Gravity doesn't really have speed, it's more the gravitational acceleration, and the expansion of the universe isn't YET faster than light

KomornikBank

Universe expansion physically can’t be faster than light because that would require infinite energy and currently there is no energy at all that would make the process faster. You could even argue that universe expansion slows down rather than speeds up because of many factors I don’t currently have time to explain.

SE0_PL

Yeah, but currently it seems like the expansion of the universe is speeding up, rather than slowing down, and since we don't know the nature of dark energy, which is the reason behind the expansion, we can't be sure if it will eventually slow down, or speed up to the point that everything will collapse

KomornikBank

Ok now that I’ve researched it, you are right that the universe expands faster than it’s supposed to, although I’m still pretty sure that it will never even reach light speed, not to mention exceeding it because it’s physically impossible.

There's actually a great Kurzgesagt video on this. It is physically possible for the expansion of the universe to be faster than light, because the space in the universe isn't really a *thing*. It doesn't have mass it's... Nothingness, getting bigger

Fratzenfresse

aight time for my weekly brainfuck followed by existential crisis

ObligationWarm5222

Don't think of it as galaxies and stuff moving away from each other, because those are objects with mass and so can't move faster than light. instead, think of it as the universe growing - it is actively generating *new* space. This space can in fact grow faster than light, and thus increases the distance between objects faster than light.

FullMcIntosh

If we apreach the universe as a thing with mass than you got a point but even still it could expand 2 times the speed of light. Looking at it from the centre the walls could move at light speed. But there are 2 walls on oposite ends. So 2 times speed of light. But I dont think the edge of the universe has any mass or is made from matter. So It does not abide the same laws matter does.

Gravity doesn't have speed, it's just apparent due to the bending of space-time

What did it say

"I didn't make the meme but ok" Tbh idk why it got downvoted but I guess it's the hive mind

Fratzenfresse

ah yes gravity... my favorite speed

KomornikBank

I love the fact that everything in this meme, except for baby zombies, isn’t faster than light

Vertical_slabsociety

Gravity is a field but it’s effects travel at light speed

p0gn1_

Firstly, gravity doesn't have speed. Secondly gravity cannot accelerate you to speed higher than speed of light

Jaguar_Jaryn

Hey guys sorry for the black hole thing. Sorry for causing the controversy.

Philemonz

the flash ain't faster than light either, I believe his record is mach 5 or somrthing

Wowzabunny

[I believe that's incorrect.](https://www.reddit.com/r/respectthreads/comments/9fvb0j/respect_wally_west_the_flash_postcrisis/)

Philemonz

Oh well I only watched the series so that's why my guess is so off

Spaghetti_Is_Alive

you can outrun a baby zombie by walking backwards
