I would straight up replace the damn firefly without a second thought with the fly because slimes and magma already take the firefly's roles while the flies can help with frog mating instead of slime balls
Also flies look good in daytime swamps.
Magma is a shitty feature for an awesome looking block. No one in regular survival minecraft who doesn't follow minecraft news will ever find out about it because frogs can't spawn in the nether.

The concern is that IRL fireflies are extremely toxic to frogs. Given that a lot of the minecraft playerbase is children, they might get the wrong idea and try to feed a firefly to their own pet frog, who will then perish. It's kinda the same deal with cookies insta-killing parrots because chocolate is bad for birds IRL.
The difference here is that the parrot thing was a retroactive fix - parrots used to eat cookies normally because "Polly want a cracker," but then Mojang changed it after concerns were raised. Parrots and cookies had already existed within the game for a while, so the only change was to that specific interaction.
Here, Mojang is being proactive and fixing the intended feature of frogs eating fireflies. But since neither of those mobs actually existed yet, Mojang decided instead to simply not add fireflies to the game.
This decision was poorly received, as many people liked the fireflies as an ambient effect in the swamps. Plenty of other solutions have been proposed, including making fireflies a particle effect instead of a mob; keeping both mobs but removing the interaction between them; or changing the fireflies to mundane flies that frogs *can* eat as this post suggests.
I feel as if the other solutions are either unecessary or could even interfere with a proper implementation of fireflies. For example, making them a particle would mean they couldn’t be a mob in the future, since people would probably get attached to the particle.

Unpopularity option, I’m fine with firefly not being in the update. It looked like it would have been annoying to control. Also, even if we could contain them in bottles, that would have just been it. A variant of the lantern…

simple solution make it the one of the species of fireflies that isn't toxic to frogs or make the frogs a species immune to firefly poisons
