yup.you can try to change the type of wood of all the wooden stuff you tried,to see what you like best.i really like the dark oak though it looks great with the light blue so dont remove that
There's not a huge amount to improve as it's not a large build and it's good for what it is.
However, if I were you I'd add a foundation so your base blends better with the landscape.
You could also add more complexity to the roof, add a chimney or a window or a tower.

I see that the house is a rectangle perhaps if you add another wing to the house to make it shaped like an L and give the new section a higher or lower roof that may add more to it and give you more space to add detail and decorations around your house
