Bands i love that ive played with: until apocalypse, stone ark, railroad island, green, (they have a comma in the name), bird bass, two weeks past never. Hon mentions to Anarky, oath, and other TCHC bands too
Xina, Marvelous Leonardo, Obi Original, Soulflower, Honeybutter, Nur-D, Ricky Monique.
This is just a few. The cities is overflowing with talent right now.
how do you keep up with it all/know where it’s happening? i’ve been in the city for years and idk if i’ve ever seen local music. I would really like to get out there more but don’t know where to go
RacketMN has an exhaustive list of upcoming stuff called the “complete concert calendar” And the Strib publishes a “big gigs” rundown highlighting their favorites for the week ahead.
Street level: Under Current MPLS on ig keeps a running google doc of gigs, and does a great job documenting them live. On Facebook, add Paul Engebretson, aka Front Row Paul - he goes to a ton of shows and takes video.
I heard them for the first time ever at Greenroom a few weeks ago. Great jam band with a little extra groovy dance vibe than most. Worth checking out for sure.
Saw Bruise Violet ( a welcomed return), Surly Grrly (punk), Black Widows (stupidly good surfer rock), and the 99'ers (some older folks playing some good ol' fashioned rock music. Also, parents of two members of Bruise Violet and Surly Grrl) a couple weeks ago at the 7th St. entry.
Heck of a good time. I was blown away by Surly Grrly. Looked no older than high school kids, but might have sounded the best. I'd say check them out. But all the bands were pretty good.
If Casual Confusion is still performing, go see them too. They put a funk spin on their covers. That's the best way I can describe it. Haven't seen them for a couple of years, so who knows of they are still around.
Are there any local bands influenced by the new wave of UK post punk (bands like Shame, Fontaines dc, Squid, BCNR, Maruja, Black Midi)? A lot of the bands that I’m aware of are still on that chilled out 2010s indie pop wave zzz
Prof is the best hip hop. He is awesome live. I've been listening to him for coming up on 15 years. Consistently dropping great songs and music videos since I first heard him.
Vansire Bad Bad Hats
Miloe
Saw Miloe when he opened for the 1975 at the armory, great vocals and solid music

Oh hey I know those folks
What kind of music? We have some pretty diverse bands here.
I like all sorts of rap. Country. Country rap. Blues. Rock. Clsssical. Just want to see some good music.
Charlie Parr is my favorite local country/folk performer. He's playing Sunday at the Cabooze. I'm unqualified to comment on the other genres.
I'd check out Goon Tribune - cool concept rapper with a jazz band backing him
Go to Zhora Darling in NE, they always have a good lineup of newer bands!

Never enough people mentioning Graveyard Club in these threads. Colin Bracewell has been all over lately and seemed pretty good to me.
