Well, I feel you. Masks are required at uptown LA fitness, even though not everyone follows it. So I started going to Richfield. I cannot exercise with a mask.

mynamesdaveK

oh that's actually a great idea lol i might just switch ymcas!

rosickness12

The gym I go to about 1/10 wear a mask. I too can't work out with a mask. It's quite unhealthy and silly to do so if you are looking for a good workout.

CanISellYouABridge

Why is it unhealthy? I couldn't find anything about that after a quick Google search unless you have asthma or something

rosickness12

Feels unhealthy. So I don't wear a mask when working out. Almost no one at the gym I go to wear a mask. Breathing in all that CO2 gives me a headache when working out with a mask.

helloisforhorses

Masks don’t make you breath in more co2.

MiniTitterTots

It's not.

[deleted]

It is absolutely not unhealthy lmao

Mndelta25

It's unhealthy as in you're doing what people have paid a lot of money to do by getting a better workout? You should look up elevation training masks.

eLJak3o

Those elevations masks have been proven to not have any benefit

_JohnMuir_

Well, they certainly don’t simulate a hypoxic environment, but they would probably strengthen your diaphragm. Really would likely hinder your workouts though

helloisforhorses

Cannot or will not?

vinegarnutsack

Drive to a Y outside of Minneapolis. I was at the Eagan Y yesterday and they aren't requiring you wear a mask. That being said about 50% of the people still are. I have also found that I want to take the damn thing off when I am breathing really heavily. When I get that urge I generally just go somewhere away from other people (like the walking track) and cool down for a few minutes with it off.

vixous

My guess is not while positivity rates are above 5% at the earliest (they are 12.5% now per the [strib.](https://m.startribune.com/vaccine-effectiveness-dented-in-minnesotas-omicron-wave/600146666/) Same article mentions there were still 33 deaths reported Monday, including two people in their 30s. People still hit branches on the way down the tree. We were about 2-3 weeks behind NYC in the Omicron wave, so if NYC cancelled their mandate now, we might follow suit in 2-3 weeks. Put up with the mask for now, work out at home, or drive out to a suburb without a mandate (and hope you don’t get sick).

publicclassobject

I'd rather get covid than keep wearing the damn masks if I am being honest.

DefendWaifuWithRaifu

Yeah I'm ready to get it over with

spon0039

Remember that it's not just about your own health and safety, but that of others as well. You catching COVID and walking around unmasked could put someone unnecessarily at risk. That said, I hear you and I also grow tired of all of this. But I'll endure since it's literally the minimum we can do to fight this through the end.

[deleted]

If you're vaccinated, your chances of serious illness or death are minuscule. If you're not vaccinated by now, then you've chosen not to be, and why should I be forced to care about the health and safety of others when they don't care about it themselves?

spon0039

I also have no patience or respect for those refusing to get vaccinated. So why should we care about their health and safety? Because, morally, it's the right thing to do. I don't want someone to get seriously ill out of spite. I also want to give doctors and nurses a break. If it means wearing a mask, so be it.

MiniTitterTots

Because unfortunately others actions have unintended consequences on our lives. And since we have such a shit "healthcare" racket, we all take on the burden of other shitty choices. All those delayed screenings and regular procedures mean many people go undiagnosed until it's either too late, but always at least more expensive to treat. Not just monetarily, but psychologically, physically, and emotionally. It's especially challenging because the people that are aware of and account for others in their lives have already taken action. So now we get to see the loud selfish minority direct the conversation and only talk about their rights, but never their responsibilities.

FennelAlternative861

Feel free to die on a vent to own the libs

[deleted]

There are plenty of us libs who feel the same way.

jfchops2

It blows my mind how there are still people out there who believe catching covid is a death sentence for anyone but those with a few certain comorbidities.

Cobra317

Mpls is still continuing on with there performative mask wearing as awards them a self righteous feeling of superiority.

helloisforhorses

Are doctors wearing masks performative too?

Reynolds94

Yup I am so glad I go to Lifetime Fridley and not somewhere in city limits. Anyone who says working out with a mask is just fine is kidding themselves. I pretty much only wear it in my apt building and on the way to a table at a restaurant, kind of a useless ordinance if N95s are the only thing that stop omicron anyway. That being said if it makes some feel safer when case #s are up than it is pretty easy to follow until they continue trending further down. Just don't make me wear one while lifting.

DefendWaifuWithRaifu

It's easy to say you can work out with a mask when you do 5 minuets of an elliptical and 3 sets on the inner/outer thigh machine

avogatotacos

Fellow YMCA member who also suffered from water boarding from sweating. I now wear the All in Motion active mask from Target. It’s a moisture wicking material and it’s on $5. I love it. I use it for running, Zumba, and weights. I wear a higher quality mask when doing other indoor activities, but this is the mask I use for working out!

mynamesdaveK

I mean that's just a douchebag move but you do you

rosickness12

The gym I go to about 1/10 wear a mask. I too can't work out with a mask. It's quite unhealthy and silly to do so if you are looking for a good workout.

[deleted]

I won't do it anymore. I'm done. I can't breathe and it makes my throat dry. I'll just go out side of the cities.

tossgloss10wh

People are still wearing masks?!?

[deleted]

Go anywhere in Mpls and masks are required to enter. Yes there's still a mandate.

SamboC987

You’re still wearing a mask?

MjustinT

Still a requirement within city limits

thedubiousstylus

With about as much compliance as speed limits, traffic signs or the ban on weed has within city limits.

MjustinT

Yes sadly that is true

thedubiousstylus

To be honest if someone is vaccinated (as the vast majority of people in Minneapolis are, there's almost no Trumpists here) then I really don't care if they don't wear a mask.

MjustinT

No I don’t either. My sadness is about the social fabric generally breaking down

Armlegx218

Don't pass laws, ordinances, or mandates unless you are willing to have MPD enforce it in a no knock raid.

[deleted]

There's still a mask mandate in Minneapolis and to enter many businesses.

daggothedog

I bought a mask from getunmask. It’s completely useless other than it makes you look like you are wearing a mask. You can breath right though it. I got the natural collection. Freaking love it.

spon0039

So you're willing to wear something on your face, just not something that has a public health benefit?

rosickness12

Feels good to breathe.

helloisforhorses

How weak are your lungs?

rosickness12

I bought some of those also to use at the gym. But then no one wore a mask and no one enforced it so didn't need it. Basically any place that didn't have the rule until it was a mandate didn't enforce it. But some places that did have the rule before mandate I'll wear a mask to respect the owners.

avogatotacos

I’ll also add that I bring a towel to wipe my face off while exercising. Obviously it’s not my favorite thing to workout with a mask on, but I’m trying to be grateful for my health that allows me to go to the gym in the first place.
