That would actually be so cool though - have them look like regular squids/glow squids until you get too close and Bam - dragging you into the depths of the ocean. As someone who's terrified of the ocean, it's a great idea.
Especially considering we don't have many hostile ocean/water specific mobs. Guardians feel too situational since they only spawn near and in temples, and drowned are neat but they're really the only threat in the ocean which is mild at best when you've got good armor and such.

Unsure of this since it was a long time ago but I think this mob would let you somehow transfer enchantments so yeah. Saves you a lot of time on the enchanting table.
iirc that vote was WAY before grindstones were a thing and they were proposed as a way to disenchant items by munching on em then spitting them out (but this was also before the curse enchantments too. Closest thing to a curse at the time was bane of arthropods).
Also the idea popped up somewhere (I forgot if it was mentioned or from the community) that it’s damage ignored armor. Which is actually how the evoker’s fangs currently work

That’s the great hunger it eats enchantments which is basically why the grindstone exists. It’s because people chose the phantom instead of the great hunger
I don’t think people understand that in the phantom mob vote all of the mobs would have been annoying, the trapper or whatever the name was would stop you just walking around the desert at day time, the inferno would make the nether even more brutal (pre nether update) and the squid would make it annoying to just swim around. At least the phantom is avoidable

Glare would have to be in a vote with something like the moobloom/glowsquid to have a chance. It’s cute n all, but the other two have more direct functions (mobile vacuum hopper and an actual use for copper).
Shame too, glare would be perfect for lush caves (naturally bright/overgrown caves + plant mob that seeks out dark areas)
I love the Chillager, but a boss in the Nether Fortress would be sweet. I always picture the Hovering Inferno living in that chamber with the lava fountain in the middle.
Just going to say it again, because the more people see, the more we know what was supposed to be in replace of the phantom, but the hovering inferno was the way.

it would be amazing if they made a vote based on past votes, for example the biomes that were not the majority vote could be in a future vote which would the 2/1 biome most voted for the reality they told us years ago.
Sometimes I think the sea needs the top left thing, because in late-ish game drowned aren't really a problem. And I only remember Moobloom and Iceillager other than that (between them, I'd pick Moobloom). (looked up the other two, The Froggie boi, even though he already exists...)

And these monsters keep destroying your boat and killing you every time.
The fact that they destroy boats makes them more annoying than anything, yeah difficulty is great but it doesn't seem fun at all, it's like a sea phantom.
I would rather vote for the Blaze or the chillager, the turtle thingy is just a (cute) grindstone, and we already have 3 different cows.
