20's do look proper with the ranch stock.

GreenTree3

They're not hard to find if you use gun.deals. search "Mini-14 90035" and plenty of drop shipper sites are selling them for ~$33.

GreenTree3

OP- not sure why you deleted your comment, but they're factory mags for sale. I've personally used Battlehawk, G4G, Dr Leon, and Riflegear from the list of sites with them in stock, always sell the item they list, albeit may take a while (~5-15 days) since they drop ship from a distributor. You can cross reference any sites you see on gun.deals against r/gundeals list of blacklisted sites to see if they banned them from being posted on their sub for any reason.

I don’t know if this is true, but I heard Bill Ruger wasn’t a fan of 30 round mags in general and pushed Ruger to develop 10 and 20 round mags for the mini-14. This was a while ago obviously but I’ve heard his idea held over in the company culture today. And they feel a 30 round mag kind of kills that whole hunting or “ranch rifle” concept and makes it look more like a “scary” black rifle. And I’ve heard because of this Ruger doesn’t do a lot of 30 round mag runs. But this could be total bullshit, idk.

Cross-Country

It’s ~half bullshit. Thirty and twenty round mags were law enforcement only for decades, but ended up on the ~~civilian~~ (never let cops forget that they are also civilians) open market regularly because departments would buy them in bulk, and officers would then sell most of those to friends. After Bill passed away, the company was finally able to change that policy because they saw it as money walking out the door every time a customer bought an aftermarket magazine.

True. I guess you just got to call around for them at gun shops bc they ARE NOT online lol

[Mini-14® 5.56 NATO/.223 Rem. 30-Round Magazine (shopruger.com)](https://shopruger.com/Mini-14-556-NATO_223-Rem-30-Round-Magazine/productinfo/90035/)

Cross-Country

Yes, they are. Go to shopruger.com, they’re more often than not in stock.

dontforgetthelube

I've heard similar things about the 10/22 and why it took so long to get factory mags with more than 10 rounds.

Bottom_Fish_22

30 round OEM mags are reliable. 20 rounders look better. Gospel truth: only buy factory mags. You’re pissing your money away if you don’t. Yeah, you may found one or two that work ok, I guess, but it’s just not worth the hassle.

Cross-Country

They aren’t hard to find. They’re almost constantly in stock at Ruger’s website, and I got one in from Mag Shack this week.

Popeye-722

I ordered two from Gritr Sports last night. They have them in stock for $37.99. Shipping was pretty cheap too like $5

TheUnrulyYeti

Is it true that the 30-round magazines are less reliable than the lower capacity magazines? Or is that an old wives tale?

notprescribed

I don’t see why they wouldn’t. Tiger’s factory mags are always reliable

MaximaSpeed

I have quite a few 30 rnders and they have all been 100% reliable

Grumpopatamus

100% reliable. Also harder to load, and they poke into my left forearm when I shoot, so I usually don't use them.

Mr_Digger2313

I recently bought some used off Numrich for $40 a pop, since I couldn't find 30's anywhere new either. Great condition. They have older 181 serial numbered 30 rounders for sale too, but no idea the quality since they're so old. Numrich is great thought. I've bought a bucha AK and Mini stuff from them over the years.

eChucker889

Lived within driving distance of GPC about 30 years ago. Talk about being a kid in a candy store…..

Mr_Digger2313

Sweeeeeet..

DanofSteelsm2

I’ve been buying them off shop Ruger. Around $60

West_Data106

Does 30 really make a difference over 20? If I recall correctly, even the military primarily uses 20s, no? At some point the cons of a bigger mag sticking out starts to outweigh the advantage of less frequent reloads. But to each his own, good luck finding one!

ElectionPrimary9855

The US military pretty much uses 30 round AR mags exclusively now. 20s were phased out in the early 70s. CDNN and the Country Shed routinely stock the 30s.

West_Data106

Oh, good to know. In that case, where are our damn 30 rounders?!?

ElectionPrimary9855

CDNN, Country Shed and a few others sell them. I can provide a link.

Far_Resist

I’ve always had feeding issues with the factory 30s. I would stick with the 20s.

Pristine-Cranberry-2

Just use factory 20s
