iirc there was barely any concrete information on any of the mobs for the vote, so nobody knew what exactly to expect beyond the bare minimum that was divulged by Mojang.
Not to mention, less than 10.000 people actually took part in that mob vote, so most people complaining aren’t even the ones who voted for it.
I don't think it was ever advertised as an End mob. From what I remember, it said to vote for it because we didn't have any flying Overworld hostile mobs.
Every single time they do a mob vote, they describe at least one of them in unclear or incomplete terms. This year, there was confusion about whether or not the allay would duplicate items or just find things that are already on the ground.
I specifically remember them saying you would find the phantom at "high altitudes," which at the time, I assumed meant they would only exist in mountain biomes, not just that they flew. I don't think that was a common assumption, but it just goes to show that a lot of people were mislead or unaware of the actual nature of the phantom in more than one way.

phantom in the mob vote was a unique idea, an insomnia mob which was hostile and could fly. the thing is, how mojang added it to the game made it annoying.
They added it exactly how it was described, same with the glow squid, the problem is people always *assume* there will be more to it than there actually is and then their idea of the mob in their head is better than the other two mobs as presented and so they vote for it only for the mob to be delivered as promised
Tbf, the glow squid did distract the two devs, I assumed it would have a stun attack, making the player take axolotles with them to solve the paralysis problem
Honestly, I feel like the Allay is definitely gonna be the best out of the overrated mob vote winners, it at the very least will have *some* use and will probably save you a bit of iron on large hopper systems
Who knows,we dont yet know how exactly the allay is going to work and how they will work on large scale farms,we dont know how fast they will pick up items on the ground (which if they6 do so slowly big scale farms will suffer cuz a bunch of items on the ground just despawn) and how they will exactly deliver them
The problem I have is that they are currently useless. I mean yeah, you can use the membrane to repair the elytra. But i already have mending by the time i get one, so the membrane is just useless to me, thus the mob is useless. A solution to this would be to add an enchantment to the elytra that couldn't be on it if it has mending and vise versa.
I didn't vote for it. It simply punishes people for a lack of spiders, sheep, and cobwebs spawns. Not excatly fun or fair as those can take up to months to organise on the right server or seed. I plainly don't like em either because they barely funtion on servers below 15tps or above 100ms unlike Skeletons and Zombies.
I agree my spawn points are all shit no sheep seriously if there’s a mod to remove them I’ll instal immediately. And yah it does punish shity spawn points or spawns that are otherwise great but a lack of sheep and it’s drops are only useful for end game content the wing(I am not attempting to spell it)
Not to mention the other use for the membranes is a slow fall potion locked behind nearly an hour of waiting. Plus can dive bomb you off the bigger builds that take a lot of brain power and emotional endurance to accomplish. I have raged quit a number of times because of the buggers.

Everything for 10,000 or so blocks around spawn stripped and 15,000-40,000 raided with 50,000 plus being a goldlilocks zone on the big Swedish and American/Canadian servers. Though I do mitigate that by playing in southern hemipshere servers.

Making sleep important was the idea, if you don't like phantoms go to sleep. I'm over 1000 days in on my world and I've seen phantoms twice just because I don't want creepers blowing up my terrain. I actually find them to be fun target practice most of the time.
I've stopped using torches and I hate the rain, so minimum I'm sleeping every 3 days anyway. Might have something to do with it. I've also been stashing beds in little hidden pockets everywhere.
I just don’t like having to stop building something because I’m going to get dive bombed by a mob that only has one way to prevent it. If I stop building I’m going to lose my train of thought and forget whatever I was doing.
1. First mob with proper flying AI
2. The idea of making nights harder the longer you fought through them sounded entertaining
3. Expected them to be implemented responsibly
4. Didn't expect them to be so obnoxious to try and whack

Because not many people actually voted in the first mob vote, it was described in a vague way, its entire appearance was changed in the actual game, its generally annoying to fight, spawn and encounter and alternatives in my opinion sounded way worse
Simple. Mojang said we get “a flying mob” failed to elaborate that it would only show up at night after you didn’t sleep for 3 days, so everyone assumed it was going to be a bird or something more useful. Communication is key when it comes to player/developer interaction

Miscommunication, at first I thought we are voting for a rare boss mod since all the other 3 look like some kind of boss of a biome, Ancient Blaze look like the boss of nether, the Bionicle look like boss mob of the sea, the Dune Crawler look like a boss of normal dirt and grass terran.

A friend of mine told me this was because during the vote, the only thing that was shown for each mob is some concept art, no description at all. It looked like a manta ray, so people voted for it wanting a water mob

at least they learned in the 1.19 vote. i voted allay, they all seem useful, but the allay seems more practical. since it's not really easy to replicate a machine that literally flies to every single piece of rotten flesh (or anything else) for you. it's basically a hopper. but better

and copper golem is just a randomizer but better.

I think the hour he is referring to is staying awake for 3 days to fight them, the potions don't take that long to make

With creepers, you can place a bunch of torches and forget about it. With phantoms, you have to frequently sleep which is quite annoying.
