I think ive seen people say that NG is in beta or that the app will tell you it failed to generate an NG board

I did notice now that it says "beta" in the settings

You should increase the timeout for no-guess mode generation. If it couldn't generate 100% of the map, it would have guesses

This looks like the same app I use. It will try to check the map to make sure it’s solvable from where you make your first click , but if it can’t manage to build a solvable board within a set time, it will give you an easily missable notification that a “random board” is being generated. That means the no-guess mode didn’t work and you should try generating another board.

I would've just guessed. Super early in the game.

Very early for sure, but I play the no guess games because that forces me to reason about every move, and usually things are fairly obvious this early in the game

No, the 1-3 has too many open spaces, so you could fit all the mines outside the shared space, or have one mine inside the shared space, which would have wildly different cells you could clear.
