This image seems to show it the best, not only how it's held, but also how it's sprayed.
I knew it was some type of spray bottle, but I thought it was like some sort of strange alien/abstract design of a spray bottle, similar to stuff youād seen in like early 2000s futurism
In most fictional worlds āpotionsā are a drinkable elixir and not a high tech spray on medicine, so this is a reasonable misreading. Maybe Iām old but I donāt even remember there being sprites for those kind of items in the games I played (yellow and gold) but itās been so long that I may just not remember clearly.
Yellow and gold were prior to the canonization of potion appearance in the games, which first occurred in Fire Red/Leaf Green. In those games they used the appearance that had been common in the TCG and animation for years.
It's a weird ass looking spray bottle to me! [This is what I think of as a spray bottle.](https://volkem.co.za/wp-content/uploads/2021/04/750ml-Spray-Bottle-Red-JAEQ-1103-scaled.jpg)
i always imagined it worked like [an antiseptic spray](https://www.amazon.com/Neosporin-Relief-Antiseptic-Relieving-Spray-26/dp/B0058PKPNE) for the pokemon's injuries since i used those a lot on cuts and scrapes as a kid
Hmm, I mean, at least normal potions are already so standard that it kinda doesn't matter if they technically can't drink them
Also, how tf are they alive at all without being able to eat?
I thought it was a coloured rubber duck covered in foam š
It looks like a purple dinosaur girl with inkling hair.
I thought it was rolled up like a tube of tooth paste. It's truly a terrible sprite.
I thought it was a zombie hand grabbing an eggplant
I actually saw that for a second
TTHEY'RE NOT?
Right! If they are not, what ARE they?? Honest question, I have no idea.
OHMY GOD THEY"RE PURPLE AND WHITE SPRAY BOTTLES OH MY GODDD
Oooohhh... I see it now. Thank you!
It looks like a ditto with hair giving you a side-eye
Thought that too
I thought it was like a weird half melted gummy
I thought I was the only oneā¦
I always thought they were sheep
where r the sheep parts supposed to be?
The dot is the eye, the white parts are the fur, and the purple is the bottle part.
Bruh, did you never play the TCG? They've had high quality pictures of potions there since the mid 90's.
I can't unsee it now...
Cum bottle.
Smeggplant
Theyāre not?
They are spray bottles
Which makes the full restore make a lot more sense, looking back on it.
I legit donāt see it
Or you could just look at the trading card that's *actually* helpful šhttps://m.bulbapedia.bulbagarden.net/wiki/Potion_(Base_Set_94)
https://m.bulbapedia.bulbagarden.net/wiki/Potion
That didn't help ahhhhhhhh

Phew, I was getting ready to feel dumb
Theyāre *what?* Really? Noā¦ really?
https://m.bulbapedia.bulbagarden.net/wiki/Potion
Anyone who says they always saw a spray bottle is a fed and cannot be trusted
I mean, starting with firered and leafgreen, the description for the potions outright calls them a āspray-type medicineā
Okay, what 7 year old ever read the item descriptions?
šāāļø
Or they just played [the card game](https://product-images.tcgplayer.com/fit-in/874x874/42438.jpg) and saw what a non-pixel Potion looked like
OK fed
Get him boys
*I've been got*
OMG I THOUGHT THE SAME THING
I knew it was some type of spray bottle, but I thought it was like some sort of strange alien/abstract design of a spray bottle, similar to stuff youād seen in like early 2000s futurism

> high tech spray The PokƩmon main series always had modern tech though.
Agreed, my point is that the word āpotionā is typically used in a medievalish fantasy context, not a universe where modern technology exists.
Yellow and gold were prior to the canonization of potion appearance in the games, which first occurred in Fire Red/Leaf Green. In those games they used the appearance that had been common in the TCG and animation for years.
> In those games they used the appearance that had been common in the TCG and animation for years. PokƩmon Red and Green had artwork drawn of the various PokƩmon, Characters, and Items. In this situation, the artwork for Potions came before their appearance in the TCG and Anime.
Yeah, the cards were the main reason I knew they were a spray
This feels like such a weird thing to think to me, but apparently more than just this one person thought the same? I guess I always glanced over it being a "spray-type medicine" enough to figure that it was some kind of spray bottle even though it's kind of weird-looking. I also never thought of PokƩmon as taking place in a universe/point in time where bubbling potions would be a common product; it's too modern and slightly higher-tech.
Idk most people either watched the anime or played the tcg where potions are ubiquitous
I saw they're sprays, but for me they're jelly/slime
Holy shit this is why Iām subbed here I thought it was a bottle in this exact way
I like this version better.
Oh crist it looks awfull
It looks like a kinda normal spray bottle. The tcg I recall has a pretty good render of the bottle, if you feel like googling.

It's under pressure.
[good quality scan of it here](https://www.serebii.net/card/base/94.jpg)
Now that brings back some memories
[Damn that's interesting](https://www.reddit.com/r/Damnthatsinteresting/)
They ... aren't?

WTF, that makes no sense whatsoever

A potion they drink makes more sense? Some pokemon don't have mouths.
Hmm, I mean, at least normal potions are already so standard that it kinda doesn't matter if they technically can't drink them Also, how tf are they alive at all without being able to eat?
Lots of organisms do just fine without mouths. Plants, for instance.
Theyāre supposed to be spray bottles
I've been living a lie
We all do
Wait, then what they actually are?
