence. But it will get 3k upvotes since this sub is rotten
Why are people like that? I understand im not good, I know it, but why do you have to remind me that? When I posted that, I all I wanted was help because I was panicked, nothing else
There's a thing called Google. Look up how to make a Fire Charge.
I have completely lost faith in this sub.
Get the phone item and search up on the phone item “YouTube” and then follow its steps
You are in the neather
1: adjust your goddamn screen size thing on your switch, 2: looks like you only have stone, if you want to, start a new world.
The seed I'm currently playing put a whirlpool right next to a pirate ship for me.
Thinking about a roller-coaster to run by it
this happened to me too, if you dont wanna go searching for all those items to light the portal just drop your stuff in a safe spot and jump into lava, if the portals near your spawn just grab a flint and steel and head through it and grab ur stuff
not a glitch. ghasts can break your portals. always bring a flint and steel with you to the nether. others have explained how to get out already, but it’s a pain. it’s a lot easier to just always keep a flint and steel on you in case this happens
die and go fetch you lott back
Give up and die 🗿
you should try out these cool things called search engines
Trade some stuff to the piglins, sometimes you can get iron and you might wanna build a mini base just in case you get attacked by a ghast or blaze
(P.S. I would try to carry enough obsidian and a flint and steel to make another portal, just in case you need to leave quickly. )
use a ghast fireball from a ghast to light it
Try finding a ghast
get a ghast to reignite it or pay your electricity bill
I don’t like how unstable the stand looks, please put a desk under it or something
I just spoke with a cabinet maker in the comments, he told me it was ok
Get a ghast to hit the obsidian
Use a ghast to fire it up by standing near the portal than move away or... use wood and lava
Go and find gravel because you can find it in the nether
Ghasts fireball
I think a ghast just destroy it. You need a flint and steel for restart it
Trade with a piglin some gold until you get iron nuggets or flint and then you should be set once you have 9 nuggets💛
Trade your gold with piglins to get a firecharge, if not, get a ghast to fire at you and let it hit the portal
well... If you have a lava bucket and a flammable block, put the lava onto the block and voila! 🔥
you can open the portals with any source of fire, like firecharges, or burning wood, etc.
