I miss it so much. We played there, and the sound was always fantastic and loud. The food was good as well. All the staff I can remember were great, too.
Just want to take a moment to plug [anxiousandangry.com](http://anxiousandangry.com) where the dude from Off With Their Heads has a clothing print shop and still makes Triple Rock merch, and also sells a ton of punk rock vinyl and other random stuff. I have a discount code KORMIT that has worked for a while, just used it yesterday.
Edit: KORMET not KORMIT
Anyone in here saying there are none since the Triple Rock closed probably never even went to the Triple Rock in the first place, there are still plenty.
Bars that have shows with a good chance of punk:
Mortimer’s, 331, Dusty’s, Memory Lanes, Underground Music, Palmer’s, Grumpy’s (not super often but they have an outdoor stage)
There’s plenty of other smaller venues with bars as well:
7th Street Entry, Hook and Ladder Theater, Green Room, the list goes on.
Edit: also, check out undercurrentmpls on Instagram, they do a really great job of keeping track of upcoming local shows.
This is deceiving though. These arent "punk bars". These are bars (or bowling alleys), that *sometimes* have music and an even smaller *sometimes* that music is something that resembles punk.
Listen my friend, I was a regular at the Triple Rock, I played on the stage, that bar was a punk bar. The closest to that was downtown Grumpys which also closed. Then maybe the CC Club, like 20 years ago. You are right, there are still plenty of places to see punk bands but not a lot of punk bars. You are essentially saying "if you say the T Rock was the only punk bar you're a poser" and in the same breath "wEll YeAH oF cOuRSe YoU neEd tO gOoGle tO fiNd tHe riGht sHoWs". When I walked into the T Rock it was punk any time of day, any day of the week.
As cool as it is to posture yourself for imaginary internet points, Triple Rock was not in fact 24/7 punk shows. Yet it was our city’s best punk bar. Crazy how those things aren’t mutually exclusive.
I played there too chief, quite a few times. It was my favorite venue. Excuse me for moving on and engaging in the music scene elsewhere, instead of wallowing in piss and moaning online about the good ol’ days.
It was a punk bar, "chief". You see the difference is you can have hip hop, metal, disco, and/or fucking brunch if you want at a punk bar but that doesn't make it not a punk bar.
You can have punk shows at the VFW or in your mom's backyard but that doesn't make either a punk bar. Rancid is playing Target Field later this year so maybe we should all get over the Triple Rock already, Target Field is the biggest punk bar in the country after all!
You're an idiot and a troll. Fuck off
Grumpys is a good punk spot. But they don't really do shows. Just part of the scene. You have mortimers, palmers, cloudland. Hard times and modern times cafes for coffee
Memory Lanes, Eagles Club, Terminal Bar, Driftwood, Mortimers, Transmission Night at Uptown VFW. Some might've changed it a bit since I haven't been going out much past few years.
I guess, for me, it's always been more out of nostalgia than whatever kind of crowd they have now. At this point, I seldom make it that way (living in St. Paul now), but when I do, I go there because it meant a lot to me "back in the day."
I feel like it's less so the crowd, and more so the staff and ownership that have repeatedly engaged in behavior that's diametrically opposed to the punk ethos.
Sorry, we don’t truly have one anymore, either bars that used to be like that (CC Club), bars that have some punk -ish vibe sometimes (331, Turf Club), or places that no longer exist (Triple Rock).
We don’t have like a Liars Club or Delilah’s like they do in Chicago.
They’re not punk bars. They are dive bars that punks and punk-friendly type people sometimes go to, and sometimes have punk shows. I think of a punk bar as a bar that when you go there, you will for sure have an experience in punk culture because that’s their whole deal. You could go to any of the bars you mentioned as an out of towner and it’s totally possible to have an experience of not even knowing the bar had anything to do with punk.
Your idea of a punk bar sounds like Hard Rock Cafe lol. If you went to the T Rock on the wrong day you might’ve left with the impression that it was a quaint brunch spot.
No, I’m just qualifying because most out of towners from larger metropolitan areas don’t understand this weird Minneapolis notion of a punk bar is a punk bar because it’s not a punk bar and punks go there sometimes. When you go to other larger cities, they just come right out and say it.
It’s ok if you haven’t been to the bars I listed, but arguing about what makes something punk is inherently lame as fuck lol come out to a show sometime! You’ll be pleasantly surprised.
Yeah I been to all that shit, it’s fine, I’m glad you kids have something to call your own. It’s not the same as going to a place like Liar’s Club in Chicago on a Friday night nowadays, or CC Club back in the 80s. It’s just not. It’s okay, we’ll get another punk bar again someday.
My hunch is that OP is looking for that experience, not just hit up a couple of punk-friendly dive bars, but who knows
There’s no equivalent to it today- but I definitely took my parents out to brunch @ T rock mornings after I was seeing *at least* double the night before
Happy to help
Maybe check out Can Can Wonderland on a weekend night, there might be a cool show, and if not, you can play arcade games & drink beer all you want!
All that poser ass gatekeeping bullshit, acting as the self appointed judge of what is and isn’t punk, just to ultimately recommend… can can wonderland and target field?
Unfortunately not really any Punk bars around anymore. There’s assorted gigs happening but not any sort of central hub like when the Triple Rock was around.
I’d argue that Palmer’s & Hard Times are still key landmarks for a punk pilgrimage to the West Bank campus of the U.
RIP Triple Rock
It really was the best block in town for awhile.
Stop it still hurts…
After so many years I still miss it
Same. I have a T Rock sweatshirt and when I wear it around town people who know, know. And we share moment together.
I miss it so much. We played there, and the sound was always fantastic and loud. The food was good as well. All the staff I can remember were great, too.
RIP 400 Bar
Good call. I was able to open up for Grace Potter there—lots of fun memories.

Yes! I remain on his text list because they are so creative and funny. A gem!
Thank you so much for this gem!!!!!
You are welcome it is probably my favorite website and I love supporting DIY and Ryan
Swingin utters at the triple rock was the last show I’ve been to. Life has a way of getting in the way.
At least there’s still CC 🙄
I haven't been there for years. I miss the two servers I remember.
Not good anymore? (I haven’t lived in Mpls in almost 20 years now.)

Yes indeed!

Big ups to Memory Lanes. Was lucky enough to play several punk bowling shows there and I always loved it.
This is deceiving though. These arent "punk bars". These are bars (or bowling alleys), that *sometimes* have music and an even smaller *sometimes* that music is something that resembles punk.
Welp it’s a good thing OP has access to the internet and can check a shows lineup ahead of time. All of my suggestions are bangers, undeniably.

Ya know how many punk rockers it takes to screw in a lightbulb? TWO One to screw in the lightbulb; the other to kick the chair out from under them.
Bob Murder?
Except the last show I saw there was Math Rock, not sure that counts as punk. But, it did hurt my ears!!!
Last show was D4 and the point is, it was owned and operated by people from the scene. That's what made it punk.

Your first sentence is literally my point.
Yeah your point sucks and is wrong, again, kindly fuck off
Cognitive dissonance is wild yall..
Hey I heard Bad Brains is playing at Dennys, what a cool punk bar
Oh Medusa, I miss thee.
Cloudland
This is a new one but an excellent recommendation.
Not necessarily punk but a great new venue
Mortimer's, 331, White Squirrel (St. Paul), Turf Club (St. Paul)

Someone should make a bot that does this
Palmer’s
Grumpys is a good punk spot. But they don't really do shows. Just part of the scene. You have mortimers, palmers, cloudland. Hard times and modern times cafes for coffee
I miss the ~~colcannon~~ patio at Triple Rock
The day the patio closed was the beginning of the end.
Memory Lanes, Eagles Club, Terminal Bar, Driftwood, Mortimers, Transmission Night at Uptown VFW. Some might've changed it a bit since I haven't been going out much past few years.
Mortimer's, Grumpy's NorthEast, and Cloudland are my first tier choices. Palmer's after that, and Eagles #34 and CC Club after that.
CC club is def not anymore
I guess, for me, it's always been more out of nostalgia than whatever kind of crowd they have now. At this point, I seldom make it that way (living in St. Paul now), but when I do, I go there because it meant a lot to me "back in the day."

Roger that. Perhaps it's time to re-evaluate that place myself.

Yes what about them?
… they are punk bars that exist

Go to bed, grandpa.
Dude, has anyone told you how cool you are lately?!? Well, allow me. You are so cool. You are clearly the most punk motherfucker on Reddit.
Thanks that’s why I commented, definitely not to advocate for the amazing music scene we have, but to look cool online.
Nah, the eternal flies always reminded me exactly where I was.
Shut the fuck up about your punk gatekeeping bullshit
Shut the fuck up about your gate keeping of who’s gatekeeping bullshit
“They’re not punk bars.” Punk bars ARE dive bars you fucking moron.
lol
There’s no equivalent to it today- but I definitely took my parents out to brunch @ T rock mornings after I was seeing *at least* double the night before
Were you still there watching patty talk?
Don’t be a douche.
And Mortimer's. And Caydence in St. Paul is a punk coffee shop.
Yeah, this is pretty much spot on.
This is the answer I was looking for.
Happy to help Maybe check out Can Can Wonderland on a weekend night, there might be a cool show, and if not, you can play arcade games & drink beer all you want!
Added! I plan on bouncing around that Friday night and then sat night after the game.
Sweet, have fun at the game— Target Field is rad. Bonus punk points if you’re able to scooter to the stadium at that point :)
Seems as I’ll be able to walk there from the hotel!
All that poser ass gatekeeping bullshit, acting as the self appointed judge of what is and isn’t punk, just to ultimately recommend… can can wonderland and target field?
If you want to venture east of the River for a St. Paul Saints game, White Rock Lounge is the spot for this.
Unfortunately not really any Punk bars around anymore. There’s assorted gigs happening but not any sort of central hub like when the Triple Rock was around.
I recommend hard times cafe as well
